The New York Mets lose in Philadelphia as Cole Hamels shuts them down



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 3-1.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and wasn't bad but he didn't dominate.  The Mets offense only managed five hits off of Hamels. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeout.  Harvey lost his first game of the season, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning, Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and drawing a walk and Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Cole Hamels pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Hamels won his second game of the season.  Ken Giles pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and he saved his sixth game of the season.   

Michael Cuddyer had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wilmer Flores drew a walk.  Kevin Plawecki had a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Recker had a hit.  Herrera hit a double and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Ben Revere had a hit and an RBI, Freddy Galvis had three hits and drew a walk and Ryan Howard had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit, Howard hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Galvis had two stolen bases. 

Howard hit an RBI single in the first to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch in the fourth tied the game at one.  Howard hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Revere hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday. 

The New York Yankees drop one to the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chase Whitley started and didn't have it.  Jose Pirela led the offense with two hits. 

Whitley pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  David Carpenter pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zach Britton saved his sixth game of the season retiring both batters that he faced. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  J.R. Murphy had an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and Young and Drew each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Jimmy Paredes had three hits and an RBI and Adam Jones had a h it.  Delmon Young had two hits and two RBI, Chris Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza had a hit and two RBI.  Ryan Lavarnway drew a walk, Machado and Young each hit a double and Paredes hit a triple.  Paredes, DAvis and De Aza each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Flaherty and Machado each committed an error. 

In the third Paredes hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit a solo homerun in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0.  De Aza hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Orioles.  In the fifth Young hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.  The Yankees got on the board in the fifth on a Murphy sac fly.  In the seventh Young hit an RBI double to push the lead back to five runs.  Beltran hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  It will be the rubber game of the series as Michael Pineda will pitch for the Yankees against Bud Norris.

New York Yankees win second straight over the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Adam Warren started and didn't pitch great but didn't pitch terrible either.  The Yankees bullpen especially the back end was good.  Brett Gardner had a couple of hits and Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran each had a couple of RBI. 

Warren pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a strikeout, Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk and Dellin Betances won his fourth game of the season.   Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one and Andrew Miller saved his 13th game of the season pitching an inning with a strikeout. 

Miguel Gonzalez pitched four innings givign up five hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Gonzalez lost his second game of the season.  T.J. McFarland pitched three inning sgiving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teieira had a hit and drew a walk, McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Stephen Drew had a hit, Gardner hit a double, Beltran and Teixeira also each hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a triple and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and an outfield assist. 

Manny Machado had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and two RBI and ADam Jones had a hit.  Delmon Young had a hit and an RBI, Caleb Joseph had two hits and drew a walk and Travis Snider had a hit.  J.J. Hardy had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Flaherty drew a walk and Hardy hit a double.  The Orioles were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Machado was caught stealing and Young had an outfield assist. 

Int he first Rodriguez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  McCann hit a two run homerun and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the third Beltran hit a two run double to make it a 5-0 game.  In the fifth Machado hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.  Young hit into a force out and the score was 5-2 Yankees.  In the sixth Paredes hit a two run single that cut the lead to 5-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three on Saturday afternoon.  They will then conclude the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees have taken the first two of the series and will look to win the series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees get back on the winning track with home win over the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched ok.  Alex Rodriguez had a couple of hits and RBI and Mark Teixeira had a couple of hits and RBI.  Rodriguez hit his 661st homerun to become fourth on the all-time homeruns list passing Willie Mays. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Eovaldi won his third game of the season.  Justin Wilson faced four batters and retired them all, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Andrew Miller picked up his 12th save of the season.  Miller walked a batter and struck out two. 

Chris Tillman lost his fourth game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Tommy Hunter pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Brian Matusz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and drew a walk, Brett Gardner had two hits and Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI.  Teixeira had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Gardner, Teixeira and Drew each hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Eovaldi had a pickoff. 

In the first Paredes hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the first on a Rodriguez sac fly that was a three run homerun that Young brought back.  Teixeira hit an RBI single to give them a 2-1 lead.  In the third Joseph hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the seventh to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  Joseph hit an RBI double in the fifth to tie the game at three.  Teixeira hit an RBI double in the fifth to make it a 4-3 game and that would be the final score as the Yankees bullpen shut down the Orioles.  The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.  Adam Warren will start for the Yankees against Miguel Gonzalez of the Orioles.

The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Jacob deGrom started and pitched well and Dilson Herrera had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with one walk and nine strikeouts.  deGrom won his third game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Alex Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Ubaldo Jiminez pitched four innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Jiminez lost his second game of the season.  Brad Brach pitched two innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Kevin Gausman pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jason Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and two RBI, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores drew a walk.  Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk, Herrera had three hits and three RBI and deGrom had a hit.  Granderson and Herrera each hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

In the second Herrera hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a solo homerun in the third to increase the lead to 2-0 Mets.  In the fourth Granderson hit a sac fly to make it a 3-0 game.  Paredes hit an RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.  Herrera hit a two run homerun in the sixth to make it 5-1 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will have the day off on Thursday before beginning a three game series in Philadelphia on Friday night.
