Yankees at Angels-ALCS Game 3
The Yankees will be trying to put a strangle hold on this series this afternoon. The game is at 4:15PM on Fox. Andy Pettitte goes up against Jered Weaver who looks exactly like his brother Jeff Weaver who was a former Yankee. Here are the notes and lineups via Chad Jennings and Sam Borden of the Journal News.
The weather won't be a factor out in sunny southern california where the temps will be around the 70's.
The last Yankees team to win their first 5 postseason games were the 1999 Yankees. The 1970 Orioles are the only AL team to win its first six.
Andy Pettitte is tied for John Smoltz for most victories alltime in the postseason. If he wins today's game he will be all alone on top of the list.
The 21 players the Yankees used in Game 2 set a new ALCS record in a extra inning game. The 38 combined players used by both teams also set a ALCS record.
Yankees relievers have allowed 3 earned runs in 17 2/3 innings pitched this postseason. They are 2-0 with 2 saves and 20 strikeouts.
The Angels have made 4 errors in the first 2 games of the series and are hitting 154 as a team. You would expect that to change but maybe the Yankees pitching is that good and the pressure is on the Angels.
Vlad Guerrero simply isn't the same player he used to be, he stranded 8 runners in Game 2 and has 2 rbi's this postseason.
Derek Jeter hit his 19th postseason homerun in Game 2 moving him past Reggie Jackson and Mickey Mantle into sole possession of third place on the alltime list. I would say of course though he has had many more games to do it in though.
