The New York Mets experience history as Johan pitched a no-hitter

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 8-0 on Friday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. The game also included drama and history as Santana became the first Met in history to pitch a no hitter. Santana started and was brilliant, he was a little wild though and threw a lot of pitches. Murphy led the Mets offense. Adam Wainwright started for the Mets and didn’t pitch so well. 
Santana pitched nine innings giving up no hits and no runs. He walked five batters and struck out eight. Wainwright pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Santana earned his third win of the season and Wainwright suffered his sixth loss of the season.

Andres Torres drew a walk, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had two hits and drew a walk and Wright had a hit, RBI and drew two walks. Lucas Duda had a hit and four RBI, Murphy had two hits and three RBI and Ike Davis drew a walk. Omar Quintanilla had two hits. Wright had a double, Murphy had a triple and Duda had a homerun. The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Rafael Furcal, Matt Holliday, David Freese, Yadier Molina and Matt Adams each drew a walk.

In the bottom of the fourth the Mets took the lead. Duda hit a sacrifice fly and Murphy hit an RBI triple to make it 2-0 Mets. Duda hit a three run homerun in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Wright had a bases loaed walk and Murphy had a two run single to make it 7-0. That would be the final score, the two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon.

The Mets have been around for 52 years and never pitched a no hitter before. Tom Seaver in 1975 pitched 8 2/3 innings but it was broken up. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees win in Detroit

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 9-4 on Friday night. The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched well. The bullpen made it a little interesting at the end and Rafael Soriano had to come on in and close the game out. Curtis Granderson led the offense. Casey Crosby was making his major league debut for the Tigers. He struggled and the bullpen gave up some late runs to put the game out of reach. Quintin Berry and Delmon Young led the Tigers offense. 
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Sabathia picked up his seventh win of the season. Cody Eppley didn’t record an out and he gave up a hit and a run, Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up one hit and Cory Wade faced two batters and retired them both. Clay Rapada pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two and Soriano earned his seventh save of the season retiring both batters that he faced. Crosby in his first game suffered his first loss. He pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and six runs with four walks and three strikeouts. The bullpen pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs. They walked two and struck out seven. Luis Marte pitched really well. He pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out three.

Derek Jeter had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Granderson had two hits and four RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI, Robinson Cano drew a walk and Nick Swisher drew two walks. Andruw Jones had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Nix had a hit and drew two walks and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. Nix and Jones each had a double, Granderson and Rodriguez each had a homerun. The Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Nix and Granderson each had a stolen base.

Berry had three hits for the Tigers. Danny Worth had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Prince Fielder had a hit, RBI and drew a walk. Young had three hits, Gerald Laird had a hit and drew a walk and Jhonny Peralta had an RBI. Alex Avila drew a walk, Ramon Santiago had a hit and an RBI. Berry, Young and Cabrera each had a double. Berry had a triple and Santiago had a homerun. The Tigers were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Santos had a passed ball.

Worth had an RBI single in the first to make it 1-0 Tigers. In the second inning Jeter walked to drive in a run and Granderson hit a grand slam to make it 5-1 Yankees. In the third Santiago hit a solo homerun and Fielder hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 Yankees. Stewart hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-4 Yankees. Jones hit an RBI double in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game. Peralta hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 7-5 and in the ninth Rodriguez hit a two run homerun to make it 9-5. The final score would be 9-5 Yankees.

The Yankees improved their record to 28-23 and the Tigers record dropped to 24-28. The Yankees and Tigers are playing a three game series in Detroit. The Yankees will have off on Monday and start a homestand on Tuesday night.

The Mets blow a lead late and lose the rubber game to the Phillies

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 10-6 tonight. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well. The Mets bullpen did not pitch well. They used five relievers and they all gave up at least one run. Cliff Lee started for the Phillies and pitched ok and the bullpen pitched well other then one pitcher. Lucas Duda led the Mets offense and Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre led the Phillies offense. 
Gee pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Bobby Parnell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Jon Rauch took the loss pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. Rauch is now 3-4 on the season, Tim Byrdak pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk and Ramon Ramirez didn’t record an out and gave up three hits and three runs. Chris Schwinden pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs. Lee pitched six innings for the Phillies giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Antonio Bastardo got his second win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Scott Hairston had two hits, Vinny Rottino drew a walk and Duda had three hits and three RBI. Rob Johnson had a hit, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit. Wright, Torres and Hairston each had a double. Duda hit two homeruns. The Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Murphy committed an error.

Rollins had three hits and three RBI, Pierre had three hits and Hunter Pence had a hit. Ty Wigginton had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Shane Victorino had a hit and three RBI and Fontenot had a hit. Brian Schneider had a hit, Carlos Ruiz had a hit and two RBI and John Mayberry had a hit. Schneider, Pierre and Wigginton each had a double. Wigginton, Ruiz and Rollins each hit a homerun. The Phillies were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Rollins had a stolen base.

Wright hit an RBI double in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Wigginton hit a solo homerun in the second to tie the game at one. Duda hit a two run homerun in the sixth to make it 3-1 Mets. Ruiz hit a two run homerun in the seventh to tie the game at three. In the eighth Victorino hit a sacrifice fly to give the Phillies a 4-3 lead. In the ninth there was a lot of action. Rollins hit a three run homerun, Wigginton hit an RBI double and Victorino hit a two run single to make it 10-3 Phillies. Duda hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth and Torres hit an RBI double. Murphy hit an RBI single and it was 10-6 Phillies, that is how the game ended.

The Mets record dropped to 28-23 and the Phillies improved their record to 27-25. The Phillies took two out of three in the series. The Mets will begin a four game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at home on Friday night.

The New York Yankees lose their second straight game in Anaheim

The New York Yankees lost to the Anaheim Angels by the score of 5-1. The game was in Anaheim, California. The Yankees have had their problems over the years in Anaheim although they were 3-3 there last year. The Yankees had won five in a row coming into this series but have now lost two in a row, the Angels have won eight games in a row. Andy Pettitte made the start for the Yankees and pitched ok. Alex Rodriguez had three hits to lead the Yankees offense. Dan Haren started for the Angels and pitched well. The Angels offense was spread out nicely with everyone but one hitter having at least a hit. 
Pettitte pitched seven innings giving up five runs on nine hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three and suffered his second loss of the season. Cody Eppley pitched an inning giving up two hits with a strikeout. Haren earned his third win of the season pitching seven innings giving up eight hits and a run with seven strikeouts. Scott Downs pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up two walks and a hit batter with two strikeouts.

Derek Jeter had two hits and drew a walk, Rodriguez had three hits and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Raul Ibanez had a hit, Nick Swisher had a hit and an RBI and Russell Martin had a hit and drew a walk. Ibanez had a double and the Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and they left 12 men on base.

Mike Trout had a hit and an RBI, Maizur Izturis had a hit and Albert Pujols had two hits and two RBI. Mark Trumbo had two hits and an RBI, Howie Kendrick had a hit and an RBI and Torii Hunter had a hit. Erick Aybar had two hits and Peter Bourjos had a hit. Trout had a triple, Pujols and Trumbo each hit a homerun. The Angels were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Trumbo had a stolen base and Izturis committed an error.

In the third Trout hit an RBI triple and Pujols hit a two run homerun to make it 3-0 Angels. Swisher hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-1. In the sixth Trumbo hit a solo homerun making it 4-1 and Kendrick made it 5-1 with a RBI single in the eighth inning. The Yankees loaded the bases in the ninth but couldn’t score and the game ended 5-1.

The Yankees have now lost two in a row and their record is 26-23. The Angels have won eight in a row and improved their record to 26-25. The two teams will complete their three game series on Wednesday night. The Angels have won the series and will now try and sweep it, the Yankees will look to salvage the final game and head off to Detroit.

The Mets even up their series with the Phillies

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 6-3 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. Jeremy Hefner started and pitched well. Omar Quintanella had three hits to lead the Mets offense. Joe Blanton started for the Phillies and didn’t pitch well but their bullpen did. Jimmy Rollins and Placido Polanco led the Phillies offensive attack. 
Hefner won his first major league game by pitching six innings giving up six hits and three runs. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out four. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning, Jon Rauch gave up a hit in one inning and Frank Francisco earned his 14th save pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. Blanton lost his fifth game of the season pitching five innings giving up nine hits and six runs. He walked two and struck out four. They used three relievers who pitched three innings giving up one hit and no runs. The bullpen struck out four batters and walked none.

Hefner and Hairston each had a homerun. The Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Baxter committed an error.

Rollins had two hits, Juan Pierre had a hit and Hunter Pence had a hit. Ty Wigginton had a hit, Polanco had two hits and Brian Schneider had a hit and an RBI. Rollins and Pence each had a double and Schneider hit a homerun. The Phillies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Rollins scored on a wild pitch by Hefner in the first inning giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead. Wright hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first and Davis hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Mets. Schneider hit a solo homerun to tie the game in the second inning. Baxter hit an RBI double in the second to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. In the fourth Hefner hit a solo homerun which was his first major league hit. The Mets had a 4-2 lead. In the sixth Pence hit an RBI double to make it a 4-3 game. Hairston hit a two run homerun in the sixth which made it a 6-3 game. The final score was 6-3.

The Mets and Phillies have split the first two games of this series. The two teams will meet in the rubber game on Wednesday night. The Mets improved their record to 28-22 and the Phillies record dropped to 26-25.
