The New York mets win another extra inning game with the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park and the final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.  Jon Niese started and pitched well and the bullpen held the lead.  Eric Campbell had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched eight innings giving up eight hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Scott Rice faced one batter and retired him, Vic Black retired both batters that he faced and Josh Edgin picked up his first win of the season.  Edgin pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Jennry Mejia picked up his sixth save.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Cole Hamels pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them earned.  He walked four and struck out eight, Cesar Jimenez pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning with a strikeout and Justin De Fratus pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Phillippe Aumont pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Aumont lost his first game of the season. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Campbell had two hits.  Chris Young had a hit and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had three walks, Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI.  Wright and Campbell each hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and Tejada was caught stealing.  Young had an outfield assist. 

Ben Revere had a hit and drew a walk, Jimmy Rollins had a hit and Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Ruiz had two hits, Ryan Howard had a hit and two RBI and Cesar Hernandez had a hit.  Hamels had a hit, Dominic Brown had a hit and Ruiz hit a double.  Howard and Byrd each hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rollins and Reid Brignac each committed an error. 

In the fourth Young hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Howard hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Granderson hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.  Duda hit a two run homerun in the 11th to give the Mets a 4-2 lead and in the bottom of the 11th Byrd hit a solo homerun to make it 4-3 and that was the final score.  The Mets have won three out of the first four and the final game of the series will be on Monday night.
