New York Mets are defeated by the Atlanta Braves for the brief two-game sweep


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 8-2.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The Mets offense managed three hits. 

Wheeler pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Wheeler lost his fifth game of the season.  Paul Sewald pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Jacob Rhame pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Mike Foltynewicz pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Jesse Biddle pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked two, Shane Carle pitched 2/3 of an inning winning his fourth game of the season and A.J. Minter pitched perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Sam Freeman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Luke Jackson pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Todd Frazier drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit and two RBI.  Devin Mesoraco had a hit, Dominic Smith had a hit and Bruce hit a double.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bruce had an outfield assist. 

Ozzie Albies had a hit and four RBI, Dansby Swanson had a hit and Freddie Freeman had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Nick Markakis had three hits and an RBI, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Johan Camargo had a hit and drew a walk.  Ender Inciarte had two hits and two RBI, Charlie Culberson drew a walk and Preston Tucker drew a walk.  Swanson and Markakis each hit a double and Freeman and Albies each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Inciarte had two stolen bases and Swanson committed an error. 

In the fourth Inciarte had an RBI single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Bruce hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Freeman hit a solo homerun and Inciarte hit an RBI single to make it 3-2.  Albies hit a grand-slam to make it 7-2 and in the seventh Markakis hit an RBI double to push the lead to 8-2 which was the final score. 

The Braves swept the two-game series and now the Mets will head to Arizona to start a series on Thursday night.
