New York Mets shutout the Minnesota Twins



The New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen held the lead.  James Loney had two hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six and earned his 14th game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with two walks.  Familia saved his 49th game of the season. 

Jose Berrios pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Michael Tonkin pitched an inning with a walk, Pat Dean pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Pat Light pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched to two batters and retired them both and Buddy Boshers pitched an inning and struck out two. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Jay Bruce drew a walk and TJ Rivera had a hit.  Loney had two hits, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and Loney hit a double.  Reyes and Cabrera each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cespedes committed an error and Colon had a pickoff. 

Brian Dozier hada hit, Joe Mauer drew three walks and Jorge Polanco had a hit.  Kurt Suzuki drew a walk, Berrios had a hit and the Twins were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Kepler was picked off. 

In the third Reyes and Cabrera each hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh Cespedes hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will continue their series on Saturday.

The New York Mets lose their third straight game



The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 6-1.  Steven Matz started and he pitched ok and the bullpen didn't pitch very well.  James Loney and Neil Walker led the offense with two hits each. 

Matz pitched six innings giving up ten hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts and he took his seventh loss of the season.  Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Tyler Chatwood won his tenth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and a run with four walks and four strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched giving up two hits and not recording an out, Scott Oberg pitched a perfect inning and Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Loney had two hits and an RBI and Walker had two hits.  Michael Conforto drew two walks, Matz drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza had a hit.  Loney hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Charlie Blackmon had four hits, D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk and Nolan Arenado drew a walk.  Carlos Gonzalez had two hits and four RBI, Trevor Story had a hit and Mark Reynolds had two hits and an RBI.  David Dahl had two hits, Nick Hundley had a hit and an RBI and Gonzalez and Reynolds each hit a double.  Blackmon hit two doubles and Reynolds and Gonzalez each hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  LeMahieu and Blackmon each had a stolen base. 

In the first Gonzalez hit an RBI double to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the second Loney hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Hundley hit an RBI single to give the Rockies back the lead at 2-1.  In the eighth Reynolds hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-1.  Gonzalez hit a three run homerun in the ninth to push the lead to 6-1 Rockies and that would be the final score. 

The Mets have lost three straight games and are out of the playoff picture at the moment and heading the wrong way.  The two teams will play game three on Saturday night.

The New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies behind a brilliant Jacob deGrom performance



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-0.  James Loney had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had two RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched a complete game shutout for the Mets.  He gave up one hit and one walk and struck out seven to earn his sixth win of the season. 

Zach Eflin pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  Daniel Stumpf pitched an inning giving up a hit, Andrew Bailey pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Brett Oberholtzer pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk.  Loney had two hits, Cabrera had a hit and two RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit, deGrom had a hit and Reyes hit a double.  Lagares hit a triple, Granderson and Cabrera each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Reyes and Granderson each had a stolen base. 

Ryan Howard drew a walk and Eflin had a hit.  The Phillies left one man on base and Eflin committed an error. 

In the second Lagares hit an RBI triple to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a solo homerun in the third to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Reyes hit an RBI double and the lead was now 3-0 Mets.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun in the eighth to complete the scoring at 5-0. 

The Mets took two out of three in the series and will head to Chicago to take on the Cubs beginning on Monday night.

New York Mets crush the Chicago Cubs 10-2



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 10-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did a good job.  Brandon Nimmo had two hits, Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera also had two hits and James Loney had three hits. 

deGrom pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He picked up his fourth win of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning with a strikeout, Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit, an unearned run and a walk with two strikeouts and Seth Lugo pitched two innings giving up two hits with two strikeouts. 

Jason Hammel pitched four innings giving up nine hits and ten runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He took his fifth loss of the season.  Spencer Patton pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Trevor Cahill pitched three innings giving up three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Nimmo had two hits and three RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and Cespedes had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Loney had three hits and three RBI, Cabrera had two hits and three RBI and Kelly Johnson had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Alejandro De Aza drew a walk.  Loney hit a double and a homerun, Cabrera, Nimmo and Cespedes each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 

Matt Szczur had a hit, Jason Heyward had a hit and Kris Bryant had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Willson Contreras had a hit, Javier Baez had a hit and Addison Russell had an RBI.  Cahill drew a walk, Albert Almora Jr. had a hit and Contreras hit a double and Bryant hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Bryant had a stolen base. 

In the second Loney hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Cabrera hit a solo homerun to make it a 2-0 lead.  In the third Loney hit a two run double to push the lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Bryant hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  Nimmo hit a three run homerun and the lead was 7-1.  In the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun making it 8-1.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun and it was 10-1 still in the fifth inning.  In the seventh Russell hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 10-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday night.  The Mets have taken the first two games of the series.

New York Mets hold on for victory over the Atlanta Braves



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 8-6 Mets.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and did not pitch well, the bullpen was very good.  Neil Walker had three hits and James Loney had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs.  Hansel Robles won his second game of the season pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out two, Antonio Bastardo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jeurys Familia picked up his 25th save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Aaron Blair lost his fifth game of the season and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and eight runs.  He walked three and struck out two.  Alexi Ogando pitched to two batters and he struck out one, Ian Krol pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Chris Withrow pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Hunter Cervenka pitched two innings walking two batters and striking out two batters. 

Curtis Granderson drew two walks, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Walker had three hits, Loney had two hits and three RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and three RBI, Matz had an RBI and Flores and Loney each hit a double.  Loney hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Cespedes had a pickoff. 

Jace Peterson had a hit, Ender Inciarte had two hits and Freddie Freeman had a hit and an RBI.  Jeff Francoeur had a hit, Nick Markakis had two hits and Adonis Garcia had a hit and two RBI.  Tyler Flowers had two hits, Brandon Snyder had a hit and three RBI and Francoeur, Markakis and Garcia each hit a double.  Snyder hit a homerun and the Braves were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Withrow had a pickoff. 

In the second Flores hit an RBI double, d'Arnaud hit an RBI ground out and it was 2-0 Mets.  In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a two run single to push the score to 4-0.  Matz hit a sac fly and it was 5-0 still in the fourth.  Loney hit a three run homerun in the fifth to extend the Mets lead to 8-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Garcia hit a two run double and the lead was cut to 8-2.  Snyder hit a three run homerun to further cut the lead to 8-5.  Freeman hit and RBI single and it was 8-6 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeat the defending World Champion Kansas City Royals



The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and left with an injury after one out in the first inning.  The bullpen did a good job for the Mets and Yoenis Cespedes and James Loney each had two hits. 

Colon pitched to one batter getting him out, Hansel Robles won his first game of the season pitching 3 2/2 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning striking out one, Addison Reed pitched an inning striking out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck ou ttwo and saved his 23rd game of the season. 

Ian Kennedy pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  Dillon Gee pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk, Luke Hochevar pitched an inning striking out one and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Loney had two hits, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Granderson hit a double.  Cabrera and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Goeddel committed an error. 

Alcides Escobar had two hits, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and Paulo Orlando had two hits.  Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Eibner had a hit and an RBI and Escobar hit a double.  The Royals were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Escobar was caught stealing. 

In the first Cabrera hit a solo homerun and in the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Eibner hit an RBI single to cut it to 2-1 but that would be the final score. 

The Mets and Royals will complete their brief two game series on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Mets lose second straight game to the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well.  James Loney had three hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Matz pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Jim Henderson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Reed lost his first game of the season and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Aaron Blair pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Alexi Ogando pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Dario Alvarez pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out one and Chris Withrow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Hunter Cervenka pitched to one batter and retired him and Jim Johnson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his first game of the season.

Chase d'Arnad had a hit and an RBI, Ender Inciarte had a hit and drew a walk and Freddie Freeman drew a walk.  Jeff Francoeur had a hit and an RBI, Tyler Flowers had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Snyder had a hit.  Erick Aybar drew a walk, Adonis Garcia had a hit and Flowers, Snyder and Inciarte each hit a double.  Francoeur and Flowers each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  d'Arnaud was caught stealing and Aybar committed an error.  Inciarte had an outfield assist. 

In the third Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Flores hit a solo homerun and it was 2-0 Mets.  Rivera hit a sac fly to push the Mets lead to 3-0 in the fourth.  In the fifth d'Arnaud hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and Francoeur hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut it to 3-2.  In the seventh Flowers hit a solo homerun and the game was tied at three.  Flowers was batting in the eighth and a wild pitch made it 4-3 Braves and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Mets will look to avoid an ugly sweep at the hands of the worst team in baseball.

The New York Mets win their second in a row in Miami



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-4.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen also pitched fairly well.  Wilmer Flores and James Loney each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out one.  Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a walk and Jim Henderson won his first game of the season pitching to one batter and retiring him.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits adn a run with a strikeout and he earned his 18th save of the season. 

Justin Nicolino pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Dustin McGowan pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and they struck out three and David Phelps pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Cody Hall pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with three walks. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew two walks, Juan Lagares had a hit and Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Neil Walker had a hit and drew two walks and Flores had three hits and drew a walk.  Loney had three hits and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI and Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk.  Colon had a hit, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and two RBI and Plawecki, Loney and De Aza each hit a double.  The Mets were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and Plawecki was picked off.  Plawecki committed an error. 

Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI, Christian Yelich had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Justin Bour had a hit and drew a walk.  J.T. Realmuto had two hits and drew a walk, Miguel Rojas had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Nicolino had a hit.  Cole Gillespie had a hit, Realmuto and Rojas each hit a double.  Prado hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Realmuto had a passed ball and Nicolino had a pickoff. 

In the first Prado hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nicolino reached on a force attempt error to make it 2-0 Marlins.  In the fourth Loney hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 and in the sixth Conforto hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the sixth Rojas hit an RBI double to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Conforto hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Reynolds hit an RBI single to make it 4-3 Mets.  In the ninth De Aza hit a two run double making it 6-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the ninth Yelich hit an RBI single to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets have taken the first two games of the series.  The final game will be on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets win behind their ace in Miami



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-2.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes, Wilmer Flores and James Loney each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out three and Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning. 

Tom Koehler pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his sixth game of the season.  Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Cody Hall pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI, Cespedes had two hits and Neil Walker had a hit.  Flores had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Loney had two hits and two RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit and two RBI, Syndergaard had a hit and Cespedes and Flores each hit a double.  Cabrera, Loney and Rivera each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Walker was caught stealing and Syndergaard committed an error. 

Derek Dietrich had a hit, Martin Prado had a hit and Christian Yelich had two hits.  Marcell Ozuna had a hit and two RBI, Justin Bour had a hit and Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit.  J.T. Realmuto drew a walk, Bour and Yelich each hit a double.  Ozuna hit a homerun and the Marlins were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Suzuki had two stolen bases and Realmuto had a stolen base. 

In the second Ozuna hit a solo homerun giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Ozuna hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  Loney hit a two run homerun in the seventh to give the Mets back the lead at 4-2 and Rivera would hit a two run homerun in the ninth to make it 6-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose to the Tampa Bay Rays on Old Timers Day

The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Ivan Nova was called back up from AAA and made the start. Nova pitched well and the pen was ok. The Yankees offense didn’t do much at all.

Nova pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out seven. Nova lost his second game of the season, Shawn Kelley walked the only batter that he faced, Boone Logan gave up a hit and Joba Chamberlain pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one. Preston Claiborne pitched an inning walking two and striking out one.

Brett Gardner had three hits, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Robinson Cano had an RBI and drew a walk. Travis Hafner had a hit, Zoilo Almonte had two hits and Gardner hit a double and Almonte hit two doubles. The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Suzuki had a stolen base and Romine had a passed ball.

Chris Archer won his second game of the season pitching six innings. Archer gave up six hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts. Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one, Joel Peralta pitched a perfect inning and Fernando Rodney saved his 15th game of the season. He pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.

Matt Joyce had a hit, Desmond Jennings had a hit and Ben Zobrist had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. Evan Longoria drew two walks, James Loney had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Will Myers had a hit. Kelly Johnson drew a walk; Jose Molina had two hits and drew a walk. The Rays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. Molina had a stolen base and Johnson committed an error.

Zobrist hit an RBI single in the first giving Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first Cano hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one. In the seventh Loney hit a two run single to make it a 3-1 game and that was the final score.

The teams split the four game series. The Yankees record dropped to 41-34 and the Rays record improved to 39-37. The Yankees have the day off on Monday and then begin a three game series with the Texas Rangers at home on Tuesday night.
