New York Mets win a close one over the Cleveland Indians



The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 6-5.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  Yoenis Cespedes led the offense with three hits. 

Colon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Hansel Robles pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia saved his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Cody Anderson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Ross Detwiler pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Joba Chamberlain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Trevor Bauer pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Dan Otero pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had two hits and an RBI.  Cespedes had three hits and two RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Neil Walker had two hits and two RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza had three hits and an RBI and Cabrera hit a double.  De Aza and Cespedes hit a double.  Conforto, De Aza, Cespedes and Walker each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Conforto and Wright each committed an error. 

Rajai Davis had a hit, Jeff Kipnis had three hits and an RBI and Mike Napoli had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Yan Gomes had a hit and Marlon Byrd had two hits and an RBI.  Juan Uribe had three hits and drew a walk, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Kipnis  hit two doubles.  Uribe and Napoli each hit a double and Santana hit a homerun.  The Indians were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Davis had a stolen base,  Lindor committed an error and Gomes had a passed ball.  Byrd and Davis each had an outfield assist. 

In the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Napoli hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth De Aza hit a solo homerun to give the Mets back the lead at 2-1.  Cespedes hit a two run homerun in the fifth to push the lead to 4-1, Walker hit a two run homerun to make it 6-1 still in the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth Kipnis hit an RBI double and the lead got cut down to 6-2.  In the bottom of the ninth Santana hit a two run homerun to make it 6-4 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Mets record now stands at 4-5 on the young season. 

New York Yankees lose a close one to Seattle as they strand a ton of runners once again



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Carlos Beltran led the offense with four hits. 

Sabathia pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Sabathia took his first loss of the season.  Johnny Barbato pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings striking out two, Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up two hits and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side.  Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Felix Hernandez picked up his first win of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and a run with six walks and four strikeouts.  Vidal Nuno pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Nick Vincent pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Joaquin Benoit pitched a perfect inning.  Steve Cishek pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and earned his first save of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew two walks, Brett Gardner had two hits and Mark Teixeira drew two walks.  Beltran had four hits and two RBI, Starlin Castro had three hits and Chase Headley drew two walks.  Austin Romine had a hit, Beltran hit two doubles and Romine hit a double.  Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Castro had two stolen bases and Headley had a stolen base.  Headley also committed an error. 

Nori Aoki had a hit, Kyle Marte had two hits and Robinson Cano had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Nelson Cruz had two hits and an RBI, Dae-Ho Lee had a hit and Adam Lind had a hit.  Leonys Martin had a hit and an RBI, Luis Sardinas had a hit and Cruz hit two doubles.  Lind hit a double and Martin hit a homerun and the Mariners were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Sardinas had a stolen base.  Lind committed an error. 

In the third Beltran hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Martin hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Cano hit an RBI single to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the fifth.  Cruz hit an RBI double and it was 3-1 Mariners still in the fifth.  In the seventh Beltran hit a solo homerun to make it 3-2 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees have lost four games in a row.  The Yankees will try and salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Yankees lose third straight as they leave a small army on base



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-1.  The game was a lot closer and a combination of the Yankees leaving runners on and the game getting away later on in the game made it look like a blowout.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched ok and the bullpen wasn't very good.  Brett Gardner had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season. Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tyler Olson pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks. 

Nathan Karns started for the Mariners and pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Karns won his first game of the season.   Tony Zych pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout, Vidal Nuno pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one and Joel Peralta pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Mike Montgomery pitched an inning giving up a walk. 

Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Mark Teixeira drew two walks and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Dustin Ackley drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Gregorius hit a double.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Headley had a stolen base and Gregorius committed an error. 

Nori Aoki drew a walk, Seth Smith had a hit and drew a walk and Franklin Gutierrez had a hit and two RBI.  Robinson Cano had two hits and an RBI, Nelson Cruz had two hits and drew a walk and Adam Lind had two hits and an RBI.  Chris Iannetta had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Ketel Marte had a hit and Smith, Cruz and Gutierrez eac h hit a double.  Iannetta hit a homerun and the Mariners were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Marte had a stolen base. 

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cano hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Iannetta hit a two run homerun to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead.  Lind hit an RBI single in the sixth and it was 4-1 Mariners.  Gutierrez hit a sac fly in the seventh to make it a 5-1 game, Iannetta hit an RBI single in the eighth and in the ninth Gutierrez hit an RBI double to make it 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will try and snap a three game skid and even the series.

New York Yankees drop finale and series in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-2.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched ok but he made one big mistake giving up a three run homerun.  The offense for the Yankees was pretty much completely shut down. 

Eovaldi pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Johnny Barbato pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Marcus Stroman started for the Blue Jays and pitched eight innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He earned his second win of the season and Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning to earn his fourth save of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley drew a walk and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Kevin Pillar had two hits, Josh Donaldson had two hits and three RBI and Jose Bautista drew two walks.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and an RBI and Michael Saunders had two hits.  Russell Martin drew a walk, Encarnacion, Pillar, Saunders and Donaldson each hit a double.  Donaldson and Tulowitzki each hit a homerun.  The Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the fourth Beltran grounded into an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Castro was batting and a wild pitch made it 2-0.  In the fifth Donaldson hit a three run homerun to put the Jays up 3-2 and in the sixth Tulowitzki hit a solo homerun to make it 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees lose two out of three in the series and are now 4-4 on the season.  They have lost two in a row and will begin a nine game home stand on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.   

New York Yankees lose as close game gets away late



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well.  Ivan Nova was not good out of the bullpen.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits. 

Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out six and took his first loss of the season.  Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Nova pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs. 

J.A. Happ pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Happ earned his first win of the season.  Brett Cecil pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Drew Storen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and struck out one and Pat Venditte pitched a perfect inning.  Ellsbury had two hits, Aaron Hicks had an RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Beltran had two hits, Starlin Castro drew a walk and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Torreyes had two hits, Austin Romine had a hit and Torreyes hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torreyes committed an error. 

Kevin Pillar had an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and Jose Bautista had two hits and an RBI.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and an RBI.  Michael Saunders had two hits and drew a walk, Russell Martin had an RBI and drew a walk and Justin Smoak drew a walk.  Ryan Goins had three hits and two RBI including two doubles and Saunders hit two doubles.  Donaldson and Bautista each hit a double.  The Jays were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Saunders was caught stealing. 

In the second Goins hit an RBI double giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Hicks hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  Pillar reached on a throwing error and a run scored to give the Jays a 2-1 lead still in the fifth.  Donaldson grounded into a double play and a run scored and it was 3-1 Toronto.  In the eighth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the bottom of the eighth the Jays broke the game open.  Bautista hit an RBI double, Tulowitzki hit an RBI single, Martin hit a sac fly and Goins hit an RBI single and it was 7-2 Jays and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday night.  Nathan Eovaldi will go up against Marcus Stroman.
