The New York Mets snap their skid with a one run victory over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New  York and the final score was 2-1.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and pitched very well.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a couple of hits and Kevin Plawecki had a couple of RBI to lead the offense. 

Verrett pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Jim Henderson gave up a hit and two walks without recording an out, Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out two and Jerry Blevins earned his first win of the year pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and earned his second save of the season. 

Adam Conley pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Dustin McGowan pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs and he took his first loss of the season and Bryan Morris pitched an inning walking a batter. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Neil Walker had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Cabrera had two hits and Plawecki had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  The Mets  were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Christian Yelich had two hits and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Martin Prado had two hits, Justin Bour had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and T.J. Realmuto drew a walk.  Miguel Rojas had a hit and drew a walk, Yelich and Suzuki each hit a double.  The Marlins were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Yelich had an outfield assist. 

In the seventh Plawecki hit a two run single to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the eighth Bour hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.  The Mets will be off on Thursday and on Friday they will begin a three game series in Cleveland.

The New York Mets lose their fourth in a row



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched well.  The Mets only had six hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and 12 strikeouts.  Jim Henderson picked up his first loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and Addison Reed pitched to one batter and retired him.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jose Fernandez started for the Marlins pitching five innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Craig Breslow pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, David Phelps won his second game of the year pitching two innings and walking a batter and striking out three.  A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Granderson hit a double.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Marcell Ozuna had a hit and Christian Yelich had a hit and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks, Justin Bour had a hit and Martin Prado had an RBI.  Derek Dietrich had two hits and an RBI.  Jeff Mathis drew a walk, Fernandez had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Miguel Rojas had a hit, Dietrich hit a double and the Marlins were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Yelich and Gordon each had a stolen base and Yelich was caught stealing.  Ozuna had an outfield assist. 

In the first Duda hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Dietrich hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Prado hit a sac fly to make it 2-1 Marlins and that would be the final score. 

The Mets have lost four in a row and will try and avoid the three game sweep on Wednesday night.   

The New York Yankees squeeze past the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well but didn't go deep into the game due to a high pitch count.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked four and struck out six.  Johnny Barbato picked up his first win pitching an inning and walking a batter, Chase Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Andrew Miller picked up his second save of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out two batters. 

Aaron Sanchez started for the Blue Jays and pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out five.  Brett Cecil pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Jesse Chavez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out two and Gavin Floyd pitched an inning striking out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Headley had two hits and drew a walk, Starlin Castro had an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Gregorius hit a double and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Castro committed an error. 

Kevin Pillar had a hit, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion drew a walk, Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk and Chris Colabello drew a walk.  Michael Saunders drew a walk, Bautista hit a double and the Blue Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Donaldson had a stolen base and Sanchez committed an error. 

In the second Castro hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Bautista hit a two run double to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth the Yankees tied the game on a McCann solo homerun.  In the seventh Ellsbury hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have won two in a row and are 4-2 on the young season. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.  Michael Pineda will look to rebound from a tough first start.

The New York Mets losing streak hits three as they lose to the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 10-3.  Steven Matz started his first game of the year and didn't pitch very well at all.  David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Matz took  his first loss of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Antonio Bastardo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings striking out four batters.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter. 

Jarred Cosart pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Chris Narveson won his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out two, Dustin McGowan pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Craig Breslow pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Bryan Morris pitched a perfect inning.

Dee Gordon had two hits and an RBI, Marcell Ozuna had two hits and an RBI and Christian Yelich had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Martin Prado had two hits and drew two walks and Chris Johnson had two hits and drew two walks.  J.T. Realmuto had three hits and an RBI, Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and three RBI and Johnson and Ozuna each hit a double.  Stanton and Ozuna each hit a homerun and the Marlins were 8-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Gordon had a stolen base and committed an error. 

In the second the Marlins scored seven runs to take a 7-0 lead.  Hechavarria hit a two run single, Gordon hit an RBI single, Yelich hit a two run single and Stanton hit a two run homerun.  In the third Hechavarria hit a sac fly to make it an 8-0 game.  The Mets got on the board in the fourth when Cespedes hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-1.  A wild pitch in the fourth made it 8-2 and Cabrera grounded into a force out to make it 8-3.  In the sixth Ozuna hit a solo homerun and Realmuto hit an RBI single to make it 10-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Mets have lost three games in a row and are now 2-4 on the season.  They will have Noah Syndergaard on the mound against Jose Fernandez in a battle of two young guns.

New York Mets lose to the Philadelphia Phillies and drop the series



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok.  David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits and that was it for the Mets offense. 

Harvey started for the Mets and pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season and for the first time in his career is 0-2.  Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jeremy Hellickson started for the Phillies and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He earned his first win of the season.  James Russell pitched to one batter retiring him, Hector Neris pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Jeanmar Gomez earned his second save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Wright had two hits, Cespedes had two hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Wright hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Freddy Galvis had a hit and an RBI, Cesar Hernandez had two hits and Odubel Herrera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Maikel Franco had two hits, Ryan Howard had an RBI and drew two walks and Peter Bourjos had a hit and drew a walk.  Hellickson had a hit, Andres Blanco had a hit and an RBI and Blanco hit a double and Herrera hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Hernandez had a stolen base and Ruiz was caught stealing. 

In the third Galvis hit a sacrifice fly to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Herrera hit a two run homerun and the lead was pushed to 3-0.  Cespedes hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the eighth Howard hit a sac fly to make it a 4-2 game and in the ninth Blanco hit an RBI double making it 5-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets lost two out of three in the series to the Phillies.  It was a disappointing start to the home schedule for the Mets.  The Mets will start a three game series on Monday night against the Miami Marlins.
