New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Chase Headley had three hits and Didi Gregorius had four RBI to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched eight innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts and he won his 13th game of the season.  David Robertson pitched an inning with a walk. 

Gabriel Ynoa pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his second game of the season.  Miguel Castro pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned and he walked a batter, Givens gave up a hit and a run without recording an out and Richard Bleier pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Gary Sanchez had two hits and an RBI.  Gregorius had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk, Headley had three hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday had two hits.  Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gardner hit a double, Gregorius and Bird each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Judge had a stolen base and Headley committed an error.  

Manny Machado drew a walk, Trey Mancini had a hit and Chris Davis drew a walk.  Welington Casrillo had a hit and two RBI and Pedro Alvarez had a hit.  Alvarez hit a double and Castrillo hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Davis and Schoop each committed an error and Mancini and Trumbo each had an outfield assist. 

In the first Gregorius hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Castillo hit a two-run homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Bird reached on an error and a run scored tying the game at two.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  In the seventh Sanchez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-2.  Gregorius hit a sac fly extending the lead to 6-2 and Headley hit an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game.  In the eighth Bird hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 8-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.
