The New York Yankees are shutout by Chris Archer and the Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 1-0 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and was excellent but the Yankees offense couldn’t get anything going. The Yankees managed two hits.

Nova pitched seven innings giving up one run on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Brett Gardner and Lyle Overbay each had a hit. Gardner hit a double and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.

Chris Archer won his sixth game pitching a complete game two hit shutout. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.

Desmond Jennings had a hit, Evan Longoria had a hit and Will Myers had a hit. James Loney had two hits and drew a walk, Ben Zobrist had a hit and Matt Joyce drew a walk. Kelley Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Jose Molina drew a walk and Yunel Escobar had a hit. Myers and Escobar each hit a double and the Rays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Zobrist had a stolen base and Longoria committed an error.

The only run of the game was scored in the sixth inning. Johnson hit an RBI single. The Yankees didn’t even come close to scoring and the Rays did a little more but not that much off of Yankees pitching either.

The Yankees have now lost two in a row and will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees record fell to 54-40 and the Rays record improved to 62-42.
