New York Yankees edge the Oakland Athletics

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees, and he pitched ok, the bullpen pitched well.  The offense only managed five hits and four of them with the four runs were all in the first inning. 

Stroman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Stroman picked up his second win of the season.  Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Caleb Ferguson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dennis Santana pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Clay Holmes picked up his ninth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Paul Blackburn started for the Athletics, and he pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with five strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  T.J. McFarland pitched a perfect inning and Austin Adams pitched an inning with a walk. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit; Juan Soto had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI; Anthony Rizzo had a hit, and two RBI and Austin Wells drew a walk.  Judge and Stanton each hit doubles and Rizzo hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Esteury Ruiz had a hit, Brent Rooker drew a walk and Seth Brown had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Nevin had two hits, Lawrence Butler had a hit, and an RBI and Shea Langeliers had a hit and an RBI.  Nick Allen had a hit, JJ Bleday drew a walk and Brown hit a double, Langeliers and Butler each hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the top of the first Brown hit an RBI double giving the Athletics a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Stanton hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Rizzo hit a two-run homerun and the lead was pushed to 4-1.  In the second Langeliers hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2 and in the fourth Butler hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score.  The series is even at one game each with two more to play.
