Luis Severino shines in debut but the New York Yankees lose to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and made his highly anticipated major league debut.  He didn't dissappoint but Steven Wright the Red Sox pitcher completely shut down the Yankees offense. 

Severino pitched five innings giving up two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out seven and took his first loss of the season and career.  Adam Warren pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked two with a strikeout. 

Wright won his fifth game of the season pitching  eight innings and giving up four hits and a run with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Koji Uehara picked up his 24th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and John Ryan Murphy had two hits.  Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Headley committed an error. 

David Ortiz had a hit and an RBI, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Mike Napoli drew a walk.  Alejandro De Aza had a hit and an RBI, Rusney Castillo drew a walk and De Aza hit a double and Sandoval hit two doubles.  Ortiz hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Swihart had a passed ball. 

In the second De Aza hit an RBI double giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ortiz hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 2-0.  Beltran hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games and play the third and final game of the series on Thursday night.

The New York Mets shutout the Miami Marlins behind Dickey and his ML leading 17th win

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 3-0 on Friday night. The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and was brilliant. The Mets didn’t even have to use their bullpen and Ike Davis was their offense. Nathan Eovaldi started for the Marlins and pitched well, their bullpen was good. The Marlins offense was led by Justin Ruggiano. 
Dickey pitched a complete game shutout. He gave up five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Dickey is now 17-4 on the season. Eovaldi lost his 10th game of the season pitching seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. Wade LeBlanc pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Steve Cishek pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit. Davis had a hit and three RBI, Mike Baxter drew a walk and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and they left two men on base. Murphy committed an error and Dickey had a pickoff.

Bryan Peterson drew a walk, Ruggiano had two hits and Jose Reyes drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Greg Dobbs had a hit and Eovaldi had a hit. Austin Kearns drew a walk and the Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Reyes was picked off.

In the fourth Davis hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Davis hit a two run homerun in the seventh inning to make it 3-0 Mets and that would be the final score. Dickey was in complete control all night.

The Mets have now won five out of their last six games. The Mets record improved to 62-70 and the Marlins record fell to 59-73. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.

Yankees Recap

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox tonight in Tampa 7-1. AJ Burnett got the start and was good pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 4k. MO pitched a 1-2-3 inning on 16 pitches. Jon Albaladejo faced one batter and got him out on a groundball. Damaso Marte pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit, 1 walk and 1k, 0 runs and Edwar Ramirez closed it out with 1 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit and 2k. Austin Jackson hit a grandslam in the 8th inning when the Yankees scored 6 times. Tim Wakefield had the knuckler really knuckling and they couldn't get much going off of him. Johnny Damon was 1-3 with a rbi, Angel Berroa was 1-1 with a rbi. Derek Jeter was 1-2 with a walk, Hideki Matsui had a rbi. Robinson Cano was 1-3. Brett Gardner had a triple and run scored with his speed as he beat a throw to home and Melky Cabrera had a walk in his only at bat. Ramiro Pena who is in the mix for the utility role was 1-1. The Yankees have an off day tomorrow and will be back at it on Thursday when they face the Phillies with Joba Chamberlain on the mound. Austin Jackson was reassigned to minor league camp after the game along with Eduardo Nunez, Juan Miranda was optioned down. The Yankees are down to 39 players in camp now. He ended up hitting 333 with 3 hr, 10 rbi a double and triple. He will be the AAA cf and if he does well we could see him in September, I will be watching him closely all season.
