The New York Mets win their home opener over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-0 Mets.  It was their home opener and Jacob deGrom started and pitched well.  Michael Cuddyer led the offense with a couple of hits. 

deGrom pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out three and earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched to two batters and retired them both, one on a strikeout, Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and picking up his second save of the season. 

Aaron Harang pitched six innings giving up four hits and one run with two walks and a strikeout.  He lost his first game of the season.  Jeanmar Gomez pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson drew two walks, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Cuddyer had two hits.  Daniel Murphy had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Murphy hit a double, Cuddyer hit a triple and the Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base.

Odubel Herrera had a hit, Chase Utley drew a walk and Ryan Howard had a hit.  Carlos Ruiz drew a walk, Cody Asche had two hits, Freddy Galvis had three hits and the Phillies were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ruiz and Utley each committed an error. 

In the fourth Lagares hit an RBI single and in the eighth d'Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly.  That was all the scoring in the game as the Mets won 2-0.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.  Matt Harvey will make his home debut of 2015.   

The New York Yankees bats wake up in rout of the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 14-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched pretty well, Alex Rodriguez had four RBI and Chase Headley, Stephen Drew and Brian McCann each hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four.  David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and Kyle Davies pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and striking out two.  Tanaka earned his first win of the season. 

Clay Buchholz lost his first game of the season.  He pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and ten runs with nine of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out three, Craig Breslow pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three walks and he struck out one, Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and Anthony Varvaro pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Edward Mujica pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew two walks, Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI and Carlos Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and McCann had two hits and an RBI.  Rodriguez had a hit and four RBI, Gregorio Petit had a hit and Headley had three hits and three RBI.  Drew had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Rodriguez hit a double, Headley, Drew and McCann each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 6-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Drew was caught stealing.  Drew committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Brock Holt had a hit and David Ortiz drew a walk.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit and two RBI, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Mike Napoli had a hit and drew two walks.  Xander Bogaerts had two hits and two RBI including a double.  Ramirez hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Napoli committed an error and Betts had an outfield assist. 

The Yankees jumped right out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning.  Beltran grounded out into a force out and a run scored.  Rodriguez hit a three run double and then Headley and drew hit back-to-back homeruns and it was 7-0 Yankees.  In the fourth Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly and Bogaerts hit a two run double to make it a 7-3 game.  In the fourth Gardner hit a two run single to make it a 9-3 game and then Teixeira hit a sac fly to make it 10-3.  Ramirez hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it a 10-4 game.  In the sixth Rodriguez had an RBI walk, Headley hit an RBI single  and Drew hit a sacrifice fly  and it was a 13-4 game.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 14-4 and that was the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and are 2-4 on the season.  They will head to Baltimore to begin a three game series on Monday night.   

The New York Mets deal the Atlanta Braves their first loss of the season



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 4-3.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched well, he also had an RBI.  David Wright had a couple of hits and Lucas Duda had three hits. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out five and earned his second win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and picking up his first save of the season. 

Alex Wood pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Cody Martin pitched to one batter and struck him out, Juan Jaime pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and three walks and he took his first loss of the season.  Andrew McKirahan 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Wright had two hits and drew a walk, Duda had three hits and Michael Cuddyer had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  John Mayberry Jr. had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Anthony Recker drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and Colon had a hit and an RBI.  Daniel Murphy had an RBI, Flores hit a double and Cuddyer hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Jace Peterson had a hit, A.J. Pierzynski had a hit and Jonny Gomes had a hit and an RBI.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and two RBI and Simmons hit a double.  Simmons also hit a triple and Gomes hit a homerun.  The Braves were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Peterson had a stolen base. 

In the first Cuddyer hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Simmons hit a two run triple to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Colon hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Gomes hit a solo homerun in the seventh to tie the game at three.  Murphy hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.  The Mets will come home to New York to  have their home opener on Monday afternoon.  They will take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Mets lose a tight one in Atlanta



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in Atlanta and the final score was 5-3.  Dillon Gee started and did not pitch well.  Lucas Duda had two hits and the team only had three. 

Gee pitched five innings giving up eight hits and five runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Gee lost his first game of the season.  Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit, Sean Gilmartin pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up two hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out five and won his second game of the season.  Brandon Cunniff pitched to two batters and retired them both, Luis Avilan pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Jim Johnson pitched one innings giving up a hit and picking up his first save of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Duda had two hits and Michael Cuddyer drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud had an RBI.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Duda hit a double and the Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI and Freddie Freeman had a hit and an RBI.  Kelly Johnson had two hits, Alberto Callespo had a hit and Christian Bethancourt had a hit and an RBI.  Andrelton Simmons had a hit and an RBI, Callespo, Bethancourt and Simmons each hit a double.  Young Jr. hit a triple and Freeman hit a homerun.  The Braves 4-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Callespo committed an error. 

In the second Freeman hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth the Braves scored four runs to take a 5-0 lead.  Bethancourt hit an RBI double, Simmons hit an RBI double and Young Jr. hit an RBI triple.  Markakis hit an RBI single.  In the seventh the Mets got on the board.  Lagares reached on a fielding error and a run scored.  d'Arnaud was hit by a pitch to score a run and Flores grounded into a double play and a run scored.  The Mets cut the lead to 5-3 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Mets will then come home to New York and have their home opener on Monday afternoon with Jacob deGrom on the mound. 

New York Yankees lose third in a row as their sloppy play continues



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4.  Adam Warren started and pitched pretty well.  The bullpen didn't pitch great but they were tired from the marathon game and the defense didn't help at all with four unearned runs.  Chris Young hit a three run homerun to power the offense. 

Warren pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out one and took his first loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout, Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Matt Tracy pitched two innings giving up two hits and three unearned runs.  He walked two and struck out one. 

Joe Kelly won his first game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up a hit and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Alexi Ogando pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Anthony Varvaro pitched to one batter and struck him out and Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Young had a hit and three RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Garrett Jones had a hit and drew a walk, John Ryan Murphy drew a walk and Didi Gregorious had an RBI.  Gregorio Petit had a hit, Jones hit a double and Young hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Rodriguez, Murphy and Headley each committed an error and Murphy had a passed ball. 

Brock Holt had four hits and three RBI, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and two RBI and Mike Napoli drew a walk.  Pablo Sandoval had a hit, Allen Craig drew a walk and Daniel Nava had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit, Ryan Hanigan had an RBI and drew two walks and Nava, Pedroia and Holt each hit a double.  The Red Sox were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Bogaerts  and Napoli each had a stolen base. 

In the second Nava hit an RBI double to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  Gregorius hit a sacrifice fly in the second to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Nava hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Hanigan reached on a fielder's choice with a run scoring and Pedroia hit a two run double to make it 5-1.  Holt hit a three run double in the eighth to make it 8-1 Red Sox.  Young hit a three run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-4 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of their three game series on Sunday night.  Masahiro Tanaka will go up against Clay Bucholz.
