New York Yankees bats are silent in loss to the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.  Luis Gil started for the Yankees, and he was wild but gutted through five innings.  The offense was only able to produce four hits. 

Gil pitched five innings giving up three hits and three runs with seven walks and six strikeouts, he took his first loss of the season.  Ron Marinaccio pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Dennis Santana pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Chris Bassitt started for the Blue Jays, and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Bassitt won his second game of the season.  Tim Mayza pitched to two batters and retired them both, Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Yimi Garcia picked up his second save of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit; Juan Soto drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had a hit; Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Trent Grisham drew a walk.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Volpe had a stolen base and Grisham was caught stealing.  Gil had a pickoff. 

George Springer drew two walks, Vald Guerrero Jr. drew two walks and Bo Bichette had a hit.  Justin Turner drew a walk, Cavan Biggio had a hit and Alejandro Kirk had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Daulton Varsho drew a walk, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had an RBI and drew a walk and Biggio and Kirk each hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bichette and Springer each had a stolen base and Bichette was picked off. 

In the top of the second Cabrera hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Kiner-Falefa drew an RBI walk and a wild pitch gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Kirk hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
