The New York Mets are shutout by the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and Juan Lagares had two hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Niese took his second loss of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. 

Gio Gonzalez started for the Nationals and pitched seven innings giving up six hit sand no runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season, Aaron Barrett pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Matt Grace pitched to one batter and retired him and Drew Storen earned his sixth game of the season. 

Lagares had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and Michael Cuddyer drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy ahd a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and Anthony Recker drew a walk.  Duda hit a double and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. 

Michael Taylor had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Werth had a hit and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit, Wilson Ramos had two hits and Ian Desmond had two hits.  Daniel Espinosa had two hits.  The Nationals were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second Taylor hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead and that would be all that he could handle.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Matt Harvey started and pitched very well and Juan Lagares and Daniel Murphy led the team with a couple of hits each. 

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out three.  Harvey won his fifth game of the season, Alex Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out two and saving his tenth game of the season. 

Max Scherzer pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Scherzer lost his third game of the season.  Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Blake Treinen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Lagares had two hits and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Micahel Cuddyer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Murphy had two hits and three RBI, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and Granderson and Murphy each hit a double and Cuddyer hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Flores committed an error. 

Michael Taylor had two hits, Bryce Harper drew a walk and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit,  Wilson Ramos had two hits and Dan Uggla had a hit.  Taylor and Zimmerman each hit a double adn the Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Harper was caught stealing and Harper had an Outfield assist. 

In the fourth Cuddyer hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Murphy hit a three run double to make it 4-0 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play on Saturday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees make it two in a row over the Boston Red Sox in Boston



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 4-2.  Nathan Eovaldi pitched really well and the bullpen closed the door.  Brett Gardner led the offense with a couple of hits and three RBI. 

Eovaldi pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with one walk and two strikeouts.  Eovaldi won his second game of the season.  Chris Maritn pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Dellin Betances recorded his first save of the season.  Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out all four batters that he faced. 

Wade Miley lost his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and three runs.  He struck out three, Tommy Layne pitched to two batters and retired them both and Alexi Ogando pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Gardner had two hits and three RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Chris Young had two hits and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Gregorio Peti t had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Young, Gardner and Headley each hit a double.  Young hit a homerun adn the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit and and RBI, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and an RBI and David Ortiz had two hits.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Blake Swihart had a hit and drew a walk.  Betts hit a double and Pedroia hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  H. Ramirez had an outfield assist.

In the third Gardner hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Pedroia hit a solo homerun to tie ghe game at one.  In the fifth Gardner hit a two run single to make it 3-1 Yankees.  The Red Sox cut the lead to one in the sevneth on a Betts RBI double.  In the ninth the Yankees added an insurance run with a Young solo homerun to make it 4-2. 

The Yankees will be looking for the series sweep on Sunday night. 

New York Yankees win a close one in Boston



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-2.  CC Sabathia started and pitched well for the Yankees.  The Yankees bullpen was great as usual and Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran led the offense with two hits each. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Esmil Rogers won his first game of the season pitching an inning and walking one, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his ninth game of the season.  He pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Justin Masterson pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout, Junichi Tazawa lost his first game of the season pitching an ininng and giving up two hits and a run and Robbie Ross pitched an inning giving up two walks and striking out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits, Brett Gardner haa hit anddrew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew two walks.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Beltran had two hits and an RBI and Chris Young drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk.  Beltran and Headley each hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had an RBI, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and drew two walks and David Ortiz had a hit.  Mike Napoli had a hit an ddrew a walk, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Allen Craig had a hit and an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Hanigan had a hit and Bogaerts, Hanigan and Napoli each hit a double and Craig hit a homerun.  The Red sox were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Beltran hit an RBI double to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead.  The Red Sox answered back in the third with a Betts sac fly.  In the fourth Craig hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the seventh on a McCann RBI single and in the eighth Rodriguez hit a pinch hit solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  3-2 would be the final score of the game.  It was also Rodriguez 660th homerun tying Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time homerun list. 

The Yankees and Red Sox will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets rally to defeat the Miami Marlins 3-1



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Dillon Gee started and pitched well and Juan Lagares led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Gee pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Carlos Torres won his first game of the season pitching to one batter and retiring him and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect innign with a strikeout and earned his ninth save of the season. 

Jarred Cosart pitched eight innings giving up two hits and no runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Steve Cishek pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Lagares had two hits and Lucas Duda drew three walks.  Daniel Murphy had a hit and three RBI, Eric Campbell had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Lagares and Campbell each hit a double and Murphy hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Campbell had a stolen base. 

Dee Gordon had two hits, Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit.  Michael Morse had a hit, Justin Bour had a hit and the Marlins were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the eighth Prado hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Murphy hit a three run homerun to give the Mets a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets and Marlins will play on Tuesday night.
