New York Yankees win a ten inning thriller on a walk-off by Juan Soto

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox in ten innings on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankee and he pitched well, the bullpen was excellent.  The Yankees had seven hits but not one player had more then a hit.  Gleyber Torres hit a homerun. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out three, Tim Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up no hits, run or walks but he struck out a batter and Tommy Khanle pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Clay Holmes picked up his third win of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Cooper Criswell started for the Red Sox and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts, Cam Booser pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two and Zack Kelly pitched to one batter and retired him.  Justin Slaten pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chris Martin pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Josh Winckowski pitched giving up a hit and an unearned run because it was the winning run by the ghost runner in the tenth inning.  He took his second loss of the season. 

Torres had a hit and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Austin Wells had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Jasson Dominguez had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo drew a walk and Torres hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Chisholm Jr. was caught stealing and picked off. 

Tyler O’Neill had a hit and drew a walk, Connor Wong had a hit and drew two walks and Danny Jansen had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilyer Abreu had a hit, Wong and O’Neill each hit a double and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 0-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Abreu had a stolen base and Jansen had a pickoff. 

In the bottom of the first Torres hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fifth Jansen hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the tenth Soto hit an RBI walk-off single giving the Yankees a 2-1 victory.  This was game one of four and the two teams will play game two on Friday night.

New York Yankees suffer a heartbreaking, gut wrenching ninth inning loss to the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 7-4.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched great, the closer Clay Holmes was terrible and blew the save.  Gleyber Torres, Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Rodon pitched six innings giving up one hit and one run with two walks and 11 strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout, Jake Cousins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tim Hill pitched to two batters getting them both out and one a strikeout.  Holmes lost his fifth game of the season and blew his 11th save of the season.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two this and four runs with two walks. 

Andrew Heaney started for the Rangers and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jose Leclerc pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Andrew Chafin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Grant Anderson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Gerson Garabito pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Walter Pennington pitched 1/3 of an inning with a  walk and he earned his first win of the season. 

Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Juan Soto drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Chisholm had two hits and Volpe had two hits and two RBI.  Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI, Alex Verdugo had a hit and an RBI and DJ LeMahieu had a hit.  Torres had a double and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had a stolen base and Soto was caught stealing.  LeMahieu committed an error. 

Marcus Semien had a hit and drew a walk, Wyatt Langford had a hit and four RBI and Josh Jung had two hits and two RBI.  Adolis Garcia drew a walk, Nathaniel Lowe had an RBI and drew a walk and Ezequiel Duran had a hit.  Carson Kelly had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Smith drew a walk and Jung and Langford each hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Jung and Taveras each had a stolen base. 

In the bottom of the fourth Jung hit a solo homerun giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the seventh Trevino hit an RBI groundout tying the game at one.  Verdugo hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run single extending the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Jung hit an RBI single and Lowe hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the ninth after getting the first out on an easy groundout closer Holmes gave up a single, walk, walk and a grand-slam to lose the game 7-4.  The rubber game of the three-game series is on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees use offensive attack to double up the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Monday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 8-4.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen had some trouble but held the lead.  The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits and Juan Soto and Jazz Chizholm also contributed two hits each. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts and he picked up his sixth win of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Tim Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning with a hit and a walk. 

Jack Leiter started for the Rangers and he took his second loss of the season.  He pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a couple of strikeouts.  Chase Anderson pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts. 

Torres had three hits and two RBI, Soto had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Chisholm had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and two RBI.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Alex Verdugo had a hit and Torres, Judge and Rizzo each hit a double.  Stanton hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Chisholm had two stolen bases.  

Corey Seager had two hits, Josh Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Nathaniel Lowe had a hit.  Josh Jung had two hits, Wyatt Langford had two hits and two RBI and Josh Heim had an RBI.  Leody Taveras had a hit and drew a walk, Smith and Langford each hit a double and Langford hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the top of the third Torres hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Smith hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the top of the sixth Judge hit an RBI double, Chisholm hit an RBI single and Rizzo hit a two-run double pushing the Yankees lead to 6-1.  A wild pitch made it 7-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Langford hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the top of the eighth Stanton hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 8-3 and in the bottom of the ninth Heim hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 8-4 and that was the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees shutout in Baltimore

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 2-0.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched well, and the offense didn’t do much.  Gleyber Torres had two hits to lead the offense.

Schmidt pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Schmidt took his first loss of the season.  Dennis Santana pitched 1 1/3 innings, Caleb Ferguson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run and Clay Holmes pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one. 

Grayson Rodriguez started for the Orioles, and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  He picked up his fourth win of the season.  Cionel Perez pitched an inning giving up a hit, Yennier Cano pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Danny Coulombe pitched a perfect inning earning his first save of the season. 

Anthony Volpe drew a walk; Juan Soto had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk; Austin Wells had a hit and Torres had two hits.  Trent Grisham had a hit and drew a walk, Wells hit a double and the Yankes were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Volpe committed an error. 

Gunnar Henderson had a hit and an RBI, Adley Rutschman had a hit and Ryan O’Hearn had a hit and drew a walk.  Cedric Mullins drew a walk, Jordan Westburg had a hit and Colton Cowser drew a walk.  Henderson hit a homerun and the Orioles were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Westburg was caught stealing and Santander had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Henderson hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Santander reached on a fielding error and a run scored pushing the lead to 2-0 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees offense struggles in loss to the Anaheim Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 5-1.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense managed only two hits. 

German pitched six innings giving up four hits and five runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  German lost his sixth game of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out four. 

Patrick Sandoval started for the Angels and he pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Sandoval won his fifth game of the season.  Jacob Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Carlos Estevez pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Gleyber Torres had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Harrison Bader drew a walk and Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Torres hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Zach Neto had a hit and drew a walk, Shohei Ohtani had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mickey Moniak had three hits and three RBI.  Michael Stefanic drew a walk and Ohtani hit a triple.  Moniak hit a homerun and the Angels were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Moniak had a stolen base.  Neto committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Moniak hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-0 lead.  In the third Torres hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the third a wild pitch made it 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Ohtani hit an RBI triple pushing the lead to 4-1.  Moniak hit an RBI single and it was 5-1 Angels which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees even series with the Boston Red Sox behing strong pitching

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was good as well.  Gleyber Torres led the offense with two hits. 

German pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  German won his fourth game of the season.  Wandy Peralta pitched an inning with two walks, Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Tanner Houck started for the Red Sox and he pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Houck lost his sixth game of the season.  Brennan Bernardino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Josh Winckowski pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits. 

Torres had two hits and an RBI, Willie Calhoun had a hit and an RBI and Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit.  Billy McKinney had a hit, Kyle Higashioka had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  McKinney hit a double and Torres and Calhoun each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Higashioka committed an error. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit, Masataka Yoshida drew two walks and Justin Turner had two hits and drew a walk.  Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI, Adam Duvall had a hit and Triston Casas drew a walk.  Christian Arroyo had a hit, Reese McGuire had a hit and it was a double.  Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Turner and Duvall each had a stolen base and Arroyo committed an error. 

In the bottom of the fourth Torres hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Devers hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the bottom of the sixth Calhoun hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Higashioka hit an RBI single making it 3-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday night.

New York Yankees complete the sweep of the Cincinnati Reds

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday morning.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio and the final score was 4-1.  Luis Severino returning from injury made his season debut for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen was great and the offense did just enough with homeruns by Gleyber Torres and Harrison Bader. 

Severino pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Albert Abreu picked up his second win of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Jimmy Cordero pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning.  Clay Holmes earned his fifth save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Hunter Greene started for the Reds and he pitched seven innings giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and ten strikeouts.  Greene took his fourth loss of the season, Kevin Herget pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Torres had a hit and an RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Willie Calhoun had a hit and drew a walk.  Bader had a hit and two RBI, Jake Bauers drew a walk and Greg Allen had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had a hit and an RBI, Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk and Volpe hit a double.  Allen hit a triple and Bader and Torres each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Allen had a stolen base and Kiner-Falefa was caught stealing.  Severio had a pickoff. 

Jonathan India drew a walk, Jake Fraley had a hit and Spencer Steer had two hits and an RBI.  Stuart Fairchild had a hit and drew a walk, Kevin Newman had a hit and Luke Maile had a hit.  Steer hit a double and the Reds were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Maile had a stolen base and Fairchild had a pickoff. 

In the bottom of the first Steer hit an RBI double giving the Reds a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fifth Bader hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the sixth Torres hit a solo homerun pushing the Yankees lead to 3-1.  In the top of the seventh Volpe hit an RBI double making it a 4-1 game and that was the final score.  The Yankees secured the series sweep and will be off on Monday.  They will begin a three-game series at home with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees slug the way to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen pitched very well and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits and three walks. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Cortes won his first game of the season.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Taijuan Walker started for the Phillies and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Walker took his first loss of the season.  Yunior Marte pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout, Andrew Vasquez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks and Seranthony Dominguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk, Torres had two hits, two RBI and drew three walks.  Franchy Cordero had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Jose Trevino had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Volpe drew two walks.  Cordero hit a double, LeMahieu hit a triple and Torres and Rizzo each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Torres had a stolen base and Cordero had an outfield assist. 

Trea Turner had two hits, JT Realmuto had a hit and Alec Bohm had three hits.  Darick Hall had a hit, Edmundo Sosa had a hit and an RBI and Bryson Stott had a hit.  Brandon Marsh had two hits, Bohm and Marsh each hit a double and the Phillies were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the bottom of the first Stanton hit an RBI groundout and Torres hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Torres hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the top of the fourth Sosa hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 5-1.  Cordero hit a two-run double making it a 7-1 game.  Trevino hit an RBI single and it was 8-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of the three-game series.

New York Yankees clinch AL East with win over the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-2.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge in his quest for 61 walked four times, Gleyber Torres and Kyle Higashioka each had three hits. 

Taillon pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.  Taillon picked up his 14th win of the season.  Lou Trivino picked up his 11th save of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jose Berrios started for the Blue Jays and he lost his seventh game of the season.  He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Zach Pop pitched 2/3 of an inning givin gup a hit and he walked one, David Phelps pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Anthony Bass pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

Judge drew four walks, Anthony Rizzo had two hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and three RBI.  Oswaldo Cabrera had two hits, Higashioka had three hits and Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Higashioka and Hicks each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Judge and Hicks each had an outfield assist. 

George Springer had two hits and an RBI, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Alejandro Kirk had a hit, Raimel Tapia had a hit and Whit Merrifield had a hit.  Cavan Biggio had a hit, Bichette hit a double and Springer hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Bichette committed an error and Tapia had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Springer hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Rizzo hit an RBI single to tie the score at one.  Torres hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Yankees.  In the fifth Torres hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 3-1 for the Yankees.  In the sixth Hicks hit an RBI double and it was 4-1 Yankees.  Torres hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 5-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-2 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees with the win clinched the AL East.  It was their first division title since 2019 and 20th overall.  The Yankees will now play out the string and try to get Aaron Judge to break the AL record for homeruns which is 61.

New York Yankees roughed up the Boston Red Sox

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 12-5.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen did pitch well and the offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits. 

Cortes pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Miguel Castro won his fifth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Albert Abreu pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Lucas Luetge pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out six.  Luetge saved his first game of the season. 

Connor Seabold started for the Red Sox and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out two and took his second loss of the season.  Michael Feliz pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked two and struck out four, Austin Davis pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs and he struck out one and Jackie Bradley Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Matt Carpenter had three hits and two RBI.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had an RBI and drew a walk, Torres had three hits and two RBI and Josh Donaldson had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had two hits and drew two walks, Jose Trevino had two hits and Marwin Gonzalez had had an RBI and drew a walk.  Joey Gallo had a hit and two RBI, Hicks, Carpenter, Trevino and Torres each hit a double and Gallo hit a triple.  Donaldson and Carpenter each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-16 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Donaldson and Gonzalez each had a stolen base. 

Rob Refsnyder had four hits, J.D. Martinez had three hits and a walk and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI.  Christian Vazquez had three hits and two RBI, Alex Verdugo drew a walk and Trevor Story had a hit and an RBI.  Christian Arroyo had a hit, Bobby Dalbec had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Vazquez and Refsnyder each hit a double.  Story and Dalbec each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Vazquez committed an error. 

In the first Torres hit an RBI single and Donaldson a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Vazquez hit a two-run double cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the second Carpenter hit an RBI double pushing the Yankees lead to 5-2.  In the third Gallo hit a two-run triple extending the lead to 7-2.  Carpenter hit a solo homerun in the fourth making it 8-2 and Donaldson stole a base and scored on a throwing error making it 9-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Story hit a solo homerun and Dalbec hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 9-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Bogaerts hit an RBI groundout making it a 9-5 game.  In the seventh Gonzalez hit a sac bunt and a run scored, in the eighth Torres hit an RBI double and in the ninth IKF had an RBI walk making it 12-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games and will play game three of four on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday night.

New York Yankees fall to Tampa Bay to split four game series

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.  The game took place at

Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits. 

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Ron Marinaccio pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one and Clarke Schmidt pitched a perfect inning. 

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his fifth game of the season, Jason Adam pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Colin Poche pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and J.P. Feyereisen pitched a perfect inning.  Feyereisen saved his first game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and an RBI.  Miguel Andujar had two hits, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and Torres and Judge each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres had a stolen base. 

Wander Franco drew a walk, Ji Man-Choi had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Taylor Walls had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Harold Ramirez had an RBI and drew a walk, Mike Zunino had an RBI and Choi and Walls each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Diaz committed an error. 

In the second Torres hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Choi hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Walls hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Ramirez had an RBI walk pushing the lead to 3-1 and Zunino was hit by a pitch and a run scored making it 4-1.  In the eighth Judge hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four game series and the Yankees will have an off day on Monday and head home to begin a three-game series with the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees walk-off the Texas Rangers in Game One of a doubleheader

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon in Game one of a doubleheader.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was great.  Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits including a walk-off homerun. 

Cole pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and Clay Holmes won his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Dane Dunning started for the Rangers and he pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Matt Bush pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dennis Santana pitched to one batter and got him out and John King pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk.  DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Torres had two hits and an RBI and one was a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Marcus Semien had two hits, Adolis Garcia had a hit and Mitch Garver had two hits.  Kole Calhoun had a hit and an RBI, Garver hit two doubles and Calhoun hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ibanez committed two errors and Miller committed an error. 

In the sixth Stanton hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Calhoun hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the ninth Torres hit a solo homerun to walk-off the game and give the Yankees the 2-1 victory.

New York Yankees blank the Kansas City Royals

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.  The game took place at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 3-0.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well also.  Gleyber Torres, Aaron Hicks and Joey Gallo each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Cole won his second game of the season.  Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning and picked up his fifth save of the season. 

Carlos Hernandez started for the Royals and he pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with two being earned.  He walked five and struck out three and took his first loss of the season.  Joey Payamps pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and Ronald Bolanos pitched three innings giving up two hits and three walks with a strikeout. 

Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew two walks, Anthony Rizzo drew two walks and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit.  Torres had two hits and an RBI, Hicks had two hits and drew two walks and Gallo had two hits.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had an RBI and drew a walk, Jose Trevino drew a walk and Donaldson hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Rizzo and Kiner-Falefa were caught stealing and Kiner-Falefa committed an error. 

Whit Merrifield had a hit and drew two walks, Andrew Benintendi drew a walk and Carlos Santana had a hit.  Hunter Dozier had two hits, Bobby Witt Jr. had a hit and Edward Olivares had two hits.  Dozier hit a double and the Royals were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Olivares had a stolen base and Lopez committed an error. 

In the second Kiner-Falefa hit into a double play and a run scored giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Torres hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 2-0 and in the fourth Kiner-Falefa hit a sac fly making it a 3-0 game which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon with the Yankees looking for the sweep and their ninth straight victory.

New York Yankees walk-off against the Cleveland Guardians

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well and Isiah Kiner-Falefa led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Cortes pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning, Chad Green pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Miguel Castro pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his first victory of the season. 

Cal Quantrill started for the Guardians and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Enyel De Los Santos pitched to two batters and struck them both out, Bryan Shaw pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Nick Sandlin pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Emmanuel Clase pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and he walked one and struck out one and lost his second game of the season and also got his first blown save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Joey Gallo had a hit and drew a walk and Kiner-Falefa had two hits and two RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Kiner-Falefa hit a double.  Donaldson hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Myles Straw had a hit, Josh Naylor had two hits and two RBI and Austin Hedges had a hit and two RBI.  Naylor and Hedges each hit a homerun and the Guardians left one man on base.  Straw had an outfield assist. 

In the fifth Naylor hit a two-run homerun giving the Guardians a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 2-1.  Higashioka hit into a double play but it was a sac fly tying the game at two.  In the bottom of the seventh Donaldson hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Hedges hit a two-run homerun giving the Guardians back the lead at 4-3.  In the bottom of the ninth Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI double to tie the score with two outs and Torres hit an RBI single to win the game.  It was a pinch hit and a walk-off for Torres. 

The Yankees will look for the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees slug the Boston Red Sox

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 8-3.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen pitched well and Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  He won his 16th game of the season.  Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Wandy Peralta pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red Sox and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with two walks and he took his ninth loss of the season.  Hirokazu Sawamura pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a walk and he struck out two, Matt Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Martin Perez pitched three innings giving up four hits and a run with three strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo had two hits and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Stanton had three hits and four RBI, Joey Gallo had a hit and Torres had three hits and two RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Brett Gardner had two hits and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI.  Judge, Gardner and Stanton each hit a double.  Stanton and Torres each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Torres was caught stealing. 

Kike Hernandez had two hits and drew two walks, Kyle Schwarber had a hit and Rafael Devers had a hit and three RBI.  J.D. Martinez had a hit and drew two walks, Hunter Renfroe had a hit and Christian Vasquez drew a walk.  Jose Iglesias had a hit, Martinez hit a double and Devers hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Judge hit an RBI double, Stanton hit an RBI ground out and Torres had an RBI single giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the third Stanton hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.  Higashioka hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 7-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Devers hit a three-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Torres hit a solo homerun making it a 8-3 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees are defeated by the Boston Red Sox

 

The New York Yankees were defeated on Friday night by the Boston Red Sox.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Michael King started for the Yankees and he wasn’t great.  DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to lead the offense. 

King pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked none and struck out five and took his third loss of the season.  Lucas Luetge pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Nestor Cortes pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out four. 

Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red Sox and he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He won his seventh game of the season and he struck out seven without allowing a walk.  Hirokazu Sawamura pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out five and Matt Barnes pitched an inning with three strikeouts.  He earned his 13th save of the season. 

LeMahieu had two hits, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Judge had two hits and an RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Torres had two hits and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit, J.D. Martinez had a hit and Xander Bogaerts had two hits.  Rafael Devers had a hit and three RBI, Hunter Renfroe had a hit and Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and two RBI.  Christian Arroyo had a hit, Martinez hit a double and Gonzalez hit two doubles.  Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gonzalez committed two errors. 

In the first Devers hit a three-run homerun to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth Gonzalez hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Judge hit a solo homerun and an error brought home another run cutting the lead to 5-2.  That would be the final score.

New York Yankees hold on to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did their job and Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with only one being earned.  He walked two and struck out six.  Montgomery won his third game of the season.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chad Green pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman earned his 12th save of the season pitching an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  McClanahan lost his first game of the season.  Ryan Thompson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Colin McHugh pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with five strikeouts and Jeffrey Springs pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Urshela had two hits and two RBI.  Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Roughned Odor had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Clint Frazier had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Sanchez, Torres and Urshela each hit a double.  Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Torres was picked off and Odor and Montgomery each committed an error.  Montgomery had a pick off. 

Randy Arozarena drew a walk, Yandy Diaz had an RBI, Ji-Man Choi had a hit and an RBI.  Austin Meadows had a hit, Mike Brosseau had two hits and Manuel Margot had an RBI and drew a walk.  Francisco Mejia had a hit, Taylor Walls had a hit and drew two walks and Mike Zunino drew a walk.  Brosseau hti a double and the Rays were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Wendle and Walls each had a stolen base.  Arozarena was caught stealing.  Springs had a pickoff. 

In the first Urshela hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Margot reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Frazier hit a two-run single to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Diaz hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Choi hit an RBI single making it a 4-3 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday afternoon.

New York Yankees walk-off to complete three-game sweep

 The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the 

Yankees and he pitched well.  Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier each had three hits to lead the offense.  

Taillon pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Wandy

Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Chad Green pitched 1 2/3 

innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up a hit

and he struck out one.  Aroldis Chapman blew his first save of the season but won his fourth game of the 

season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  

Dallas Keuchel started for the White Sox and he pitched four innings giving up six hits and three runs

with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Evan Marshal pitched a perfect

inning with a strikeout, Jose Ruiz pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and

Codi Heuer pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Aaron Bummer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three

hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Bummer lost his third game of the season and Liam 

Hendriks walked the only batter he faced.  

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Luke Voit drew a walk and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Aaron Judge

had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Gio Urshela had a hit and Torres had three hits and two RBI.  

Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Frazier had three hits and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring

position and left nine men on base.  Frazier had two stolen bases and Torres was caught stealing.  

Tim Anderson had a hit, Jake Lamb had a hit and Yoan Moncada had a hit and drew two walks.  

Jose Abreu had a hit and two RBI, Andrew Vaughn had a hit and an RBI and Yasmani Grandal had a hit,

an RBI and drew two walks.  Abreu, Grandal and Vaughn each hit a homerun and the White Sox were 

0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Keuchel and Anderson each committed

an error.  

In the bottom of the first Torres hit a two-run single giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Urshela

grounded into a double play and a run scored pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Abreu hit a two-run

homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Gardner reached on a fielder's choice and a 

run scored extending the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Grandal hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 

4-3 and in the ninth Vaughn hit a pinch hit solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the

ninth Judge drew a bases loaded walk to walk-off the game and give the Yankees a 5-4 victory.  

The Yankees swept the three-game series and will be off on Monday before beginning a three-game 

series with the Toronto Blue Jays at home on Tuesday night.

 The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee

Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-0.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he

pitched well.  The bullpen pitched well and Gleyber Torres led the offense with three hits and four RBI.  

Cole pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Cole 

earned his sixth win of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.

Luis Cessa pitched an inning with a strikeout.  

Dylan Cease pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  

Cease lost his first game of the season.  Matt Foster pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with

a walk and a strikeout, Jose Ruiz pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts

and Garrett Crochet pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.

3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Odor committed an error.
