New York Yankees lose a close and wild one late to the New York Mets

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees and he pitched well, he didn’t get any help from his defense though.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits and Giancarlo Stanton added a couple of hits and three RBI. 

Schmidt pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs but only two were earned.  He walked three and struck out two.  Andrew Heaney pitched to two batters and retired them both, Wandy Peralta pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and Chad Green took the loss which was his seventh of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Carlos Carrasco started for the Mets and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks, Miguel Castro pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.  Seth Lugo picked up his fourth win of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz picked up his 29th save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

LeMahieu had three hits and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo drew three walks and Stanton had two hits and three RBI.  Joey Gallo had an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and two RBI and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Schmidt drew a walk and Stanton hit a double.  Torres and Stanton each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres and Urshela each committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had three hits, five RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Pete Alonso drew a walk, Javier Baez had two hits and Jeff McNeil had two hits.  James McCann had an RBI and drew two walks, McNeil hit a double and Lindor hit three homeruns.  The Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Villar had a stolen base and McNeil committed an error.  McCann had a passed ball. 

In the first Stanton hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  They increased their lead to 2-0 on a Gallo sac fly.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit an RBI single and the lead was cut to 2-1.  In the bottom of the second Lindor hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth McCann hit a sac fly pushing their lead to 5-2.  In the sixth inning Torres hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Lindor hit a solo homerun making it a 6-4 game.  In the seventh Stanton hit a two-run homerun tying the game at six.  In the eighth Lindor hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Mets took two out of three from the Yankees in the series.  The Yankees will return home for a Monday afternoon makeup gave against the Minnesota Twins.
