New York Yankees roar back to beat the Mets in extra innings

 The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Sunday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-7 in extra innings in game one of the doubleheader.  Mike King started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Luke Voit led the offense with two hits and two RBI. 

King pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Brooks Kriske pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts, Ben Heller pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts and Chad Green picked up his third win of the season pitching an inning with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Rick Porcello pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Jared Hughes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and four unearned runs with a walk and Edwin Diaz lost his first game of the season and blew his fourth save of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out none. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Voit had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Tauchman had an RBI and drew a walk, Mike Ford had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Wade had a hit and drew a walk, Voit and Ford each hit a double and Hicks hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Michael Conforto had two hits and two RBI and J.D. Davis had a hit.  Dom Smith had a hit and drew a walk, Robinson Cano had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Pete Alonso had a hit and two RBI.  Jeff McNeil had a hit, Wilson Ramos had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Andres Gimenez drew two walks.  Smith and Conforto each hit a double and Cano hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Gimenez committed an error. 

In the first Tauchman hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Alonso hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Ramos hit an RBI single and it was 2-1 Mets.  In the fourth Ford hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Cano hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.  In the sixth Conforto hit a two-run double to extend the Mets lead to 6-2.  Alonso was hit by a pitch and it was 7-2 Mets.  In the bottom of the seventh Voit hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 7-4.  A wild pitch made it 7-5 and Hicks hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at seven.  In the eighth Urshela hit a walk-off single to give the Yankees a 8-7 victory.

New York Mets lose a close one to the Washington Nationals

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Rick Porcello started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  J.D. Davis and Luis Guillorme led the offense with two hits each. 

Porcello lost his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out five.  Jared Hughes pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Max Scherzer won his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Javy Guerra pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Tanner Rainey pitched 1 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts and Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Davis had two hits.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Dom Smith drew a walk and Andres Gimenez had a hit.  Guillorme had two hits and an RBI and he hit a double and a triple.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Nimmo had an outfield assist. 

Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI, Howie Kendrick had three hits and Eric Thames had a hit.  Kurt Suzuki had a hit, Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI and Turner hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Turner hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Robles hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Guillorme hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets lose a wild high scoring game to the Braves

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at

Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 11-10.  Rick Porcello started for the Mets and

he wasn't great and the bullpen was bad.  Robinson Cano had three hits and Brandon Nimmo, J.D.

Davis and Andres Gimenez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Porcello pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with three being earned.  He walked

three and struck out five.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Chasen Shreve

pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and five strikeouts and Dellin Betances

pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Seth

Lugo lost his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk.

Sean Newcomb pitched 4 1/3  innings giving up six hits and six runs with a walk and four strikeouts.

Jhoulys Chacin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and two

strikeouts.  Tyler Matzek pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Grant Dayton pitched an

inning giving up a hit and struck out two and won his first game of the season.  Chris Martin earned

his first save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and struck out one.

Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, Nimmo had two hits and Pete Alonso had an RBI and drew two

walks and Davis had two hits and three RBI.  Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk,

Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and two RBI and Robinson Cano had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk.

Wilson Ramos had a hit, Andres Gimenez had two hits, Cespedes hit a double and DAvis, Cano and

Rosario each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven

men on base.  Nimmo had a stolen base and Davis and Cano each committed an error. 

Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, Dansby Swanson had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Freddie

Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and Ender Inciarte drew two walks.  Acuna Jr., Adams, Swanson and

d'Arnaud each hit a double and the Braves were 6-19 with runners in scoring position and left 8 men

on base.  d'Arnaud, Inciarte and Swanson each had a stolen base.  d'Arnaud  committed an error. 

In the first Adams hit an RBI single, d'Arnaud hit an RBI single and the Braves had a 2-0 lead.  In

the fourth Davis hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Cano hit a solo homerun

and the Mets grabbed a 3-2 lead.  Alonso had an RBI walk and it was 4-2 Mets.  Conforto had an

RBI walk and the lead extended to 5-2.  Cespedes hit a two-run double and it was 7-2.  Cano hit an

RBI single to make it an 8-2 game.  In the fifth Adams hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-3,

d'Arnaud hit an RBI single and Riley hit an RBI groundout to make it 8-5.  In the sixth Rosario

hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 9-5.  Davis hit an RBI single and it was 10-5.  In the bottom of

the sixth Swanson hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 10-6.  In the eighth Swanson hit an RBI

double making it 10-7.  Freeman drew an RBI walk and the lead was down to 10-8.  d'Arnaud hit a

three-run double to give the Braves a 11-10 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

New York Yankees win a wild slugfest in London over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in London, England and the final score was 17-13.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Luke Voit had four hits and DJ LeMahieu had four hits to lead the offense which there was plenty of. 

Tanaka pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and six runs.  He walked two.  Chad Green won his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up four hits and no runs with a strikeout, David Hale pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with three strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and he didn’t record an out, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he walked one and Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Rick Porcello pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and six runs with a walk.  Colten Brewer pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Steven Wright took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a  walk and two strikeouts and Mike Shawaryn pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up six hits and eight runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Josh Taylor pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect inning and Hector Velasquez pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

LeMahieu had four hits and five RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Voit had four hits and an RBI, Gio Urshela had a hit and Didi Gregorius had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and drew two walks.  Brett Gardner had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Voit hit three doubles and Gregorius, Encarnacion, LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double.  Hicks, Gardner and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 9-18 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Mookie Betts had a hit and drew two walks, Rafael Devers had two hits and an RBI and Marco Hernandez had a hit and an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit and drew two walks, J.D. Martinez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Christian Vasquez had a hit and an RBI.  Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Sandy Leon had two hits and Michael Chavis had two hits, six RBI and drew a walk.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had four hits and an RBI, Devers hit two doubles and Martinez hit a double.  Chavis hit two homeruns and Bradley Jr. hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the first Voit hit an RBI double, Gregorius hit a two-run double and Encarnacion hit an RBI double.  Hicks hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the first Devers hit an RBI double, Vasquez hit a sac fly and Holt an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-3.  Chavis hit a three-run homerun and the game was tied at six.  In the third Gardner hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees back the lead at 8-6.  In the fourth Gardner drew an RBI walk and LeMahieu hit a three-run double to push the Yankees lead to 12-6.  Judge hit a two-run homerun and it was 14-6.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single and LeMahieu hit a two-run single to make it a 17-6 game.  In the sixth Bradley Jr. hit a solo homerun and in the seventh Chavis hit a three-run homerun and Hernandez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 17-11.  Bogaerts drew an RBI walk and Martinez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 17-13 but that would be the final score. 

The game was the first baseball game in England and they will play game two of the two game series on Sunday morning American time.

New York Yankees get doubled up by the Boston Red Sox to drop series


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 6-3.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he wasn’t very good, the bullpen pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed four hits but Sanchez had three RBI. 

Gray pitched three innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked two and struck out three and took his first loss of the season.  Domingo German pitched three innings giving up a hit and struck out three, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Rick Porcello won his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and no runs with six strikeouts.  Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned and he walked two and struck out two and Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Didi Gregorius drew a walk.  Sanchez had a hit and three RBI, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and Judge, Torreyes and Sanchez each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Stanton had a stolen base and Wade committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had two RBI, Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI and Mitch Moreland had two hits and an RBI.  Eduardo Nunez had two hits, Tzu-Wei Lin drew a walk and Jackie Bradley Jr.  had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.   Sandy Leon had a hit and an RBI, Brock Holt drew a walk and Nunez and Bradley Jr. each hit a double.  The Red Sox were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Devers committed an error. 

In the second Leon hit an RBI single, Betts hit a sac fly, Benintendi reached on a fielder’s choice and Moreland hit an RBI single giving Boston a 4-0 lead.  In the third Bradley Jr. hit an RBI double to push their lead to 5-0.  Betts hit an RBI ground out and it was 6-0.  In the ninth Sanchez hit a three-run double to cut the lead to 6-3 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three games to Boston and will now head to Detroit for a three-game series that begins on Friday night.

New York Yankees lose in Boston as tempers flare



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 5-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well but the bullpen did.  Brett Gardner had three hits and Chase Headley had two hits. 

Severino pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out three and lost his seventh game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Anthony Swarzak pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Rick Porcello won his 15th game of the season pitching eight innings and he gave up seven hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Craig Kimbrel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and four walks with a strikeout and Matt Barnes pitched 1/3 of an inning and struck out a batter. 

Gardner had three hits and drew a walk, Jacboy Ellsbury had an RBI and drew two walks and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Castro hit a double and Headley and Gardner hit two doubles each.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Dustin Pedroia had two hits and three RBI and David Ortiz had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit, Sandy Leon had a hit and Andrew Benintendi had three hits and an RBI.  Betts, and Benintendi each hit a double and Pedroia hit two doubles.  Leon hit a triple and the Red Sox were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Shaw committed an error and Leon had a passed ball.  Bradley Jr. had an outfield assist. 

In the second Headley hit an RBI double, in the third McCann hit an RBI single and it was 2-0 Yankees.  Pedroia hit a two run double in the bottom of the third to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the fifth Benintendi hit an RBI double to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead.  Pedroia hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the fifth Ortiz hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-2.  In the ninth Ellsbury had an RBI walk to cut the lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees hold on for a tense win against the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the  Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and after a rocky start pitched well, the bullpen was good.  Aaron Hicks had a big homerun for the game winning hit. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up two hits and eight hits.  He walked one and struck out four.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Kirby Yates earned his first win of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and striking out one and Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Andrew Miller earned his sixth save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up three htis and a walk with four strikeouts. 

Rick Porcello pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up a walk. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Dustin Ackley had a hit and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Ronald Torreyes drew a walk and McCann and Gardner each hit a double.  Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Gardner had a stolen base. 

Mookie Betts drew a walk, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and Xander Bogaerts had two hits.  David Ortiez had a hit and two RBI, Hanley Ramirez had two hits and Travis Shaw had three hits and Brock Holt had a hit.  Chris Young drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and Christian Vasquez had a hit.  Jeff Rutledge had a pinch hit, Bogaerts and Vasquez each hit a double.  Ortiz hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Bogaerts and Betts each had a stolen base.  Bradley had an outfield assist. 

In the first Ortiz hit a two run homerun giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first McCann hit an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game.  In the second Ackley hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Hicks hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  It was a crazy ending as both the Red Sox manager and Ortiz were tossed over arguing balls and strikes.  The rivalry had some juice in it tonight.  Ellsbury left the game with a strained hip and is day to day and Miller and Betances will not be available tomorrow.

The New York Yankees lose second straight to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-4.  Michael Pineda started and had a terrible first inning before settling down but it was too late.  The Yankees offense had a great first inning and then didn't do much of anything after that. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Pineda lost his ninth game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Rick Porcello won his ninth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jean Machi pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had two hits and Brian McCann had an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Dustin Ackley had a hit and two RBI and Chase Headley had a hit.  Greg Bird had a hit, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Ellsbury hit a double and Beltran hit a double.  Ackley hit a homerun adn the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Ackley committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Dustin Pedroia had two hits and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and an RBI.  David Ortiz had a hit, Josh Rutledge drew a walk and Travis Shaw had an RBI.  Brock Holt had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Blake Swihart had two hits and five RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Betts, Ortiz, Holt and Bradley Jr. each hit a double and Swihart hit two homeruns.  Betts also hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 4-10 with runners in scoring position an dleft four men on base.  Bogaerts committed an error. 

In the first Bogaerts grounded into a force out and a run scored.  Shaw reached on a fielder's choice and  a run scored to make it 2-0, Holt hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 and Swihart hit a three run homerun and the Red Sox had a 6-0 lead before the Yankees even got up to bat.  In the Yankees first McCann hit an RBI groundout, Beltran hit an RBI double and Ackley hit a two run homerun and it was 6-4 Red Sox.  In the fifth Betts hit a solo homerun to make it 7-4.  In the eighth Swihart hit a two run homerun to make it 9-4 Red Sox and in the ninth Rutledge grounded into a force out to make it 10-4 which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at five in Detroit



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 5-2.  Brandon McCarthy wasn't sharp and the Yankees offense was Jacoby Ellsbury who had three hits including two homeruns.

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his 13th game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three. 

Rick Porcello won his 15th game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up two runs.  He gave up nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Joe Nathan earned his 28th save of the season pitching a 1-2-3 inning.  Nathan had one strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and two RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Ellsbury hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  

Tori Hunter had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Victor Martinez had a hit.  J.D. Martinez had three hits and an RBI, Nick Castellanos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rajai Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hunter, Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Davis each hit a double.  The Tigers were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Davis had an RBI walk to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the third J.D. Martinez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Ellsbury hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be as close as the Yankees would get.  In the sixth Castellanos hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and Avila grounded into a double play with another run scoring to make it 4-1.  The Tigers added a fifth run in the seventh on a Hunter RBI single.  Ellsbury hit another solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-2.  The Yankees win streak comes to an end at five.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.
