New York Mets blow a big lead late and lose to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-6.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen did not.  Asdrubal Cabrera led the offense with four hits. 

deGrom pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and 12 strikeouts.  Seth Lugo gave up a run and a walk, Jerry Blevins gave up a hit and a run and AJ Ramos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and he took his first loss of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Jeremy Hellickson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Shawn Kelley pitched to one batter and struck him out, Matt Grace pitched an inning giving up two runs with one of them being earned and two walks and A.J. Cole pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Brandon Kintzler pitched a perfect inning and Ryan Madson earned his second save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit, Cabrera had four hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had two hits and two RBI, Adrian Gonzalez drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk.  Jose Lobaton drew a walk, deGrom had a hit and an RBI and Amed Rosario had an RBI.  Conforto, Frazier and Cabrera each hit a double, Nimmo hit a triple and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Lagares had two stolen bases and Rosario was caught stealing. 

Trea Turner had two hits, Howie Kendrick had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Bryce Harper had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Adams had a hit, Pedro Severino had a hit and Matt Reynolds had an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Difo had two hits and two RBI, Moises Sierra had a hit and Michael -Taylor had an RBI and drew a walk.  Harper and Kendrick each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Difo and Turner each had a stolen base.  Kendrick and Grace each committed an error and Adams had an outfield assist. 

In the first Harper hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Frazier hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the third Frazier hit an RBI double and it was 2-1 Mets.  In the sixth deGron hit a sac bunt and an error allowed a run to score to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  Rosario hit an RBI ground out and it was 4-1 Mets.  In the seventh Cabrera hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-1.  In the eighth Harper hit a two-run single, Reynolds drew an RBI walk and Difo hit a two-run single to tie the game at six.  Taylor drew an RBI walk and it was 7-6 Nationals.  In the ninth Kendrick hit a solo homerun to push the Nationals lead to 8-6 and that would be the final score.
