New York Knicks week in Review

This past week the Knicks played a home and home series with the Bulls and lost both games. Their record falls to 19-34 on the season and they are 7 1/2 games out of the playoffs. They only have 29 games left to play, they have lost 10 of their last 14 and the season seems to be slipping away. The first game against the Bulls on Tuesday saw the Bulls crush the Knicks by the score of 118-85. Derrick Rose proved to be too much to handle as he scored a game high 29 points. The Bulls were leading by 14 at the half and pulled away in the third quarter by taking a commanding 95-68 lead. David Lee led the way for the Knicks with 24 points and 12 rebounds. The Knicks didn't fare much better on Wednesday night at the Garden. They blew a 15 point lead to lose once again to the Bulls. They lost 115-109, this extended their losing streak to 5 games. Rose led the bulls again with 27 points and All Harrington led the Knicks with 27 points. The Knicks were without Nate Robinson who was traded to the Celtics for Eddie House.

NBA and NHL

I am looking for someone who has knowledge about the NHL and NBA. I also would like someone that is really into it, of course preferably the local teams. The local teams for me are the Nets, Knicks, Rangers,Devils and I guess you could throw in the Islanders. If you are interested in talking about these teams or have knowledge in general about the NBA and NHL I would like to hear from you. I would like for someone to answer me in the comments section under this post and then we can go from there. I look forward to getting some responses and talk to you soon.

Thurman Munson Awards Dinner

The annual Thurman Munson awards ceremony will be held February 2 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York. Joba Chamberlain will be one of the recipients of the award for philanthropic work in the community and excellence in competition. It will be the 30th anniversary of the event. This is good to see with Joba after the rough offseason he had last year with the DUI and all the stuff going on with his mother. The other recipients will be Cubs manager Lou Piniella, former Yankee and Met Daryl Strawberry, Knicks point guard Chris Duhon and Yonkers raceway two-time champion harness driver Jason Bartlett. Diana Munson who is Thurmans widow has been involved in the benefit since it's inception and has raised nearly 10 million dollars to assist children and adults who have developmental and intellectual disabilities. Len Berman the longtime NY sportscaster, formerly of NBC will serve as master of ceremonies for the 16th consecutive year. Lou Piniella will receive the "Legend Award" for his long and meritous service to baseball. Lou played 18 seasons in the big leagues, 11 of them with the Yankees and will be going into his 22nd season as a manager.

Basketball talk, are you serious?

Yes I am serious this is my least knowledgeable subject in sports but I have to talk briefly about the New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks. New Jersey has a basketball team? They do but barely as they are 0-14, you can't even be that bad if you tried. I have to give them credit for trying as they are badly outmanned and they aren't that good obviously. They are in complete rebuilding mode and have some good young pieces so it will get better but no wins seriously. They are trying to set the record and be relative by being irrelative. The record is 0-17 and they can do that with 3 more games on the West Coast against the LA Lakers, Portland Trailblazers and the Sacremento Kings. Nets coach Lawrence Frank is on the hot seat as you might expect. The New York Knicks aren't much better as they are 3-10 but the thing about them is it really doesn't matter until July of 2010. You might ask why is that well it is because that is when the free agency signing period begins. Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh headline the group of many. The Knicks have had their eyes on this for a couple of years as they have gotten under the cap so they could sign at least one marquee player and maybe a couple overall players. The question I have is why would someone like Lebron want to come to the Knicks other then playing in New York but with a salary cap the money isn't much different and in this world now it really doesn't matter so much for a star like him where he plays. It will be interesting to see if CC Sabathia could really recruit him like he says or if ultimately Lebron will end up in Miami with Wade or could he go to Brooklyn with the Nets if they move there as it looks like they now will.

New York Knicks Talk

I am not a huge Basketball fan and don't claim to know much about it, that is why i stick to mostly Baseball talk but I had to write something about the Knicks. The Knicks President Donnie Walsh has done a great job in getting under the Cap and also now getting two players who needed a change of scenery and who could help the Knicks get into the playoffs. Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox and their contracts wont effect what the Knicks want to do in 2010 with signing at least 2 free agents out of that great class with Lebron James and Dwayne Wade being the 2 biggest names. The Knicks don't have a great record but hey if they make the playoffs they will take it, they are a fun team to watch again and in most every game that they do play. The energy has come back to the garden and for New York Knick fans they are getting excited about the future.
