Yanks sweep away another opponent
The New York Yankees won their 6th in a row today and completed their second consecutive sweep. A.J. Burnett got the win going 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Phil Hughes came on in the 8th and did his job giving up a single but erasing that on a double play. Brian Bruney came on in the ninth with a 6-2 lead but after striking out 2 guys he gave up solo homeruns to Adam Jones and Nick Markakis and Mo came in to get the last out and the save. Joe Girardi said after the game that it was the best stuff Brian Bruney has had in a while but he still gave up 2 runs and needs to get better. Mo said he isn't worried and that Bruney is fine.
The offense came out firing with 4 runs in the first inning on a rbi single by A-rod, a rbi infield single by Robinson Cano and a 2 run single by Nick Swisher. Jorge Posada had a solo homerun later and the Yankees added another run in the 8th. A-rod had 2 hits and Posada had 2 hits and 2 rbi's. Robinson Cano also had 2 hits, Damon, Jeter, Tex, Swisher and Gardner all had a hit each. The Yankees are now 1 1/2 up on the Red Sox. If the Sox win tonight it will be a game and if they lose it will extend to 2 games. The Yankees open up a 4 game series with Oakland starting tomorrow night in a makeup game from April with CC Sabathia on the mound.

Detroit at Yankees(2nd Half begins)
The New York Yankees take on the Detroit Tigers at 7:05 tonight from the Stadium. The game is on the YES network. A.J. Burnett will try to continue his dominant ways and get the Yankees off on the right foot in the second half of the season. Here are the notes and lineup from Peter Abraham.
The Yankees won two of three earlier in the year in Detroit.
Lucas French gets the start for the tigers, he is a 23 year old lefty who has appeared in four games with two starts. He has allowed 12 hits in 14 innings with 8 strikeouts.
The Yankees are 5-15 against teams who currently lead their divisions.
The Yankees are 16-5 against the AL Central this year.
Robinson Cano is 18 of 50 this month.
Johnny Damon is 5 of 30 this month with 5 runs scored.
The Yankees are 12-11 in one run games, losing 7 of their last 10. They need to get better in these games like they were early in the year.
Derek Jeter is 29 of his last 76 which is a 382 batting average. He raised his batting average from 301 to 321.
Hideki Matsui is 12 of his last 31 with 4 homeruns and 12 rbi's and 6 runs scored.
Phil Hughes is rolling as a reliever going 13 games, 18 2/3 innings, 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 5 walks and 19 strikeouts.
Mo has allowed 1 run in his last 13 2/3 innings with 15 strikeouts. He has walked 9 batters in his last 111 2/3 innings, that is just insane. He is the best ever.
Robinson Cano has attempted 34 stolen bases in his career and been successful 16 times, he just shouldn't run unless it is a hit and run.
A-rod is 22 of his last 29 with 8 homeruns, 22 rbi's and 17 runs scored.
Yankees lineup:
Jeter(SS)
Damon(LF)
