New York Mets lose rubber game to the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-2.  David Peterson started for the Mets and he did not pitch well.  Jonathan Villar led the offense with three hits and Brandon Nimmo and Luis Guillorme each had two hits. 

Peterson pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked two and struck out five and took his first loss of the season.  Jacob Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout and Joey Lucchesi pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Aaron Nola pitched four innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Connor Brogdon pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and he earned his third win of the season.  Archie Bradley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Sam Coonrod pitched a perfect inning and Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Nimmo had two hits and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew a walk and Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI.  Dom Smith had a hit, Villar had three hits and James McCann had a hit.  Guillorme had two hits and drew a walk, Smith and Villar each hit a double and Villar hit a triple.  The Mets were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Guillorme committed an error. 

Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew a walk, Rhys Hoskins had three hits and an RBI and Bryce Harper had two hits and an RBI.  J.T. Realmuto had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Alec Bohm had a hit and three RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Jean Segura drew a walk, Harper hit a double.  Hoskins hit two doubles and McCutchen hit a triple.  Hoskins, Bohm and Realmuto each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bohm, and McCutchen each had a stolen base.  Quinn had two stolen bases and Gregorius committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Hoskins hit a solo homerun, Bohm hit a three-run homerun and the Phillies had a 4-0 lead.  In the third Alonso hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Realmuto hit a three-run homerun pushing the Phillies lead to 7-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Harper hit an RBI groundout and it was 8-1.  In the seventh a wild pitch cut the lead to 8-2 but that would be the final score. 

The Mets are now 1-2 on the season and will come home for their home opener on Thursday afternoon against the Miami Marlins.
