White Sox at Yanks pitching matchups

The New York Yankees will begin a 3 game series with the Chicago White Sox tonight at the stadium. The weather is looking terrible right now and doesn't look like it is going to be much better so who knows with that. It is supposed to rain tomorrow with Tropical Storm Danny passing by. Here are the pitching matchups for the series. Tonight- CC Sabathia vs Mark Buehrle Saturday- Sergio Mitre vs TBA Sunday- Joba Chamberlain vs Freddy Garcia Saturday a lot of people thought it would be Jake Peavy but he is pitching in AAA instead so it will not be him. Tonight is a good matchup but the Yankees seem to hit Buehrle historically and beat him. Joba will be on his normal rest so lets see if he can get it going.

Yanks lose series

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers today by the score of 7-2. A.J. Burnett got the start and was pretty dominating striking out 12 in 6 innings, he only gave up 2 hits but one was a 3 run homer. The real story though was the Yankees not being able to score with runners in scoring position. The Yankees were 2 -12 today with RISP and left 12 runners stranded on base today. Phil Coke came on in relief of Burnett and gave up a 3 run homerun after a single and a bunt that he screwed up. Phil Coke went to field it when clearly A-rod was right there to get it and throw the guy out at first and then bam the 3 run homerun. I think that at times Joe Girardi likes Phil Coke too much and he really should only be used sparingly as a 1 or 2 batter guy against lefties. He gives up way too many homeruns. Dave Robertson gave up a solo homerun in 1 1/3 innings of work, he also struck out two. Alfredo Aceves pitched a scoreless inning with 1 strikeout. The offense was led by Mark Teixeira who had both rbi's. Johnny Damon had 2 hits and 2 walks. A-rod and Melky Cabrera had a hit and a walk a piece. The Yankees just couldn't manage to get the big hit when they had the pitcher on the ropes and although the final score looks worse then it was they really could of had a big lead early on and that would of changed the game. The Yankees start a 3 game series with the White Sox tomorrow night and will try to get back on the winning track.

Rangers at Yankees a Matinee Rubber Game

The New York Yankees take on the Texas Rangers today at 1:05 on the YES network. This is the last game of the 3 game series with the Rangers winning the first on on Tuesday night and the Yankees winning last night. A.J. Burnett is on the mound looking to get back on track. Here are the pregame notes and lineup via Peter Abraham. If the Yankees win today that would give them wins in 11 of the last 12 series they have played. A.J. Burnett is 0-3 with a 6.32 era in his last 5 starts. He has allowed 36 hits and 14 walks in his last 31 1/3 innings. Melky Cabrera is batting 209 with a 258 on base percentage since Brett Gardner went on the DL. There have been 191 homeruns in 61 games at Yankee Stadium this season, last year there were 160 in 81 games. Phil Hughes has only pitched 8 innings this month. This doesn't make sense to me as you want to get his innings up so he can be a starter without too much restriction next year. Hideki Matsui is 14 of his last 40 with 18 rbi's over 9 games. The Yankees are 51-15 when they score first. The Yankees are a major league best 42-19 at home. Robinson Cano is 8 of his last 17 with 4 rbi's and 4 xbh. He is 16 of 36 for his career in stolen base attempts. I think someone needs to tell him just stay where you are. Nick Swisher is 12 of 46 with 8 xbh and 7 rbi's. He hasn't drawn a walk in 49 plate appearances which is a long long time for him. Michael Young has a 13 game hitting streak which is the longest current streak in the majors. He is batting 436 with 14 rbi's and 6 xbh during the streak. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Damon(LF) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Matsui(DH) Swisher(RF) Cano(2B) Cabrera(CF) Molina(C)

Andy is Dandy as Yanks top Rangers

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers tonight by the score of 9-2. Andy Pettitte went 7 strong innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Andy Pettitte with the win which was his 189th as a Yankee tied Lefty Gomez for 3rd on the alltime Yankees wins list. Brian Bruney pitched a scoreless 8th giving up a couple of hits and Phil Coke pitched a perfect ninth. A.J. Burnett will be on the hill tomorrow trying to get back in a grooved after a awful outing his last time out in Boston. Jorge Posada will not catch him tomorrow but that is because he is banged up not because of the percieved problems between the two. The offense got started early with a 3 run homer for Jorge Posada. Jerry Hairston had a solo homerun and then the Yankees really broke it open in the 7th with 5 runs, Derek Jeter had a 2 run single. Nick Swisher had a rbi double and Mark Teixeira had a 2 run single. Hideki Matsui had a couple of hits to continue his hot hitting and A-rod had a single and walk. Melky Cabrera was the only Yankee to not have a hit. The offense has really been rolling lately and it is good to see. The Yankees will try and win the series tomorrow afternoon.

Rangers at Yankees

The New York Yankees will try to even this three game series tonight at 7:10PM on the Yes network and ESPN 2. Andy Pettitte will be taking the mound. The Yankees start tonight with a 6 game lead on the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Here are the pregame notes and lineup via Peter Abrahams Lohud Yankees Blog. Robinson Cano hit his 20th homerun last night making it 6 Yankees which matches the 1961 and 2004 teams, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada have a chance to make it 7 or 8 Yankees. Derek Jeter snapped a streak of 113 plate appearances without a walk when he walked last night. Jeter has multiple hit games in 11 of his last 13 games. Hideki Matsui has 17 rbi's over his last 8 games. 8 of his last 13 hits have been for extra bases. 7 of them are homers. Andy Pettitte will be the 3rd starter in the playoffs. He is 2-1 with 2.82 era since the all star break. Over 44 2/3 innings he has allowed only 38 hits and struck out 47. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Swisher(RF) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Matsui(DH) Posada(C) Cano(2B) Hairston(LF) Cabrera(CF)
