The New York Mets shutout the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched great, the Mets only had six hits and no player had more than one.  Chris Young did hit a two run homerun. 

Gee pitched eight innings to pick up his second win of the season.  He gave up three hits and no runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Koehler pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Koehler lost his second game of the season.  Capps pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk.  Young had a hit and two RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Recker had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, Gee drew a walk and Duda and Wright each hit a double.  Young hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base. 

Yelich drew a walk, Ozuna had a hit and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit and drew two walks, Garrett Jones had a hit and the Marlins were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jones committed an error. 

In the second inning Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Wright hit an RBI double and Young hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 4-0 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will start a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
