The New York Yankees sweep the Anaheim Angels to win sixth in a row

The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2 Yankees.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and started off bad but pitched well and then got ejected.  Brett Gardner, Chris Young and Jose Pirela each hit a homerun.  Pirela hit his first major league homerun. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up two runs on five hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and picked up his third win of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a walk, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

C.J. Wilson lost his fifth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and six runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning walking one and striking out two. 

Gardner had a hit and three RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Chris Young had a hit and an RBI, Pirela had two hits and an RBI and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela hit a double,  Young, Gardner and Pirela each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Headley committed an error and Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Erick Aybar had a hit, Mike Trout had a hit and an RBI and Albert Pujols had two hits and an RBI.  David Freese had a hit and drew a walk, Chris Iannetta drew a walk and Freese hit a double and Trout and Pujols each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the first Trout and Pujols hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Angels a 2-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  Young hit a solo homerun in the fifth to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Gardner hit a three run homerun and gave the Yankees a 5-2 lead.  Pirela hit his first major league homerun in the seventh to make it 6-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have now won six in a row and will have the day off on Monday.  They will begin a brief two game series against the Washington Nationals at home on Tuesday night.  It will be a marquee matchup with Masahiro Tanaka going up against Max Scherzer.   

The New York Yankees drop one to the Baltimore Orioles

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chase Whitley started and didn't have it.  Jose Pirela led the offense with two hits. 

Whitley pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  David Carpenter pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zach Britton saved his sixth game of the season retiring both batters that he faced. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  J.R. Murphy had an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and Young and Drew each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Jimmy Paredes had three hits and an RBI and Adam Jones had a h it.  Delmon Young had two hits and two RBI, Chris Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza had a hit and two RBI.  Ryan Lavarnway drew a walk, Machado and Young each hit a double and Paredes hit a triple.  Paredes, DAvis and De Aza each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Flaherty and Machado each committed an error. 

In the third Paredes hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit a solo homerun in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0.  De Aza hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Orioles.  In the fifth Young hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.  The Yankees got on the board in the fifth on a Murphy sac fly.  In the seventh Young hit an RBI double to push the lead back to five runs.  Beltran hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  It will be the rubber game of the series as Michael Pineda will pitch for the Yankees against Bud Norris.   

New York Yankees rally to win at Houston

The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in Kissimmee, Florida.  Scott Baker started the game and was roughed up and only lasted one inning.  The bullpen guys did a pretty good job.  The Yankees offense was led once again by the young guys.  Greg Bird, Ramon Flores and Jake Cave each hit a homerun, Jose Pirela had an RBI triple and Rob Refsnyder had a couple of RBI. 

Baker pitched an inning giving up three runs on six hits.  He walked none and struck out two.  Danny Burawa pitched one inning walking two and striking out one, Jose De Paula pitched two innings giving up one hit and striking out one and Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Tyler Webb pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Kyle Davies pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Caleb Cotham pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one, he earned the win.  Zach Nuding pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Nick Noonan had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Pirela had a hit and an RBI.  Stephen Drew worked a walk, Refsnyder had a hit and two RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Bird had a hit an two RBI, Austin Romine drew a walk and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Kyle Roller drew a walk, Tyler Wade had a hit and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Flores had a hit and an RBI, Jonathan Galvez had a hit and Cave had two hits and an RBI.  Noonan hit a double, Pirela hit a triple and Flores, Cave and Bird each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  The Yankees next game will be on Sunday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Washington Nationals. 

In the first the Astros took a 3-0 lead.  Chris Carter had a two run double and Luis Valbuena hit an RBI single.  In the sixth Flores hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 Astros.  In the bottom of the sixth the Astros got the run right back on a Jason Castro RBI double.  The Yankees scored in the eighth on a Cave solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and then Pirela hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the ninth the Yankees scored six times to take a 9-4 lead and that was the final score.  Noonan had an RBI walk, Refsnyder had a two run single, a balk scored another run and Bird hit a two run homerun to finish the scoring. 

The New York Yankees shutout the Baltimore Orioles

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-0.  Michael Pineda started and pitched great and the bullpen finished off the one hit shutout.  Derek Jeter led the offense with three RBI and Jose Pirela in his major league debut had two hits. 

Pineda pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with no runs and eight strikeouts.  Pineda earned his fourth win of the season.   Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Rich Hill had a walk and a strikeout in 1/3 of an inning and David Phelps retired the only batter that he faced. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his fifth game of the season.  Evan Meek pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Brian Matusz retired the only batter that he faced and Ryan Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit  and a run with a strikeout.  Joe Saunders pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Jeter had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Pirela had two hits and an RBI and Jeter hit a double.  Pirela hit a triple and Headley hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Suzuki had a stolen base. 

Nick Markakis drew a walk, J.J. Hardy had a hit and Walker drew a walk.  The Orioles left three men on base and Flaherty committed an error. 

In the third Pirela hit an RBI triple and Jeter hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Jeter hit a two run double and it was 4-0 Yankees.  Headley hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-0 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have won two straight and four out of five.  They have six games left on their schedule and still a very slim chance of making the playoffs.
