The New York Yankees shutout the Los Angeles Dodgers to earn split in series


The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night. The final score was 3-0 and the game was played at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and was great as he usually is. The Yankees offense didn’t do much against Clayton Kershaw but Lyle Overbay got the big hit which turned out to be the game winner.

Kuroda pitched seven shutout innings giving up five hits and a walk. He struck out eight batters. Boone Logan pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect inning to earn the save.

Derek Jeter drew a walk, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and Vernon Wells had a hit. Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk, Brent Lillibridge had a hit and Overbay had a hit and an RBI. Chris Stewart had a hit, Melky Mesa had a pinch-hit and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Soriano was caught stealing and Wells had an outfield assist.

Clayton Kershaw pitched eight innings giving up no runs and five hits. He walked none and struck out five. Ronald Belisario pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two runs and one of them earned with two walks, Paco Rodriguez gave up a hit and an unearned run and Brandon League pitched to one batter and retired him.

Yasuil Puig drew a walk, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and Andre Ethier had two hits. A.J. Ellis had two hits, Skip Schumaker drew a walk and Juan Uribe had a hit. The Dodgers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Ellis committed an error and Kershaw had a pickoff.

In the ninth Overbay had an RBI single and Nix reached on a fielding error, which allowed two runs to score.

The Yankees ended up splitting the brief two game series in Los Angeles. The Yankees record improved to 56-51 and the Dodgers record fell to 57-49. The Yankees will have the day off on Thursday and then play a three game series in San Diego over the weekend.
