The New York Mets blow out the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 10-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  Lucas Duda and Anthony Recker each had three hits. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out ten and earned his ninth win of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Goeddel pitched a perfect inning. 

Ervin Santana lost his 10th game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Juan Jaime pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Luis Avilan pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Gus Schlosser pitched two innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned. 

Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had an RBI and Duda had three hits.  Curtis Granderson had two hits and drew two walks, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had two hits and an RBI and Recker had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had two hits and two RBI, deGrom had an RBI and Bobby Abreu had a hit.  den Dekker, Duda and Recker each hit a double and Nieuwenhuis hit two doubles.  Tejada hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  den Dekker and Tejada each committed an error. 

Emilio Bonifacio had an RBI and drew a walk, Freddie Freeman drew a walk and Justin Upton had a hit.  Chris Johnson had two hits, Andrelton Simmons had an RBI and B.J. Upton drew a walk.  Ramiro Pena had a hit including a double and the Braves were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Bethancourt and Schlosser each committed an error.  Bethancourt also had a passed ball. 

In the first Murphy had an RBI groundout to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Tejada hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Mets.   In the fourth a passed ball gave the Mets a 3-0 lead, Recker hit a sacrifice fly and Tejada hit a solo homerun to make it 5-0 Mets.  In the fifth Simmons reached on a fielding error and a run scored, Bonifacio had an RBI walk and it was 5-2 Mets.  In the sixth deGrom hit a sacrifice bunt and an error allowed a run to score and make it 6-2 Mets.  A throwing error in the eighth allowed another run to score and give the Mets a 7-2 lead.  Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI double and Recker hit a two run double in the ninth to make it 10-2 which was the final score. 

The Mets swept the three game series and will be off on Monday before beginning a three game series with the Washington Nationals in Washington on Tuesday night. 

The New York Yankees take series from the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and in his first start since July 8th was good.  The bullpen was good and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Brian McCann and Ichiro Suzuki each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up one run on five hits.  He walked none and struck out four and won his 13th game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and David Robertson saved his 38th game of the season pitching an inning and he walked one and struck out one. 

Drew Hutchison pitched four innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out six and took his 13th loss of the season.  Aaron Loup pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Todd Redmond pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Daniel Norris pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   Dustin McGowan pitched a perfect inning. 

Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and McCann had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Young drew a walk, Chase Headley drew a walk and Francisco Cervelli drew two walks.  Suzuki had two hits including a double, Gardner and Jeter each hit a double.  McCann hit two homeruns and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suzuki and Jeter each had a stolen base. 

Jose Reyes had three hits, Jose Bautista had a hit and Edward Encarnacion had two hits and an RBI.  Munenori Kawasaki had a hit, Dalton Pompey drew a walk and Kawasaki hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Reyes had two stolen bases and Navarro had a passed ball. 

In the first Encarnacion grounded into a double play and a run scored to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  McCann homered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Jeter hit an RBI double and McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead.  The Jays added a run in the eighth on a Encarnacion RBI single.  The final score was 5-2 and the Yankees took three out of four in the series.  The Yankees will begin their final home series of the year against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.

The New York Mets shutout the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-0.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched very well and the bullpen held the lead.  Daniel Murphy had four hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up five hits and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his 11th game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Buddy Carlyle pitched a perfect inning. 

Julio Teheran pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six and lost his 13th game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jordan Walden pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs  with three walks and a strikeout and Luis Avilan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and two RBI, Murphy had four hits and Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Matthew den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk.  Dilson Herrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Granderson  and Murphy each hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Andrelton Simmons had three hits, Freddy Freeman drew two walks and Justin Upton had a hit.  B.J. Upton had a hit, Simmons hit a double and the Braves were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the sixth Duda hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the ninth Herrera had an RBI walk, Young Jr. had a two run single to make it 5-0 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.     

The New York Yankees win streak ends at three in loss to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Chris Capuano started and wasn't that good and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki each had two hits. 

Capuano pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts and he lost his fourth game of the season.  Chase Whitley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Esmil Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out three and David Huff pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one.  David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Marcus Stroman pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out seven and won his 11th game of the season.  Aaron Sanchez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and walking one, Brett Cecil pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Brandon Morrow pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Casey Janssen saved his 24th game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Suzuki had two hits, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Gardner, Young and Jeter each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Drew committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Jose Bautista had two hits, an RBI and drew three walks, Edward Encarnacion had three hits and an RBI and Dionar Navarro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Danny Valencia had a hit and two RBI, John Mayberry had an RBI and Steve Tolleson had a hit.  Munenori Kawasaki drew a walk, Kevin Pillar had two hits and drew a walk and Encarnacion and Valencia each hit a double.  Bautista hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Tolleson committed an error. 

In the first Encarnacion hit an RBI double to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the third on a McCann RBI single.   In the fourth Cervelli hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Yankees.  In the sixth Valencia hit a two run double to make it 3-2 Jays and Mayberry hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.  Bautista hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 5-2 Jays.  In the ninth Navarro hit an RBI single to make it 6-2 and Jeter hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 6-3 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of their four game series on Sunday afternoon and Masahiro Tanaka will return to test out his elbow. 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays for third straight win



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Shane Greene started and pitched great and Jacoby Ellsbury and Derek Jeter each had two hits. 

Greene pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two earned.  He didn't walk anyone and struck out seven and won his 11th game of the season.  Josh Outman gave up one hit to the only batter that he faced, Esmil Rogers pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walked a batter and Adam Warren saved his third game of the season and pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts. 

Mark Buehrle pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Buehrle lost his tenth game of the season.  Redmond pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Aaron Loup pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two. 

Ellsbury had two hits and three RBI, Jeter had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk and Ellsbury hit a double and a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  McCann committed an error.

In the first Encarnacion hit a two run homerun to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first McCann hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Ellsbury hit a two run homerun to make it 3-2 Yankees.   In the fourth Ellsbury had a two run groundout to make it 5-2 Yankees.  In the fifth Bautista grounded out to cut the Yankees lead to 5-3.  5-3 was the final score as the Yankees won their third straight and the two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.
