Yanks win 5th in row
The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles tonight by the score of 9-6. A.J. Burnett got the start and had nothing as he went 5 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs. He hasn't won a game in over a month and it may be cause for concern now. He didn't pitch bad his last time out but tonight he just had nothing going. I would think now is the time for A.J. to get it together so he can head into the postseason with confidence, I would think he would be the game 2 starter but maybe he will be the game 3 starter the way it is going. The Yankees offense bailed him out with 5 homruns, 2 of them off of the bat of Jorge Posada who is 1 homerun shy of putting the Yankees at 7 players with 20 or more homeruns. Robinson Cano had 2 hits as he continues to demolish Baltimore pitching this season. He is batting I believe it is 481 against them now this season. The only guy in the lineup without a hit was Mark Teixeira. A-rod had a rbi single, Nick Swisher had a homerun and so did Eric Hinske in fact they went back to back. Melky Cabrera had 2 hits as he has been showing signs of life lately which is a good sign, Brett Gardner should be back somewhat soon but we will see what he can do when he comes back. The Yankees will be going for the sweep tomorrow night with their ace CC Sabathia on the mound. The Yankees are now 36 games over 500, they haven't been this far over 500 since they finished the 2004 season 40 games over. The Yankees have 30 games left this season, could they win 16 more to get to 100, it is looking pretty good but the only thing that is going to matter now is winning in the postseason and getting that 27th championship.

Pitching matchups for Yanks/Jays series
Tomorrow- Roy Halladay vs Andy Pettitte
Wednesday- Mark Rzepczynski vs Sergio Mitre
This isn't going to be easy with Doc Halladay pitching tomorrow but he doesn't get a lot of run support so maybe the Yankees can find a way to win a 2-1 type game. I don't know anything about the Jays pitcher for Wednesday but his stats are pretty good and Sergio Mitre has been awful so they have their work cut out for them, it would be nice to win both and have a winning road trip but 1 out of 2 would be fine before facing the Sox.

Yankees at Big Point of season
The New York Yankees have a off day today before starting a 3 game series in Atlanta tomorrow night and then the weekend subway series at Citi Field. The New York Yankees are at a point where they need to get this turned around or risk letting this season get away from them. They stand 4 games out of first place behind the Boston Red Sox who they are already 0-8 against, good thing they have 10 more against them and 7 at home. They now are tied for the wildcard with the Anaheim Angels and two games ahead of the Blue Jays in the loss column and 3 ahead of the Rays. A couple of weeks ago the Yankees were 1 game up in the division and way ahead in the wildcard and since they have been dreadful going 4-8, should be 3-9 if Luis Castillo didn't drop a popup. The Yankees pitching has been pretty good, bullpen also but they haven't been able to hit at all fo the most part against inferior teams. The Yankees had no business going 2-4 against the Nationals and Marlins, at worst they should of gone 4-2. Joe Girardi is the manager and will soon start to take the blame, I don't blame him but he better get hold of this team right now and get them back to playing good clean baseball. I would like to see a change in hitting coach and maybe even pitching coach but that doesn't seem like it will happen. I wonder how much longer this can go on without hearing anything from Brian Cashman, Hank or Hal Steinbrenner, it would be wise of the Yankees to not let anyone hear from them as they start winning starting tomorrow and get themselves back into the playoff picture ahead of the pack.

Win streak ends at 9
The World Champion Philadelphia Phillies came in to Yankee Stadium and snapped the Yankees 9 game winning streak tonight by the score of 7-3. A.J. Burnett was not very good giving up 5 runs in 6 innings. He hasn't won a game since April 14 and that is a big concern to me. He needs to get it together soon and start winning games. The thing about him is he can be like CC Sabathia in that once he gets it going he may just roll out a bunch in a row but right now he is not getting it done. Chien-Ming Wang came in relief and pitched 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with a walk and a couple of strikeouts. His velocity was better and he did a little better but it still wasn't great. It is something to build on though, he won't pitch until Tuesday at the earliest although it is expected that Joba will pitch that game. Phil Hughes pitches Monday and I am guessing now that if he pitches well he will keep starting and Wang will stay in the pen.
Offensively A-rod had a couple of hits one of them a solo homerun, Tex had a couple of more hits including a monster shot that almost reached the third deck in right field. Derek Jeter had a solo homerun. The Yankees were shut down for the most part by Brett Myers who had good offspeed stuff tonight. The Yankees will try and start a new winning streak tomorrow with Andy Pettitte on the mound against J.A. Happ.

Orioles at Yankees
The Yankees are going for their seventh win in a row and CC Sabathia is looking for his first win at home. They trail the Red Sox by one game and of course Toronto is still in first, I am one to not believe in them though. The Sox and Jays begin a three game series in Fenway tonight.
Big Tex is batting 458 with 11 rbi's during the six game winning streak.
The team hasn't made a move for Bruney yet, it should come shortly.
They haven't decided what to do with Wang and Hughes yet although Wang appeared to be confident after his bullpen session today. Girardi said there will be no decision with Wang today and they will cross that bridge when they come to it speaking of the rotation and what happens to Hughes.
It does appear a reliever will get sent out as the Yankees still feel they need Angel Berroa and Ramiro Pena, why I don't really know but I guess they feel its protection for A-rod which I don't agree with but I am not making the decisions.
The lineup for today is as follows
Jeter(SS)
Damon(LF)
Tex(1B)
A-rod(3B)
Matsui(DH)
Swisher(RF)
Cano(2B)
Cabrera(CF)
Cervelli(C)

Yankees sweep away the Twins
Andy Pettitte started and didn't have much but gutted his way through 6 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 12 hits. Jose Veras somehow after a walk to load the bases got the final out of the seventh on a pop fly and Coke got a big out in the eighth by striking out Morneau and then got the save since MO was resting.
The offense was led by Mark Teixeira who hit 2 homeruns, one righty and one lefty for the second time this year. A-rod had a homerun going back to back with Tex in the 1st and also had a walk. A-rod has had a homerun in 3 straight games now. Derek Jeter had 2 hits and so did Francisco Cervelli who also had a sac bunt. Cervelli has really impressed me, he has been great defensively but has also hit which is a suprise. The Yankees really showed off the leather tonight as well with a couple great plays by Cano, Tex as always was good and Pena made a really nice play at third. The Yankees will open up a three game series with the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow and try to stretch the winning streak to seven games.

Yanks at Orioles
The Yankees will play the second of three in Baltimore tonight with Phil Hughes pitching against Adam Eaton. The Yankees will try and make it two in a row, thats what we call a winning streak. Here are the notes and lineup from the Lohud Yankees blog.
The Yankees are 21st in baseball hitting with RISP-anyone still think Kevin Long is any good?? Only Cleveland and Oakland are worse in the AL. The Yankees are batting 154 with RISP over their last 5 games. The Yankees are 4-10 against the AL East.
Johnny Damon is swinging a hot bat going 9 for his last 17 with six extra base hits and 8 rbi's. Hideki Matsui continues to look strong carrying a 16 game hitting streak as a starter into tonights game and Melky Cabrera since becoming the starting CF is hitting 346 with a 433 OBP.
Nick Swisher is struggling striking out in 8 of his last 17 AB'S and Big Tex continues his struggles going 3-17 in his last 17 games with 4 extra base hits. Robbie Cano has cooled off significantly going 3 for his last 26 but he is 2 for his last 2.
Nick Markakis is 4-8 with two doubles against Hughes.
Maybe Big Tex will break out tonight as he is 5-8 with a homerun against Eaton. A-Rod is 2-3 with a homer and Swish is 2-4 with 2 homruns off of him.
The Yankees record bears out that they need A-rod, since he joined them in 2004 they are 33-38 without him.
A-rod only needs 9 more homeruns to tie Reggie Jackson on the all time list, I wonder if he will keep quiet when A-rod goes past him or be upset as he has been vocal against all the guys with homeruns in this era being tainted.
Brett Tomko was called up and Dave Robertson optioned back down to AAA-Scranton. I wish they would of kept Robertson and Melancon and gotten rid of Veras and Ramirez but at least if they continue to struggle I am sure we will see the young guys again.
Yanks lineup:
Jeter(SS)
Damon(LF)
Tex(1B)
A-rod(3B)
Matsui(DH)
Swisher(RF)
Cano(2B)
Cabrera(CF)
Cervelli(C)
The game is on YES at 7:05 enjoy the game everyone.

April is over time for Yanks to roll
The Yankees finished the month of April 12-10, a winning record which usually doesn't happen. This is their best April since 2006. Mark Teixeira is happy the month of April is over as he struggled mightily I am sure dropping his career 256 April average. Robinson Cano is a guy who isn't happy as he had his first good April of his career, hopefully he can take it into May. CC Sabathia had his best start last time out and he is looking forward to the warmer weather and getting on a roll. The Yankees survived the month and A-rod should be back within the next week or so. The Yankees also lost Brian Bruney to injury, Wang to ineffectiveness and Xavier Nady and didn't come out too bad. They got off to a good start on their 8 game homestand and at the end of this homestand if it goes well they can be in good shape. Here is looking for a strong May and the Yankees begin to make their move. They currently sit in third place 2 games back of the Red Sox and 1 game back of the Blue Jays. Andy Pettitte will try to get May off to a good start tonight.
