The New York Yankees lose 2-0 to the Toronto Blue Jays and lose Curtis Granderson

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon in Tampa, Florida. They lost 2-0 but lost more then that when Curtis Granderson got hit by a pitch. He broke his forearm and will be out for approximately 10 weeks. The Yankees will look for internal options right now. They have Juan Rivera and Matt Diaz in camp as veterans who could possibly fill in and they have a couple of minor leaguers who are possibilities. The Yankees could also possibly swing a trade for someone like Alfonso Soriano. We will see what happens in the coming days and weeks.
Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched two impressive innings. He gave up no runs on no hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Cody Eppley took the loss pitching one inning with two hits and one run with no walks and a strikeout, Matt Daley pitched an inning giving up a hit and two strikeouts and Francisco Rondon pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit. Preston Claiborne pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits with two strikeouts, Juan Cedeno pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Jim Miller pitched an inning striking out one.

Brett Gardner, Adonis Garcia, Ichiro Suzuki, Thomas Neal, Robinson Cano, Jayson Nix, Mark Teixeira, Ronnier Mustelier, Travis Hafner, Gary Sanchez and Chris Stewart each had a hit. Hafner hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base. Neal had a stolen base. Stewart had a passed ball and Garcia had an outfield assist as the minor league outfielders continue to show something.

J.A. Happ got the win for the Blue Jays pitching two innings and giving up no hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts. Brett Cecil pitched two innings giving up three hits and striking out two, Justin Germano pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Cladio Vargas pitched two innings giving up three hits and striking out one. Rich Thompson picked up a save pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk.

Anthony Gose had a hit, Emilio Bonifacio had a hit and an RBI and Moises Sierra had a hit. Brett Lawrie had a hit, Sean Ochinko had a hit and an RBI and Luis Jimenez had a hit. Ryan Langerhans had a hit and Lance Zawadzki had two hits. Lawrie, Zawadzki and Ochinko each hit a double. Gose hit a triple and the Blue Jays were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Langerhans was caught stealing and Zawadzki committed an error.

The Blue Jays record improved to 2-1 and the Yankees dropped to 1-1 in grapefruit play. The Yankees will play at Baltimore and the Blue Jays will host the Boston Red Sox.
