The New York Mets are brought down in Colorado



The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.  The final score was 7-4 and the game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and wasn't very good.  Juan Lagares and Chris Young led the offense with a couple of hits each. 

Colon pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fourth game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and struck him out, Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three and Jose Valverde pitched an inning striking out two. 

Juan Nicasio pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out two and earned his third win of the season.  Chad Bettis pitched two innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk. 

Lagares had two hits and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Young had two hits.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and three RBI and Eric Young Jr. drew a walk.  Bobby Abreu drew a walk, Lagares hit two doubles and d'Arnaud hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young had a stolen base, Duda committed an error and d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 

Charlie Blackmon had a hit and an RBI, Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI.  Troy Tulowitzki had two hits, Justin Morneau had a hit and Wilin Rosario drew a walk.  Corey Dickerson had three hits and an RBI, Charlie Culberson had a hit and Nicasio had a hit and three RBI.  Tulowitzki hit a double, Dickerson hit a triple and Gonzalez hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Gonzalez hit a solo homerun to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nicasio hit a two run single to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Nicasio hit a sacrifice fly, Blackmon hit an RBI single and Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.  In the fifth Dickerson hit an RBI triple to extend the Rockies lead to 7-0.  Lagares hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-1 in the eighth inning and in the ninth d'Arnaud hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 7-4 which was the final score. 

The Mets won the first of four games in this series.  The two teams will meet on Friday night in game two of the series.
