The Mets continue their second half swoon in loss to Nationals

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night by the score of 5-2. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started and pitched ok but not great. The Mets offense only managed three hits. Gio Gonzalez started for the Nationals and pitched really well. Ryan Zimmerman led the Nationals offense. 
Dickey pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked one and struck out seven and took his second loss of the season. Manny Acosta pitched an inning giving up a hit, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out three and Ramon Ramirez pitched an inning walking one and striking out one. Gonzalez won his 13th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and a run which wasn’t earned. He walked two and struck out four. Mattheus gave up a hit and a run without recording an out, Sean Burnett pitched a perfect inning and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, he saved his 17th game of the season.

Andres Torres drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit and Jason Bay drew a walk. Ronny Cedeno had a hit and an RBI. Valdespin hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base. Hairston had a stolen base and Bay committed an error.

Byrce Harper drew a walk, Zimmerman had three hits and Michael Morse had a hit. Adam LaRoche had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Danny Espinosa had two hits and an RBI and Roger Bernadina had two hits. Jesus Flores had a hit and an RBI, Zimmerman and Espinosa each hit a double. LaRoche hit a homerun. The Nationals were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Harper was caught stealing and Espinosa committed an error. Harper had an outfield assist.

Cedeno had an RBI single in the second inning to make it 1-0 Mets. In the fourth Espinosa tied the game with an RBI single. LaRoche hit a two run homerun in the sixth to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead. Flores hit a two run single to make it a 5-1 game. The Mets scored the final run of the game in the eighth inning. Valdespin hit a solo homerun.

The Mets record dropped to 47-50 and the Nationals record improved to 57-39. The two teams will play the final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon. The Mets will try and avoid the sweep, they have one win since the All Star Break as they are falling completely out of contention.

The Yankees end their losing streak in Seattle

The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Monday night by the score of 4-1. The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. The win snapped a four game losing streak by the Yankees. Hiroki Kuroda started and was sensational. The Yankees bullpen closed it out and Mark Teixeira led the Yankees offense. Kevin Millwood started for the Mariners and pitched ok, John Jaso led their offensive attack. 
Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked one and struck out nine. Kuroda won his 10th game of the season. Dave Robertson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Rafael Soriano pitched an inning striking out one, it was his 25th save of the season. Millwood suffered his eighth loss of the season. He pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out five. Steve Delabar pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Josh Kinney pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Derek Jeter had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit and drew a walk. Teixeira had three hits and an RBI, Raul Ibanez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Andruw Jones had a hit and an RBI. Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Russell Martin had a hit. Rodriguez hit a double and Teixeira hit two doubles. Rodriguez also hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Suzuki and Martin each had a stolen base and Rodriguez committed an error.

Casper Wells had a hit and John Jaso had two hits and an RBI. Wells hit a double and the Mariners were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base. Ackley and Jaso each had a stolen base.

In the third Jaso hit an RBI single to make it 1-0 Mariners. In the fourth Teixeira hit an RBI double, Ibanez hit an RBI single and Jones hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Yankees. In the eighth Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees snapped a four game losing streak and are now 1-4 on their current seven game road trip. The Yankees record improved to 58-38 and the Mariners record dropped to 42-56. The two teams will play their second game of three on Tuesday night in Seattle.

The Mets continue to free fall as they lose to the Washington Nationals in extras

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals by the score of 8-2 on Monday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. The final score isn’t even the story, it was tied until the tenth inning. The Mets gave up six runs in the tenth, which is the most they ever gave up in extra innings. The Mets turned a 2-2 tie into an 8-2 deficit. Chris Young started and pitched pretty well, the bullpen did not. Ruben Tejada led the Mets offense. Jordan Zimmerman started for the Nationals and pitched well and the bullpen also pitched well. Bryce Harper led the Nationals offense. 
Young started for the Mets and seven innings giving up three hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out seven. Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Jon Rauch faced one batter and retired him and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit. Tim Byrdak took his second loss of the season. He didn’t record an out and gave up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned. Pedro Beato pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and Elvin Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. Zimmerman pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out six. Drew Storen faced one batter and retired him, Mike Gonzalez pitched one inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Ryan Mattheus pitched one inning giving up a hit. Tom Gorzellany won his third game of the season. He pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Tejada had three hits, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI. Daniel Murphy had two hits, Andres Torres drew a walk and Josh Thole had a hit. Murphy had a double, Wright and Davis each hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base. Tejada committed an error.

Steve Lombardozzi had two hits, Harper had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and three RBI. Michael Morse had a hit and two RBI, Adam LaRoche had a hit and drew a walk and Gorzellany drew a walk. Danny Espinosa had a hit, Roger Bernadina had a hit and Sandy Leon drew a walk. Zimmerman had a double, Harper and Morse each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Harper had a stolen base, Leon had a passed ball.

Harper hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead. In the fourth Wright hit a solo homerun to make it 2-1 Nationals. In the seventh Davis hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two. The Nationals scored six runs in the tenth to break the tie and win the game 8-2. Harper had an RBI single, Zimmerman had a three run double and Morse hit a two run homerun.

The Mets continued their skid and their record is now 47-49. The Nationals record improved to 56-39. The two teams will play game two of a three game series on Tuesday night.

The Yankees lose on a walkoff in Oakland and get swept

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics by the score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The game wasn’t just a loss it was an extra inning loss. The game took place at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California. CC Sabathia started and pitched ok but not great. The Yankees bullpen did blow the game. Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira led the Yankees offense. Bartolo Colon started for the A’s and wasn’t great but he wasn’t terrible. The A’s bullpen was very good and their offense was led by Coco Crisp and Seth Smith. 
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out six. Dave Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Rafael Soriano blew the save pitching an inning and giving up a run on two hits and he struck out two. David Phelps pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings and struck out three, Clay Rapada faced two batters retiring them both, one on a strikeout and Cody Eppley took the loss his second of the season. Eppley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run. Colon pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five. Jordan Noberto pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and striking out three, Grant Balfour pitched one inning giving up two hits and striking out two and Jerry Blevins won his third game of the season. Blevins pitched two innings walking one and striking out two batters.

Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Teixeira had two hits and an RBI and Cano had two hits. Alex Rodriguez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Raul Ibanez had a hit and Eric Chavez had a hit and drew a walk. DeWayne Wise and Chris Stewart each had a hit and Rodriguez hit a double. Granderson hit a homerun, the Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and they left 11 men on base. Nix Committed an error and Sabathia had a pickoff.

Jonny Gomes had a hit, Crisp had two hits and an RBI and Josh Reddick had a hit and drew a walk. Chris Carter had a hit, Brandon Inge had a hit and two RBI and Smith had two hits and an RBI. Eric Sogard had a hit, Kurt Suzuki had a hit and an RBI and Derek Norris had a hit. Reddick hit a double, Inge, Suzuki and Smith each hit a homerun. The Athletics were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Crisp had a stolen base and Inge was caught stealing. Reddick committed an error.

In the third Teixeira had an RBI single and Rodriguez hit a two run double to make it 3-0 Yankees. In the fourth Granderson hit a solo homerun to make it a 4-0 Yankees lead. Inge and Suzuki each had a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. In the sixth Inge grounded out and a run scored to make it a 4-3 game. In the ninth Smith hit a homerun to tie the game at four. In the 12th inning Crisp had an RBI single which made it 5-4 Oakland and gave them the win.

The Yankees lost all four games in Oakland to get swept. The loss gave the Yankees a record of 57-38 and the Athletics record improved to 51-44. The Yankees will head to Seattle to begin a three game series on Monday night.

The Mets get swept at home by the Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 6-3 Dodgers and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,New York. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched pretty well. The Mets bullpen except for Ramon Ramirez pitched well. Nathan Eovaldi started for the Dodgers and pitched well and their bullpen pitched pretty well. Daniel Murphy and David Wright led the Mets offense and Mark Ellis, Matt Kemp and A.J. Ellis led the Dodgers offense. 
Niese pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and three runs. He didn’t walk a batter and he struck out three. Tim Byrdak faced two batters and retired them both, one was struck out and Jon Rauch faced one batter and retired him. Bobby Parnell pitched two innings giving up a hit, Ramirez took his second loss of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with three walks and a strikeout. Elvin Ramirez pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter. Eovaldi pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and one run with a walk and seven strikeouts. Scott Elbert pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and a walk and he struck out one, Shawn Tolleson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and struck out one and Jamey Wright pitched an inning giving up a hit. Javy Guerra pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run and walked two, Josh Wall pitched an inning giving up a hit and he won his first game and Josh Lindblom pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Jordany Valdespin had two hits and Wright had three hits. Ike Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had four hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had two hits, Josh Thole had two hits and an RBI and Scott Hairston drew a walk. Niese drew a walk, Murphy had two doubles, Davis and Nieuwenhuis each had a double. The Mets were 4-19 with 14 men left on base. Wright had a stolen base and was caught stealing. Murphy committed an error.

Jerry Hairston Jr. had a hit, Tony Gwynn Jr. had a hit and Ellis had two hits. Kemp had two hits, Andre Ethier had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Juan Rivera had a hit and two RBI, Matt Treanor had a hit and two RBI and Luis Cruz had a hit and an RBI. Adam Kennedy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, A.J. Ellis had two hits and drew a walk and James Loney had a hit. Kennedy hit a double, Rivera hit a homerun and the Dodgers were 5-17 with runners in scoring position and they left 10 men on base.

The Dodgers swept the three game series from the Mets. The Mets record dropped to 47-48 and the Dodgers record improved to 52-44. The Mets will begin a three game series at home against the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
