New York Yankees bats wake up in Minnesota as they got a much needed victory

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 8-4.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen pitched well and the offense broke out with five guys having two hits and 14 hits overall. 

Montgomery pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out six.  Jonathan Loaisiga won his fifth game of the season, he pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.  Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Wandy Peralta pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Michael Pineda started for the Twins and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Jorge Alcala pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout, Alex Colome pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Luke Farrell pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Taylor Rogers pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs and he took his third loss of the season and Griffin Jax pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had two RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had two hits.  Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, Gio Urshela had a hit and Gary Sanchez had two hits and two RBI.  Roughned Odor had a hit, Clint Frazier had a hit and Miguel Andujar had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, LeMahieu and Odor each hit a double and Sanchez and Andujar each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Wade committed an error. 

Josh Donaldson had a hit, Miguel Sano had a hit and Ryan Jeffers had two hits and two RBI.  Trevor Larnach had two hits, Rob Refsnyder had two hits and an RBI and Alex Kirilloff had a hit.  Andrelton Simmons had a hit, Jeffers and Refsnyder each hit a double and the Twins were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Pineda, Astudillo, Polanco and Simmons each committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Jeffers hit a two-run double giving the Twins a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Judge drew an RBI walk and a wild pitch scored the second run to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Gardner hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Refsnyder hit an RBI double tying the game at three.  In the eighth LeMahieu reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Another fielder’s choice produced another run pushing the lead to 5-3.  In the ninth Sanchez hit a two-run homerun and Andujar hit a solo homerun extending the lead to 8-3.  In the bottom of the ninth Astudillo grounded into a force out and a run scored to make it 8-4 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
