New York Mets blow lead late then regain it and hold on to defeat the Miami Marlins

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched great.  The Mets bullpen didn’t pitch as well and Robinson Cano had three hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and 14 strikeouts.  Justin Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs, Edwin Diaz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout and Brad Brach pitched 1 1/3 innings with a walk and a strikeout and he won his first game of the season. 

Elieser Hernandez pitched four innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three being earned.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Brandon Leibrandt pitched an inning with a walk, Jesus Tinoco pitched two innings giving up two walks and Nick Vincent pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he took his second loss of the season. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and J.D. Davis had a hit.  Dom Smith had an RBI, Cano had three hits and an RBI and Pete Alonso drew a walk.  Jeff McNeil had a hit, Wilson Ramos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Cano hit a double.  Conforto and Nimmo each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Conforto had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

Jon Berti had a hit, Matt Joyce had a hit and drew a walk and Jesus Aguilar had a hit and an RBI.  Corey Dickerson had two RBI and drew a walk, Brian Anderson had an RBI and drew two walks and Lewin Diaz had a hit.  Jorge Alfaro had a hit, Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew a walk and Joyce hit a double.  The Marlins were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Villar was caught stealing and Alfaro had a passed ball. 

In the first Cano hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Conforto hit a solo homerun making it 2-0.  In the fourth Dickerson hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Nimmo hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  Smith hit an RBI groundout to make it 4-1.  In the eighth Aguilar hit an RBI single and Dickerson drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 4-3.  Anderson drew an RBI walk and the game was tied at four.  In the bottom of the eighth Ramos hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score.
