New York Mets win on Opening Day

 The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Thursday night.  The game took place at

Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 5-1.  Tylor Megill started for the Mets and

pitched well.  Pete Alonso, Robinson Cano, Mark Canha and Jeff McNeil each had two hits to lead the

offense.  

Patrick Corbin started for the Nationals and pitched four innings giving up five hits and two runs, he

gave up two walks and struck out four and took his first loss of the year.  Victor Arano pitched a perfect 

inning, Austin Voth pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout 

and Andres Machado pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Patrick Murphy

pitched an inning giving up two hits and Mason Thompson pitched an inning giving up a walk and 

striking out the side.  

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, Juan Soto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Josh Bell had a hit.  Keibert

Ruiz had two hits, Lane Thomas drew a walk and Alcides Escobar had a hit.  Ruiz hit a double and Soto 

hit a home-run.  The Nationals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Robles had an outfield assist.  

Megill won his first game of the season pitching five innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He struck

out six, Trevor May pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run, Adam Ottavino pitched a perfect 

inning striking out two and Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one.  Edwin

Diaz pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.  

Starling Marte had a hit and an RBI, J.D. Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Francisco Lindor had a

hit and an RBI.  Alonso had two hits, Eduardo Escobar had a hit and drew a walk and Cano had two hits.

Canha had two hits, McNeil had two hits and an RBI and James McCann had an RBI.  Escobar and Davis

hit a double and the Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Marte was

caught stealing and Lindor committed an error.  

In the top of the fifth McCann was hit by a pitch giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Marte grounded into a 

force out making it 2-0.  In the sixth Canha hit an RBI single, McNeil hit an RBI single pushing the

lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Soto hit a solo homer to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Lindor

hit an RBI single extending the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score.  

The two teams will play game two on Friday night.  Max Scherzer will start for the Mets.

New York Yankees pound the Atlanta Braves in blowout victory

 The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves in a rain shortened six inning game on Saturday.  

The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 

10-0.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and had his best start of the spring.  DJ LeMahieu led

the offense with three hits.  

Severino picked up the win pitching four innings and giving up a hit and no runs with no walks and 

three strikeouts.  Nestor Cortes pitched two innings giving up a hit and no runs with three strikeouts.  

Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had 

two hits and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks, LeMahieu had three hits and an RBI and 

Joey Gallo drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI, Kyle Higashioka had two hits and 

three RBI.  Hicks hit a double, Judge and Rizzo each hit a homerun and Higashioka hit two homeruns.  

In the bottom of the first Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the 

second Donaldson hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 2-0, Rizzo hit a solo homerun in the third to

extend the lead to 3-0.  Hicks hit a two-run double and Higashioka hit a two-run homerun pushing the 

lead to 7-0.  In the fourth a wild pitch made it 8-0 and LeMahieu hit an RBI single to make it a 9-0 game.

Higashioka hit a solo homerun in the fifth for his second of the game and to finish the scoring at 10-0.  

The Yankees will play at Dunedin against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.  

New York Yankees defeat the Detroit Tigers

 The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at 

Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 6-2.  Gerrit Cole made his final

spring tuneup before Opening Day on Thursday and he pitched well.  The bullpen also pitched well and 

Anthony Rizzo, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Kyle Higashioka each had two hits to lead the offense.  

Cole pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out five.  Ron 

Marinaccio pitched a perfect inning, Clay Holmes pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts

and Chad Green picked up the win pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  

Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and struck out one and Albert

Abreu pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.  

Rizzo had two hits and two RBI, Carlos Narvaez had a hit and two RBI and Gleyber Torres drew a walk.  

Kiner-Falefa had two hits, Higashioka had two hits and two RBI and Ender Inciarte drew two walks.  

Eduardo Torrealba had a hit, Narvaez hit a double and Higashioka hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 

3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Torres was caught stealing and Green had

a pickoff.  

In the bottom of the third Javier Baez reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored giving the Tigers a 1-0

lead.  In the top of the fifth Higashioka hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the 

sixth Miguel Cabrera hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the seventh 

Higashioka hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  Rizzo hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a

4-2 lead and Narvaez hit a two-run double pushing the lead to 6-2.  6-2 would be the final score.  

The Yankees will take on the Atlanta Braves at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida on 

Saturday.

New York Yankees offense shines in win over Detroit Tigers

 The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Joker 

Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 11-7.  Deivi Garcia started for the 

Yankees  and continued his strong spring with a solid outing.  Ronald Guzman led the offense with 

three hits and

five RBI.  

Garcia pitched three innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a

perfect inning with a strikeout and picked up the win, Luis Gil pitched three innings giving up a hit

and a walk with four strikeouts and Shawn Semple pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs

with a walk and a strikeout.  Derek Craft had an inning giving up three hits and two runs.  

Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Cooper Bowman had two hits and three RBI and Anthony Rizzo

drew a walk.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk, Miguel Andujar drew a walk and Matt Pita drew a walk.

Ender Inciarte had a hit, Raimfer Salinas had a hit and Tim Locastro had two hits.  Phillip Evans had 

a hit, Armando Alvarez had a hit and RBI and Guzman had three hits and five RBI.  Max McDowell

had two hits, Guzman hit a double and Locastro hit two doubles.  Torres and Bowman each hit a homerun.

The Yankees were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and left 5 men on base.  Locastro had a stolen 

base.  

In the top of the first Torres hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third

Dustin Garneau hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the top of the fifth Guzman hit a two-run 

double and a passed ball gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  In the sixth Guzman hit a two-run single pushing 

the lead to 6-1.  Bowman hit a three-run homerun making it a 9-1 game.  In the top of the eighth hit an 

RBI single extending the lead to 10-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Riley Greene hit a solo homer making

it 10-2.  Victor Reyes hit a three-run homerun cutting the lead to 10-5.  In the top of the ninth Alvarez

hit an RBI single and it was 11-5 Yankees.  In the bottom of the ninth Parker Meadows hit a sac fly

and Josh Lester hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 11-7.  The final score was 11-7.  The Yankees

will host the Philadelphia Phillies.  

Aaron Judge powers Yankees to win over the Pirates

 The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at 

George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 7-4.  Gerrit Cole started for the 

Yankees and struggled a little bit.  Judge led the offense with three hits and three RBI.  

Cole pitched two innings giving up four hits and four runs with three being earned.  He walked one and 

struck out five.  Barrett Loseke pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Jordan Montgomery

pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out five.  Montgomery picked up the win, Alex 

Mauricio pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a 

strikeout and Albert Abreu pitched a perfect inning.  Zach Greene pitched a perfect inning striking

out one and picking up the save.  

Josh Donaldson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and three RBI and Anthony Rizzo

had a hit.  Michael Beltre had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  David Freitas had

a hit, Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI and Kyle Higashioka had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.

Donaldson, Higashioka and Gonzalez each hit a homerun and Judge hit two homeruns.  The Yankees left

4 men on base.  Beltre was caught stealing and Gonzalez and Rizzo each committed an error.  

In the first Donaldson hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the second former 

Yankee farmhand Diego Castillo hit a two-run homerun giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the 

third Cole Tucker hit a solo homerun pushing the Pirates lead to 3-1.  Roberto Perez hit an RBI single 

making it a 4-1 game.  In the bottom of the third Higashioka hit a solo homerun and then Judge hit a solo

homer cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the fourth Gonzalez hit a two-run homer giving the 

Yankees a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit his second homerun of the game a two run shot

pushing the Yankees lead to 7-4.  7-4 would be the final score and the Yankees will head to Lakeland to

take on the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
