New York Yankees win a close one with the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched very well and the bullpen dominated once again as the big three were used for their third straight day.  Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the offense and Carlos Beltran had two . 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and earned his fifth win of the season and Aroldis Chapman earned his 15th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Ervin Santana pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts.  Taylor Rogers pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Ryan Pressly pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and he lost his fourth game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Gardner had three hits and Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Alex Rodriguez had a hit, Brian McCann had two hits and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had an RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Joe Mauer had a hit, Brian Dozier had a hit and an RBI and Max Kepler drew a walk.  Kurt Suzuki had a hit, Dozier hit a homerun and the Twins left three men on base.  Escobar committed an error  and Grossman had an outfield assist. 

In the second Dozier hit a solo homerun giving the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Beltran hit an RBI single to tie the game at one and in the eighth Castro reached on a force attempt and got an RBI to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will go for the three game sweep on Sunday afternoon.  They will then remain at home to close out the home stand with the Texas Rangers for three. 

New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins again



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Alex Rodriguez had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up three runs on seven hits and he walked two and struck out seven.  Tanaka picked up his fifth win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman saved his 14th game of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out the side. 

Tommy Milone lost his second game of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out one.  Neil Ramirez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Ryan Pressly pitched an inning with a strikeout and Buddy Boshers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Austin Romine had an RBI and Beltran hit a double.  Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Eduardo Nunez had a hit and two RBI, Joe Mauer drew a walk and Brian Dozier had two hits.  Eduardo Escobar had a hit, Byung Ho Park drew a walk and Kurt Suzuki had two hits.  Byron Buxton had a hit and an RBI, Dozier, Buxton and Suzuki each hit a double.  The Twins were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Escobar, Grossman and Mauer each committed an error. 

In the third Nunez hit a two run single to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.  In the third Beltran hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Buxton hit an RBI groundout to give the Twins back the lead at 3-2.  Romine hit a sac fly in the bottom of the third and the game was tied at three.  In the fourth Refsnyder hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and in the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-3 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees will try to sweep the three game series on Sunday afternoon.  They will then remain home to play three games against the AL best Texas Rangers.   

The New York Mets win their second straight game in Atlanta



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 1-0 Mets.  The game also lasted 11 innings and Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched great.  The bullpen was good and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and Kelly Johnson had the only RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched eight innings giving up seven hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit ,Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and he earned his second win of the season and Jeurys Familia saved his 26th game of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one. 

Julio Teheran pitched eight innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Arodys Vizcaino pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jim Johnson pitched an inning giving up a hit and Dario Alvarez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he picked up his first win of the season.  Chris Withrow pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked a batter. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Cespedes had two hits and drew a walk.  James Loney had a hit, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit.  Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Johnson hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Jace Peterson had a hit, Ender Inciarte had two hits and drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had a hit and drew a walk.  Nick Markakis had two hits, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Teheran had two hits.  The Braves were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Inciarte had a stolen base and an outfield assist. 

In the 11th inning Johnson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead and that would be the only run of the game as the Mets held on for the 1-0 victory.

The Mets have won two straight games and will finish the series with the Braves on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Mets hold on for victory over the Atlanta Braves



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 8-6 Mets.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and did not pitch well, the bullpen was very good.  Neil Walker had three hits and James Loney had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs.  Hansel Robles won his second game of the season pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out two, Antonio Bastardo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jeurys Familia picked up his 25th save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Aaron Blair lost his fifth game of the season and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and eight runs.  He walked three and struck out two.  Alexi Ogando pitched to two batters and he struck out one, Ian Krol pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Chris Withrow pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Hunter Cervenka pitched two innings walking two batters and striking out two batters. 

Curtis Granderson drew two walks, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Walker had three hits, Loney had two hits and three RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and three RBI, Matz had an RBI and Flores and Loney each hit a double.  Loney hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Cespedes had a pickoff. 

Jace Peterson had a hit, Ender Inciarte had two hits and Freddie Freeman had a hit and an RBI.  Jeff Francoeur had a hit, Nick Markakis had two hits and Adonis Garcia had a hit and two RBI.  Tyler Flowers had two hits, Brandon Snyder had a hit and three RBI and Francoeur, Markakis and Garcia each hit a double.  Snyder hit a homerun and the Braves were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Withrow had a pickoff. 

In the second Flores hit an RBI double, d'Arnaud hit an RBI ground out and it was 2-0 Mets.  In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a two run single to push the score to 4-0.  Matz hit a sac fly and it was 5-0 still in the fourth.  Loney hit a three run homerun in the fifth to extend the Mets lead to 8-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Garcia hit a two run double and the lead was cut to 8-2.  Snyder hit a three run homerun to further cut the lead to 8-5.  Freeman hit and RBI single and it was 8-6 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeat the defending World Champion Kansas City Royals



The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and left with an injury after one out in the first inning.  The bullpen did a good job for the Mets and Yoenis Cespedes and James Loney each had two hits. 

Colon pitched to one batter getting him out, Hansel Robles won his first game of the season pitching 3 2/2 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning striking out one, Addison Reed pitched an inning striking out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck ou ttwo and saved his 23rd game of the season. 

Ian Kennedy pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  Dillon Gee pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk, Luke Hochevar pitched an inning striking out one and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Loney had two hits, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Granderson hit a double.  Cabrera and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Goeddel committed an error. 

Alcides Escobar had two hits, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and Paulo Orlando had two hits.  Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Eibner had a hit and an RBI and Escobar hit a double.  The Royals were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Escobar was caught stealing. 

In the first Cabrera hit a solo homerun and in the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Eibner hit an RBI single to cut it to 2-1 but that would be the final score. 

The Mets and Royals will complete their brief two game series on Wednesday afternoon.
