New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals to end losing streak


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. and the final score was 7-5.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well.  Travis d’Arnaud led the offense with two hits and five RBI.  Three other players also had two hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and 12 strikeouts.  deGrom won his first game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Addison Reed pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and he struck out one.  Josh Edgin earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and retiring both batters that he faced. 

Max Scherzer lost his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Oliver Perez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Jacob Turner pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two batters and Enny Romero pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Neil Walker drew a walk, Jose Reyes had two hits and drew a walk and T.J. Rivera had two hits and drew a walk.  d’Arnaud had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk, deGrom had a hit and Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI.  Bruce, T.J. Rivera and Reyes each hit a double, d’Arnaud hit two homeruns and the Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cabrera had two stolen bases, T.J. Rivera and Reyes each had a stolen base. 

Adam Eaton had two hits, Trea Turner had two hits and Bryce Harper had a hit.  Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and three RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits and Anthony Rendon had a hit and drew a walk.  Matt Wieters had two hits and two RBI, Adam Lind had a hit and Zimmerman hit two homeruns and Wieters hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Zimmerman committed two errors. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets lose a close one in Washington



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well.  The Mets offense only managed six hits and no one had more than one hit. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Rafael Montero pitched two innings giving up one hit and one walk with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jordan Zimmerman picked up his first win of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and one run with four strikeouts.  Craig Stammen pitched an inning giving up a walk, Blake Treinen pitched an inning giving up a hit and Drew Storen pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts to pick up his first save of the season.   

David Wright had a hit, Lucas Duda had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and the Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Nieuwenhuis had a stolen base. 

Michael Taylor had a hit, Yunel Escobar had a hit and drew a walk and Bryce Harper had two hits and drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and two RBI, Wilson Ramos had a hit and Dan Uggla had a hit.  Tyler Moore drew a walk, Uggla, Ramos and Taylor each hit a double and Zimmerman hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Zimmerman hit a two run homerun to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead.  In the second d'Arnaud hit an RBI single to cut the Nats lead to 2-1.  The final score of the game was 2-1.  The teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Mets are swept in opening series of year

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The final

score was 8- 2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Zach Wheeler started for

the Mets and pitched pretty well.  The bullpen was bad once again and Curtis Granderson led the

offense with a couple of hits. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Wheeler lost his first game of the season, Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs but only one was earned.  He walked one, Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeouts and Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Tanner Roark picked up his first win for the Nationals.  He pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Russ Detwiler pitched two innings with a walk and a strikeout and Rafael Soriano pitched an inning giving up giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and Granderson had two hits and an RBI.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada and Ike Davis each had a hit and Josh Satin drew a walk.  Granderson hit two doubles and Lagares hit a double.  The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Murphy committed two errors. 

Denard Span had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk for the Nationals.  Jayson Werth had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Adam LaRoche had three RBI and Ryan Zimmerman had four hits and two RBI.  Daniel Espinoza had two hits, he had two doubles and Span hit a double.  Zimmerman hit a homerun and the Nationals were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Granderson hit an RBI double and Lagares hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Zimmerman hit a solo homerun to cut the Mets lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Span hit an RBI single to tie the game at two and Werth hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh LaRoche had a two run single, Zimmerman had an RBI single and Desmond grounded into a force out scoring a run.  The Nationals had a 7-2 lead and would add another run in the eighth on a walk.  The final score was 8-2.  The Mets got swept in the first series of the season.  They are 0-3 and will play a three game series at home against the Cincinnati Reds.

The New York Mets win a close one over the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night. The final score was 3-2 and the game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was good and the bullpen was good. Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits to pace the offense.

Gee pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Gee won his 10th game of the season. Scott Rice retired the only batter that he faced and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout for his sixth save of the season.

Eric Young Jr. drew a walk, Murphy had two hits and Andrew Brown had a hit and an RBI. Ike Davis had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and d’Arnaud had two hits. d’Arnaud and Murphy each hit a double and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Young had a stolen base.

Jordan Zimmerman lost his eighth game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts. Fernando Abad gave up a walk in 1/3 of an inning and Ryan Mattheus pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Denard Span had a hit, Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and Wilson Ramos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Anthony Rendon had a hit, Steve Lombardozzi had a hit and an RBI and Ramos and Lombardozzi each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. In the third Ramos hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Davis hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Brown hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 3-1 Mets. The Nationals scored a run in the eighth on a solo homerun by Lombardozzi. The final score was 3-2 Mets.

The Mets record improved to 61-72 and the Nationals record fell to 68-66. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.

The New York Mets waste another brilliant effort by Matt Harvey

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets. The game took place on Friday night and at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great. Josh Satin had three hits and two RBI and David Wright had a couple of hits.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with 11 strikeouts. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Josh Edgin gave up a hit and a run and Brandon Lyon gave up a hit and a run with a walk. Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Bobby Parnell took his fourth loss of the season. Parnell pitched an inning giving up two hits and a two runs.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits. Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI, Satin had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Wright hit a double and Satin hit two doubles. Byrd and Lagares hit a double and the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Ross Detwiler pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out four. Ross Ohlendorf pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Tyler Clippard won his sixth game of the season pitching a scoreless inning and giving up a walk and Drew Storen saved his second game of the season with a perfect inning.

Denard Span had two hits, Rendon drew a walk and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and three RBI. Jayson Wrth had a hit, Ian Desmond had two hits and two RBI and Roger Bernadina had a hit. Kurt Suzuki had an RBI, Span, Zimmerman, Werth and Desmond each hit a double. Span hit a triple and Desmond hit a homerun. The Nationals were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Desmond and Ohlendorf each committed an error.

In the fourth Byrd reached on an error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Desmond hit a homerun in the fifth to tie the game at one. Byrd hit an RBI double and Satin an RBI single in the fifth giving the Mets a 3-1 lead. Satin hit an RBI double in the seventh to extend the Mets lead to 4-1. In the eighth Zimmerman hit a three run double to tie the game at four. In the ninth Desmond hit an RBI double and Suzuki hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Nationals and that would be the final score.

The Mets record fell to 32-44 and the Nationals record improved to 40-39. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The Mets defeat the Nationals behind a strong Jon Niese

The Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday night by the score of 2-0. The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Jon Niese started for the Mets and was great, the bullpen was able to hold the lead. Ike Davis led the Mets offense. Edwin Jackson started for the Nationals and was good but not as good as Niese. Their bullpen was also good and their offense was led by Danny Espinosa.
Niese pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs, he didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven. Niese won his 10th game of the season. Jon Rauch faced two batters and retired them both and Frank Francisco pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. He picked up his 20th save. Jackson lost his eighth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and 11 strikeouts. Ryan Mattheus pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Mike Gonzalez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.
Mike Baxter had a hit, David Wright drew a walk and Davis had two hits and two RBI. Baxter hit a triple and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Espinosa had two hits, Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and Adam LaRoche had a hit. Flores had a hit, LaRoche hit a double and the Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Zimmerman had a stolen base and Desmond committed an error.
The Mets scored the only runs of the game in the seventh on a two run homerun by Davis. The Mets had a runner on third and one out in the first and didn’t score. The Nationals had first and second one out in the first and didn’t score. There weren’t really any other good scoring chances as this was a pitchers duel.
The Mets record improved to 57-63 and the Nationals record fell to 74-46. The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon. The Nationals won on Friday night and the Mets evened the series on Saturday night.
