The New York Mets defeat the Houston Astros in a close one



The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Rafael Montero started for the Mets and pitched well and so did the bullpen.  The Mets offense only managed four hits. 

Montero pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Mejia picked up his sixth win of the season. 

Samuel Deduno pitched four innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Jake Buchanan pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Kevin Chapman pitched a perfect inning and Jose Veras pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.  Tony Sipp blew his second save and lost his third game of the season.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 


Matt den Dekker had a hit, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI.  Anthony Recker drew a walk, Ruben Tejada had a hit and den Dekker hit a double.  Young Jr. hit a triple and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Recker had a passed ball.
 
Robbie Grossman had a hit, Dexter Fowler had two hits and Jason Castro had a hit and an RBI.  Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and drew a walk, Matt Dominguez drew a walk and Deduno had a hit.  Gonzalez, Deduno and Castro each hit a double.  The Astros were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Fowler had a stolen base and Dominguez committed an error. 
In the sixth Castro hit an RBI double to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  The Mets scored two runs in the ninth to win the game 2-1 and even the three game series.  Duda hit a walk-off two run homerun.  The Mets will play the rubber game of the three game series and the final game of the 2014 season on Sunday afternoon. 
 


The New York Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka get hit hard in loss to the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 10-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started and got knocked around but felt fine physically which was the most important to him and the Yankees.  Bryan Mitchell and Chase Whitley pitched well out of the bullpen.  Ichiro Suzuki, Chase Headley, Chris Young and Francisco Cervelli each had two hits and Derek Jeter had a hit. 
Tanaka pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with five of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out two.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Preston Claiborne pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs which were unearned and a walk, Mitchell pitched four innings giving up four hits and a run with three strikeouts and Whitley pitched two innings giving up two hits and he had four strikeouts. 
Joe Kelly won his sixth game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings and giving up nine hits and four runs.  He

walked two and struck out three.  Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Rubby De La

Suzuki had two hits, Jeter had a hit and Cervelli had two hits.  Austin Romine had a hit, Headley had two hits and Young had two hits and an RBI.  Stephen Drew had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Jose Pirela had a hit and drew a walk and Brendan Ryan had an RBI.  Headley, Young and Drew each hit a double.  Pirela hit a triple and the Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Headley commited an error and Perez committed two errors. 

Mookie Betts had a hit and drew a walk, Xander Bogaerts had two hits and Daniel Nava had three hits and three RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and two RBI, Rivero had a hit and Cecchini had two hits and an RBI.  Rusney Castillo had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Brentz had a hit and Christian Vasquez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Betts, Bogaerts and Rivero each hit a double and Cecchini hit two doubles.  The Red Sox were 10-19 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Castillo had a stolen base. 

In the first Cespedes had an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the second the Red Sox scored eight runs to take a 9-0 lead.  Vasquez hit an RBI single, Nava hit a two run single, Cespedes hit an RBI single, Craig reached on an error allowing two runs to score, Cecchini hit an RBI double and Castillo hit an RBI single.  In the sixth Nava hit an RBI single to make it 10-0 Red Sox.  The Yankees scored a run in the seventh on a Ryan sacrifice fly.  The Yankees added three runs in the eighth to make it 10-4 and that would be the final score.  Young hit an RBI single and Drew hit a two run double.  The two teams will play the final game of the season and the rubber game of their three game series on Sunday afternoon. 

The New York Mets lose to the Houston Astros 3-1



The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Jon Niese started and pitched well and the Mets offense only managed five hits. 

Niese pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out four.  Carlos Torres lost his sixth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out the side. 

Brad Peacock pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Kevin Chapman won his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a walk, Jorge De Leon pitched 2/3 of an inning and Tony Sipp pitched two innings with two strikeouts.  Chad Qualls saved his 19th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk and Ruben Tejada drew a walk.  Niese had a hit, Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  den Dekker had a stolen base, Recker committed an error and Young Jr. and Granderson each had an outfield assist. 

Grossman had a hit, Jose Altuve had a hit and an RBI and Chris Carter had a hit.  Dexter Fowler had a hit and drew a walk, Matt Dominguez had a hit and an RBI and Marisnick had a hit.  Corporan drew a walk, Petit had a hit and Grossman and Carter each hit a double.  The Astros were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Fowler had a stolen base and Petit was caught stealing. 

In the fourth Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth the Astros scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.  Altuve hit an RBI single, Carter hit an RBI double and Dominguez had an RBI single.  The two teams will play game two of their series on Saturday night. 

 

The New York Yankees win the first game of their last series of the season



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway  Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-2.  Chris Capuano started and pitched great and David Robertson bounced back with the save.  Francisco Cervelli led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Capuano pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out five and earned his third win of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Adam Warren pitched an inning striking out two and Robertson saved his 39th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts. 

Steven Wright lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up four hits and two runs with none being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Matt Barnes pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Heath Hembree pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out one. 
Eury Perez had a hit, Cervelli had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Young had a hit and drew a

walk.  John Ryan Murphy had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Zelous Wheeler


had an RBI, Antoan Richardson had a hit and Murphy hit
double.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Perez stole a base, Young and Pirela each committed an error and Young had an outfield assist. 

Xander Bogaerts had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and Allen Craig had a hit.  Rusney Castillo had two hits and an RBI, Bryce Brentz had a hit and an RBI and Castillo hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left and left three men on base.  Castillo had a stolen base, Betts committed an error and Butler had two passed balls. 

In the second Brentz hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cervelli hit an RBI single and Murphy grounded out scoring a run to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Wheeler hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.  In the seventh Castillo hit a solo homerun to make it 3-2.  The final score was 3-2.  The Yankees won the first game of a three game series, they will play the second game on Saturday afternoon. 

 

 

Derek Jeter ends his Yankee Stadium career with a storybook ending



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Hiroki Kuroda started and after a rough start pitched very well.  David Robertson blew the save but Jeter was the hero once again. 

Kuroda pitched eight innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.  Robertson blew his fifth save and won his fourth game of the season.  Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and gave up two walks. 

Kevin Gausman pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  T.J. McFarland pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three unearned runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Brian Matusz pitched 2/3 of an inning and Joe Saunders pitched an inning giving up a walk.  Evan Meek lost his fourth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jeter had two hits and three RBI and Brian McCann had two RBI.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk.  Jose Pirela had two hits, Jeter hit a double and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Jeter committed an error. 

Nick Markakis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza had two hits and an RBI and Adam Jones had a hit and two RBI.  Steve Pearce had a hit and an RBI, Markakis, De Aza, Jones and Pearce each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Kelly Johnson, Jimmy Paredes  and J.J. Hardy each committed an error.  Caleb Joseph had a passed ball. 

Markakis and De Aza hit back-to-back homeruns to start the game and gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  Jeter hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first and McCann reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Jeter reached on a fielder's choice and an error allowing two runs to score.  McCann hit a sacrifice fly and it was 5-2 Yankees.  Jeter took the field for his last inning and the crowd rose and the noise grew with excitement and anticipation.  Robertson rained on his parade by blowing a save, he gave up a two run homerun to Jones and a solo homerun to Pearce to tie the game at five.  Jeter left the field but was coming up third in the bottom of the ninth.  Pirela led off with a single, Richardson pinch ran and Gardner bunted him to second.  Jeter stepped up to the plate and on the first pitch had a classic Jeter hit to right field for the game winning hit and the Yankees won 6-5.  Pandemonium broke out as everyone mobbed Jeter between first and second.  It was an unreal experience and then as he walked towards the dugout the rest of the core four, Joe Torre, Gerald Williams, Tino Martinez and Bernie Williams all greeted him and his family.  It was a storybook career and a storybook ending to his Yankee Stadium career.  The Yankees split the four game series with the Orioles and will now head to Boston for the final three games of their season.
