New York Yankees win their sixth straight with victory over the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Caleb Smith started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch that bad but didn’t last very long.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good and Gary Sanchez, Matt Holliday and Ronald Torreyes led the offense with a couple of hits each. 

Smith pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two this and a run with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a strikeout and he picked up his fourth win of the season. 

Blake Snell pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sergio Romo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Steve Cishek pitched an inning striking out the side and Tommy Hunter pitched a perfect inning.  Brad Boxberger pitched giving up a hit and a run with a walk and took his third loss of the season and Dan Jennings pitched giving to one batter and gave up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits and an RBI.  Holliday had two hits, Didi Gregorius had an RBI and Garrett Cooper had a hit and drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Torreyes had two hits and Sanchez and Torreyes each hit a double and Sanchez and Headley each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Sanchez and Gregorius each committed an error. 

Peter Bourjos had a hit and an RBI, Logan Morrison had a hit and Steven Souza Jr. had two hits and an RBI.  Evan Longoria drew a walk, Lucas Duda had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Corey Dickerson had a hit.  Mallex Smith had a hit, Bourjos and Souza Jr. each hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Souza Jr. had a stolen base and Beckham was caught stealing. 

In the first Bourjos hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Gregorius hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the third Duda hit a sac fly to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Sanchez hit a solo homerun that tied the game at two.  In the fifth Souza Jr. hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 3-2 lead.  In the sixth Headley hit a two-run homerun and the Yankees took a 4-3 lead. In the eighth Duda hit a solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the ninth Gardner hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees a 5-4 victory. 

The two teams will play game four of four on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees have taken the first three and will look to sweep the Rays before beginning a three game set with the Detroit Tigers at home on Monday.

New York Yankees finish long road trip with a victory in Seattle


The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 6-4.  Caleb Smith started for the Yankees in his major league starting debut and didn’t pitch very well.  The Yankees bullpen was great and Brett Gardner, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Smith pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 perfect inning with three strikeouts and earned his first win of the season, Delllin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and earned his 11th save of the season.   

Yovani Gallardo pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  James Pazos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks, Tony Zych pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Emilio Pagan pitched three innings giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts. 

Gardner had two hits and two RBI, C. Frazier had a hit and two RBI and Aaron Judge drew two walks.  Matt Holliday drew a walk, Gregorius had two hits and two RBI and Chase Headley had two hits and drew two walks.  T. Frazier had a hit and drew a walk, Tyler Wade had a hit and drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Wade, C. Frazier each hit a double and Headley hit two doubles.  Gardner hti a homerun and Gregorius hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Sanchez had a passed ball and Chapman had a pickoff. 

Danny Valencia had a hit, Robinson Cano had a hit and Nelson Cruz had a hit and drew a walk.  Kyle Seager had two hits, Ben Gamel had a hit and two RBI and Guillermo Heredia had a hit and two RBI.  Seager hit two doubles and Heredia hit a double.  The Mariners were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Motter was caught stealing and Ruiz had a passed ball.  Haniger had an outfield assist. 

In the first Gardner led off the game with a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Gregorius hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Gamel hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 3-2 and Heredia hit a two-run double to give Seattle a 4-3 lead.  In the sixth Gardner hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  Frazier hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead and that would be the final score. 
The Yankees took two out of three and finished their road trip 6-5 and will have Monday off.  They will begin a brief two game series with the Cincinnatti Reds at home on Tuesday night in the Bronx.
