New York Yankees slow down the Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Jordan Montgomery started for

the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well also and DJ LeMahieu had

three hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.

Montgomery picked up his first win of the season, Chad Green pitched two perfect innings with four

strikeouts and Adam Ottavino pitched to one batter and got him out.  Jonathan Holder pitched an

inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Ryan Weber pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Red Sox giving up four hits and three runs with four walks.

Weber took his second loss of the season.  Phillips Valdez pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits

and no runs with three strikeouts, Austin Brice pitched an inning with a strikeout and Colten Brewer

pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

LeMahieu had three hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits. 

Aaron Hicks drew two walks, Luke Voit drew a walk and Gio Urshela had two hits and an RBI. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Judge and Urshela each hit a homerun and the

Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Stanton was caught

stealing and Montgomery committed an error.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Kevin Pillar had a hit, J.D. Martinez drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts had two hits and drew a

walk.  Michael Chavis had a hit and an RBI, Jose Peraza had a hit and Chavis hit a homerun.  The

Red Sox were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Vasquez had a passed

ball. 

In the third Chavis hit a solo homerun giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third

Judge hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Urshela hit a solo homerun

to push the lead to 3-1 and in the eighth Gardner hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 5-1

which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
