New York Yankees lose a close one to the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-4.  Chad Green was the opener for the Yankees and pitched well, Stephen Tarpley struggled and the rest of the bullpen pitched fairly well.   The offense only managed five hits and no one had more then a hit. 

Green pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Tarpley pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts, Chance Adams pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.  Adam Ottavino lost his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Zack Britton pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Wilmer Font pitched two innings with three strikeouts, Jacob Waguespack pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Tim Mayza pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  Jason Adam pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk with two strikeouts and Derek Law pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu had an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Mike Ford drew a walk.  Mike Tauchman had a hit and drew three walks, he hit a double and Sanchez and Urshela each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Bo Bichette drew a walk, Cavan Biggio had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Justin Smoak drew a walk, Derek Fisher had a hit and drew a walk and Teoscar Hernandez had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Danny Jansen drew two walks, Guerrero Jr. hit a triple and Hernandez hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the fourth Sanchez hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Hernandez hit a three-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-1 lead.  In the sixth Urshela hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at three.  In the seventh LeMahieu hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Guerrero Jr.  hit a two-run triple to give the Blue Jays back the lead at 5-4.  That would be the final score of the game.  The Yankees will try and even the series with a win on Sunday afternoon before heading home to play a double header against the Orioles on Monday.
