The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 to move to 2-0

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-2. R.A. Dickey made the start and pitched well and the bullpen did its job. Lucas Duda hit two homeruns, David Wright had a homerun and three hits and Kirk Niewenhuis had two hits in his major league debut. The Mets improved to 2-0 on the season as the Braves without Chipper Jones struggle to score runs. 
Dickey pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts. He earned his first win of the season. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Frank Francisco earned his second save in as many chances. Francisco pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two. Jair Jurrjens took the loss pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Their bullpen pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up one run and a couple of strikeouts and no walks.

Ruben Tejada drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Wright had three hits and an RBI. Ike Davis drew a walk, Jason Bay had a hit and Duda had two hits and two RBI. Josh Thole had two hits and an RBI, Nieuwenhuis had two hits and Dickey had a hit. Justin Turner had a hit, Thole had a double, Duda had two homeruns and Wright had one homerun. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. Thole had a passed ball.

Michael Bourn had two hits and drew a walk for the Braves. Martin Prado had a hit and two RBI, Dan Uggla drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had two hits. Jayson Heyward had a hit and drew two walks and Eric Hinske had a hit. Bourn had a double, Heyward had a triple and Prado had a homerun. The Braves were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. McCann had a passed ball.

The Mets improved to 2-0 and the Braves dropped to 0-2. The two teams will meet in the finale of the three game series on Sunday afternoon. The game will be at 1:10pm. Jon Niese will make his first start of the season against Mike Minor.
