The New York Yankees drop rubber game to the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 9-5.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good other than Bryan Mitchell who had a rough outing.  Aaron Judge and Starlin Castro each had two hits. 

Garcia pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out four and lost his 10th game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Mitchell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and Ben Heller pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marcus Stroman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  He won his 13th game of the season.  Matt Dermody pitched to one batter and gave up a hit, Ryan Tepera pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Tom Koehler pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Castro had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Todd Frazier drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit and Romine, Ellsbury and Bird each hit a double.  Judge hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  T. Frazier committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Teoscar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI and Justin Smoak had a hit and drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Kendrys Morales had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Russell Martin had two hits and three RBI, Darwin Barney had an RBI and Ryan Goins had two hits and drew a walk.  Pillar and Smoak each hit a double and Martin hit two doubles.  Hernandez hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Pillar had a stolen base. 

In the first Hernandez hit a solo homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Barney hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the third Martin hit a three-run double to push the lead to 5-0 Blue Jays.  In the fourth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Donaldson hti an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game.  Bautista hit an RBI single, Morales hit a two-run single and the lead was pushed to 9-1.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the sixth and Bird hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 9-3.  In the seventh Judge hit a two-run homerun and the lead was cut to 9-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees clinched a wild card spot but lost two out of three in the series.  They will now return home to play a make-up game with the Kansas City Royals on Monday afternoon and then a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays after that and finish with three game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York Yankees edge the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The Yankees bullpen made it stand up and Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the offense. 

Garcia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out nine.  David Robertson won his ninth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and Aroldis Chapman saved his 19th game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. 

Ervin Santana lost his eighth game of the season.  He pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched an inning giving up a hit, Taylor Rogers pitched 2/3 of an inning with a  strikeout and Tyler Duffey pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Gardner had three hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ellsbury and Gardner each had two stolen bases.  Judge committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Grossman hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Frazier hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

Yankees win third straight over the New York Mets


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Aaron Judge, Chase Headley and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Garcia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out three.  Tommy Khanle won his second game of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both, Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and David Robertson saved his 14th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Robert Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out two.  Paul Sewald lost his fifth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks, Chasen Bradford pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he had a strikeout and Josh Smoker pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Judge had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Garett Cooper had an RBI, Torreyes had two hits and Headley, Torreyes and Gregorius each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Juan Lagares had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI and Amed Rosario drew a walk.  Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Gsellman had a hit and drew a walk and Lagares and Conforto each hit a double.  Rivera hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rivera had a passed ball. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Cooper hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Rivera hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Headley hit a sac fly giving the Yankees back the lead at 3-2.  d’Arnaud hit a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three.  In the seventh Gregorius hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  The final score was 5-3 as the Yankees have taken the first three games of the four game Subway Series.  The final game will be on Thursday night.

The New York Yankees rally to defeat the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Aaron Hicks led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Garcia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Adam Warren won his third game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and striking out two and Aroldis Chapman earned his 15th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a run and three walks. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Matt Barnes pitched an inning with a walk, Addison Reed lost his third game of the season pitching no innings and giving up two hits and four runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Joe Kelly pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Fernando Abad pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Hicks had two hits and two RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew two walks.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Todd Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Hicks and Torreyes each hit a double.  Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hicks had an outfield assist. 

Eduardo Nunez had a hit and drew a walk, Mookie Betts had a hit and drew two walks and Andrew Benintendi had two hits and two RBI.  Hanley Ramirez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Chris Young drew a walk and Rafael Devers had a hit.  Christian Vazquez had a hit, Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk and Ramirez hit a double and a homerun.  Benintendi also hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first inning Ramirez hit a two-run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Benintendi hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the eighth Hicks hit a two-run homerun, Gregorius hit an RBI single, T. Frazier hit an RBI single and Torreyes hit a sac fly to make it 5-3 Yankees.  In the ninth Benintendi hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 5-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees lose to the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 7-2.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well in his Yankees debut.  The Yankees had five batters with two hits. 

Garcia lost his eighth game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and six runs with five being earned.  He walked four and struck out four.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out five and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Trevor Bauer pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out seven and won his 10th game of the season.  Joe Smith pitched to two batters and struck them both out, Tyler Olson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew two walks and Didi Gregorius had two hits.  Chase Headley had two hits, Todd Frazier had two hits and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had two hits.  Headley hit a double and T. Frazier hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Judge committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Brandon Guyer had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Brantley had two hits and an RBI.  Jose Ramirez had a hit, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and two RBI and Carlos Santana drew a walk.  Austin Jackson had a hit and an RBI, Roberto Perez drew a walk and Giovanny Urshela had two hits.  The Indians were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Guyer had a stolen base. 

In the second Jackson hit an RBI double to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  A passed ball pushed the lead to 2-0.  In the third Brantley hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 and Encarnacion hit a sac fly to make it 4-0.  In the fifth T. Frazier hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Brantley hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 5-1.  A wild pitch made it 6-1 and in the eighth Encarnacion hti an RBI double to push the lead to 7-1.  Gardner hit an RBI single in the ninth to cut the lead to 7-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday night.  The Indians have taken the first two of the series.
