The New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 8-3 on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  Matt Bowman started and pitched well, the bullpen was good except Jeurys Familia who had a rough outing.  Matt den Dekker and Matt Reynolds had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Bowman pitched five innings giving up  two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Buddy Carlyle pitched to one batter and struck him out and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Mejia picked up his first win of the spring, Dario Alvarez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, den Dekker had two hits and two RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Dominic Smith drew a walk.  John Mayberry Jr. had a hit, Cory Vaughn drew a walk and Eric Campbell had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Recker had an RBI and Johnny Monell had a hit.  Cesar Puello had a hit, Bowman had a hit and Reynolds had two hits and three RBI.  Campbell, Reynolds and Monell each hit a double, Reynolds, Lagares and den Dekker each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

In the sixth Campbell hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  The Nationals came right back in the bottom of the sixth.  Michael Taylor hit an RBI double to tie the game and Clint Robinson hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead.  Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Reynolds hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 and Lagares hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the eighth Recker hit a sacrifice fly, Reynolds hit an RBI double and den Dekker hit a two run homerun to make it 7-3 Mets.  In the ninth Reynolds hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida on Friday afternoon.

Matt Harvey makes his spring debut and looks great as the Mets win



The New York Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 5-4 on Friday afternoon.  The game took place in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the big story was Matt Harvey pitching two perfect innings.  The offense was led by Wilmer Flores with two hits, Matt den Dekker with two RBI and Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI. 

Harvey pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  He was also throwing in the upper 90s.  Noah Syndergaard pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Scott Rice pitched a perfect inning, Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning. 

Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk, Granderson had a hit and an RBI and den Dekker had a hit and two RBI.  Muno had a hit and drew a walk, Michael Cuddyer drew a walk and Carillo had a hit.  John Mayberry Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Flores had two hits and Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI.  den Dekker hit a double, Reynolds hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Castellanos was picked off, Cuddyer, Familia and Flores each committed an error and d'Arnaud had a passed ball.  Familia had a pickoff. 

Granderson hit an RBI single in the third to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Jose Iglesias hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Bryan Holaday hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Rajai Davis hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Anthony Recker hit into a double play but a run scored and it was 3-2 Tigers.  den Dekker hit a two run double to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the top of the eighth the Tigers tied the game on a Aaron Westlake RBI single.  In the bottom of the ninth Reynolds hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 5-4 win.   The Mets will take on the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon from Jupiter, Florida.

The New York Mets take the rubber game 4-3 over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 4-3.  Jacob deGrom started and pitched well and the bullpen was ok.  Juan Lagares had two hits and Matt den Dekker had three to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Dario Alvarez pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Carlos Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run.  Jennry Mejia saved his 23rd game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk and striking out one. 

Tom Koehler pitched seven innings and gave up five hits and two runs.  He walked four and struck out ten.  Mike Dunn lost his sixth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out one,  Bryan Morris pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Chris Hatcher pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Lagares had two hits, den Dekker had three hits and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, two RBI and drew three walks and Dilson Herrera had an RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, den Dekker hit a double , Tejada and d'Arnaud also hit a double.  Nieuwenhuis hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Christian Yelich had two hits and an RBI, Donovan Solano had a hit and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI.  Casey McGehee had a hit and an RBI, Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit and drew a walk and Luke Hechavarria had a hit and drew a walk.  Koehler had a hit, Saltalamacchia and Hechavarria each hit a double and Stanton hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the third McGehee hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Nieuwenhuis hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Yelich hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at two.  In the eighth d'Arnaud hit an RBI double and Herrera grounded into a force out scoring another run and making it a 4-2 Mets lead.  Stanton hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-3 and that would be the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will have an off day on Thursday.  They will take on the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night in Cincinnati.
