The New York Mets lose a close one as Harvey continues to get no run support

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon. The final score of the game was 2-1 and it took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey was on the mound and pitched well. David Wright led the Mets offense with three hits.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run. Harvey walked one and struck out seven and lost his first game of the season. Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, LaTroy Hawkins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Wright had three hits, Daniel Murphy drew a walk and Marlon Byrd had two hits and an RBI. John Buck had two hits, Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk and Buck hit a double. Byrd hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Rice had a pickoff.

Adam Wainwright won his 10th game of the season pitching seven shutout innings. He gave up four hits and two walks with strikeouts. Trevor Rosenthal pitched an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout and Edward Mujica saved his 19th game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.

Carpenter had two hits and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had two hits and Matt Holliday had a hit. Allen Craig had two hits and an RBI, Yadier Molina drew a walk and Kozma had three hits. Kozma hit a double and Carpenter hit a triple. The Cardinals were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Carpenter was picked off.

In the third Carpenter hit an RBI triple giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. In the eighth Craig hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. Byrd hit a solo homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.

The Mets record fell to 24-37 and the Cardinals record improved to 43-23. The Mets will host the Chicago Cubs for a three game series beginning on Friday night
