The New York Yankees win in Derek Jeter's final home opener

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon.  The game took place

at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the

Yankees and pitched well.  The bullpen also pitched well as they used four relievers.  Alfonso

Soriano had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury also had a couple of hits. 

Kuroda pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.  It was the fourth straight game that a Yankees starter didn't allow a walk.  Matt Thornton faced one batter and retired him, David Phelps faced one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched an inning walking a batter and striking out two.  Shawn Kelley picked up his first save pitching a 1-2-3 inning. 

Ubaldo Jimenez started for the Orioles and took the loss.  He pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Zach Britton pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out two and Ryan Webb pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter had a hit and Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk, Soriano had two hits and drew a walk and Brian Roberts drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had an RBI and drew two walks and Yangervis Solarte had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. 

Jeter hit a double and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and had an outfield assist.  McCann had a pickoff at second base. 

David Lough drew a walk, Nick Markakis had a hit and Adam Jones had a hit.  Chris Davis had a hit, Matt Wieters had two hits and an RBI and Nelson Cruz had two hits and an RBI.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit which was a double, Markakis hit a double and Davis hit a double.  The Orioles were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Schoop was picked off of second base. 

In the third Jeter grounded into a double play and a run scored to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Wieters hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  The Yankees answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a run.  Solarte hit an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit an RBI single and Johnson had an RBI walk to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  The Orioles would cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh on a Cruz RBI single but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won four out of their last five.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday afternoon.  Ivan Nova will make the start for the Yankees.
