Yanks defeat Indians and the Midges

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5-2 tonight. Joba Chamberlain got the start and looked great, he threw 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts. He was consistantly hitting 96-98 on the gun all the way through the game. This is the best Joba has looked as a starter and the potential he has, if he is throwing hard nad throwing strikes watch out and this is why he should and will be a starter. If he is this type of pitcher a ace he will pitch the eighth anyway. The Yankees finished off the roadtrip at 5-2 and also set a MLB record with their 18th straight errorless game. Derek Jeter had 2 hits and 2 walks to lead the offense, Nick Swisher had 2 doubles. A-rod had a 2 run single and a walk. Big Tex had a hit to extend his hitting streak to 14 games and also Jeter extended his to 15. The offense wasn't great but good enough and now they will return home to the homerun haven. This should be an interesting series with the high powered Rangers, A.J. Burnett will get the start tomorrow night.

Yanks at Indians

The New York Yankees will try and win the series in Cleveland tonight with Joba Chamberlain on the mound. The Yankees will be going for the record tonight, if they don't committ an error they will have set the record with 18 straight errorless games. Derek Jeter has a 14 game hitting streak and Mark Teixeira a 13 game. Derek Jeter needs 2 runs scored for 1,500 in his career. Yanks lose

The New York Yankees lost to the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5-4 today. I was not able to watch the game as I wasn't home. I did catch the postgame and read the notes though, Brett Gardner may have cost them the game by missing a sign and not running in the ninth inning with 1st and 3rd one out and then Posada grounded into a double play. Phil Coke started the ninth by walking the number 9 hitter which is inexcusable. Brett Gardner also misplayed a ball into a run earlier in the game. Phil Hughes wasn't great, I guess you can't win them all. The good thing about the game was Tex continues his hot hitting with a 2 run homer and a 2 run double and Chien-Ming Wang was outstanding pitching 3 shutout innings. He said he hasn't felt this good since he got hurt last year and that if given the chance he can start a game and get to 80 pitches then 100 in the start after that. Joe Girardi was noncomittal but it looks like he may make a move on that fairly soon. Joba Chamberlain will try to give the Yankees the series win and wrap up the roadtrip at 5-2. The other thing about this game is the Yankees tied a record with their 17th consecutive game without an error.

Yanks at Indians(Lets kick The American Idles Butt)

The Yankees will go for three in a row this afternoon against the Indians. Phil "Franchise" Hughes will be on the mound looking for his third straight win against old friend Carl "American Idle" Pavano. The Yankees will also be looking to tie the major league record with 17 games in a row without an error. Here are the game notes and lineup as always via Peter Abraham and his Lohud Yankees Blog. The Yankees are 14-3 in their last 17 and have outscored their opponents 106-60 in those games. Jeter has a 13 game hitting streak and Teixeira a 12 game hitting streak. Big Tex has never had one longer then 12 games. Phil Hughes has faced the Indians once in the regular season. He allowed one run over six innings on Aug 1, 2007 at Progressive Field. The Yankees are 4-2 in the 6 games Phil has started since being called up on April 28. He has allowed 3 earned runs in his last 13 innings pitched. Jose Veras has allowed the first batter he faced to reach safely half the time, Wow that is bad, they got to do something with this guy. Shelly Duncan is hitting 304 with 18 homeruns and 47 rbi's in 39 games. Those are some big numbers, I would think he is more valuable then Angel Berroa, Berroa never plays and they could use another outfielder with Melky out and Damon banged up. Matsui is only a DH and Swisher has been struggling. Ramiro Pena is the backup and I think we are past the point of worrying about A-rod.
