The New York Yankees are quiet in loss to the Minnesota Twins

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 6-1.  Jhonny Brito started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen wasn’t bad and the offense didn’t do much.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Brito pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout and he took his second loss of the season.  Greg Weissert pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Albert Abreu pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning.  Jimmy Cordero pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Sonny Gray won his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and he walked two and struck out eight.  Griffin Jax pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Jovani Moran pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.  LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk and Oswaldo Cabrera had an RBI.  Jose Trevino had a hit, Judge hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe committed an error. 

Max Kepler had three hits, Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Polanco had two hits and three RBI.  Byron Buxton had an RBI, Trevor Larnach had a hit and drew two walks and Juan Miranda drew a walk.  Joey Gallo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Christian Vazquez drew a walk and Michael Taylor had two hits and drew a walk.  Polanco hit a double, Correa hit a triple and Gallo hit a homerun.  The Twins were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Taylor had a stolen base and Kepler was caught stealing.  Miranda committed an error. 

In the bottom of the third Polanco hit a two-run single giving the Twins a 2-0 lead.  Buxton hit an RBI groundout and the lead was pushed to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Gallo hit a solo homerun making it a 4-0 game.  In the bottom of the sixth Polanco hit an RBI double extending the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the eighth Correa hit an RBI triple and it was 6-0.  In the ninth Cabrera had an RBI groundout making it 6-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of three.
