The New York Mets are handled by the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and didn't pitch very well.  Matt den Dekker had two hits to lead the offense who only managed five hits. 

Colon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out two and lost his 11th game of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Dana Eveland pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Jerome Williams won his fifth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Justin De Fratus pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Antonio Bastardo pitched to one batter and struck him out and Ken Giles pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares had an RBI and drew a walk, David Wright drew two walks and Lucas Duda had a hit.  den Dekker had two hits, Delson Herrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, the Mets were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Ben Revere had a hit, Jimmy Rollins had two hits and drew a walk and Chase Utley had a hit.  Ryan Howard had a hit and three RBI, Marlon Byrd had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Dominick Brown had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Ruiz had two hits and an RBI, Cody Asche had three hits and an RBI and Grady Sizemore drew a walk.  Asche, Rollins and Ruiz each hit a double and Byrd hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rollins had a stolen base. 

In the fifth Byrd hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Howard hit a two run single, Brown hit an RBI single, Ruiz hit an RBI single and Asche hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 6-0 lead.  In the seventh Flores hit an RBI single and Lagares drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 6-2.  The Phillies added a run in the ninth on a Howard sacrifice fly to make it 7-2 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves behind Zack Wheeler


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. The final score was 5-3 and the game was played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well. Ike Davis and Marlon Byrd each hit a homerun.

Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts. He won his sixth game of the season, Carlos Torres gave up a hit and didn’t record an out, Scott Rice retired the only batter that he faced and Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up a hit. LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning and had a strikeout. Hawkins earned his fifth save of the season.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Byrd had a hit and two RBI. Davis had two hits and two RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Andrew Brown had a hit and d’Arnaud hit a double. Byrd and Davis each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Young had two stolen bases and Murphy had a stolen base. Quintanilla committed an error.

Brandon Beachy lost his first game pitching six innings and giving up five hits and four runs with three of them earned. He walked none and struck out four. David Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout; Scott Downs pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Ayala pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.

Jason Heyward drew a walk, Andrelton Simmons had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had two hits. Brian McCann had a hit, Chris Johnson had a hit and Jordan Schafer had a hit. Paul Janish had a hit, Beachy had a hit and Terdoslavich drew a walk. Janish and Simmons each hit a double and the Braves were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Davis hit an RBI single in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the sixth Young stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Byrd hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Mets. Simmons hit a three run double in the seventh to make it a 4-3 Mets lead. The Mets scored the final run of the game in the eighth on a Davis solo homerun. The Mets won the game by the final score of 5-3.

The Mets record improved to 58-66 and the Braves record fell to 76-49. The two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Mets bounce back from a tough series with a victory in San Diego


The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. The final score was 4-1 and the game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen did its job. Marlon Byrd and Josh Satin led the offense.

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up one run and seven hits. He walked one and struck out 12. Scott Atchison won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning and Gonzalez Germen saved his first game of the season pitching two innings and giving up two walks and striking out three.

Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk, Byrd had two hits and two RBI and Ike Davis drew a walk. Satin had two hits and an RBI, John Buck had a hit and an RBI and Wheeler had a hit. Byrd hit a double and Buck hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Baxter had a stolen base and Lagares had an outfield assist.

Tyson Ross pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with eight strikeouts. Luke Gregerson lost his seventh game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Nick Vincent pitched to one batter and retired him and Tim Stauffer pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run.

Will Venable had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Yonder Alonso had a hit and drew two walks. Chris Denorfia had two hits and drew a walk, Jaff Decker had an RBI and Rene Rivera had a hit. Ross had a hit, Denorfia hit a double and Rivera hit a triple. The Padres were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Satin hit an RBI single in the fourth giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Padres tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Decker sacrifice fly. In the eighth Byrd hit a two run double giving the Mets a 3-1 lead and then they tacked on another run in the ninth. Buck hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 and that was the final score.

The Mets record improved to 55-64 and the Padres record dropped to 54-67. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Friday night.

The New York Mets sweep the San Francisco Giants


The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 7-2 and the game took place at AT+T Park in San Francisco, California. Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well and Marlon Byrd hit another homerun.

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked three and struck out five and earned his third win of the season. Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Eric Young Jr. drew two walks, Daniel Murphy had two hits and two RBI and David Wright had a hit and drew a walk. Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Byrd had a hit and two RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk. John Buck had two hits and two RBI, Omar Quintanilla drew a walk and Wheeler had a hit and an RBI. Buck, Wheeler and Murphy each hit a double and Byrd hit a homerun. The Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Young Jr. had a stolen base.

Matt Cain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out one and lost his sixth game of the season. Mike Kickham pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and six strikeouts, George Kontos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeremy Affeldt pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Javier Lopez gave up a hit and struck out one in one inning of work.

Kensuke Tanaka had a hit, Buster Posey had a hit and Pablo Sandoval had a hit and drew a walk. Brandon Belt had a hit and drew two walks, Tony Abreu had an RBI and Brandon Crawford had two hits and an RBI. Belt hit a triple and the Giants were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Posey and Crawford each committed an error.

In the first the Mets took a 3-0 lead. Murphy hit an RBI single and Buck hit a two run single. Byrd hit a two run homerun in the fifth to make it a 5-0 game and in the sixth they made it 7-0. Wheeler and Murphy each hit an RBI double. In the seventh Crawford hit an RBI single and in the ninth Abreu hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2. 7-2 would be the final score.

The Mets won their third straight sweeping the series. The Mets record improved to 40-48 and the Giants record fell to 40-50. The Mets will have off on Thursday and then begin a three game weekend series in Pittsburgh.

The New York Mets win makeup game in Colorado

The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night. The final score was 3-2 and the game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good. Marlon Byrd had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense.

Hefner pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out three. LaTroy Hawkins won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning. He struck out two batters, Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out two and Bobby Parnell saved his 14th game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Omar Quintanilla drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had two hits. Byrd had two hits and two RBI, Josh Satin had a hit and drew a walk, Zach Lutz had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit. Hefner had an RBI, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and Byrd hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Murphy had a stolen base, Satin committed an error and Byrd had an outfield assist. Rice had a pickoff.

Tyler Chatwood pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and two strikeouts. Rob Scahill pitched an inning givin up a hit, Matt Belisle pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts. Belisle lost his fifth game of the season and Rex Brothers pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Chris Dickerson drew a walk, Rutledge had a hit and Michael Cuddyer had three hits. Rosario had two hits, Todd Helton had an RBI, Herrera had a hit. LeMahieu had a hit, Rosario hit a double and the Rockies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. LeMahieu was picked off.

Helton hit a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 1-0 Rockies. Arenado grounded out scoring another run and making it 2-0. In the fifth the Mets cut the lead in half with a groundout by Hefner. Byrd hit a two run homerun in the eighth giving the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Mets record improved to 32-43 and the Rockies record dropped to 39-41. This was a one game makeup from earlier in the year. The Mets will return home to take on the Washington Nationals

The Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves 6-1 in the nightcap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 6-1 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. Zack Wheeler started and was good, his command wasn’t great. Marlon Byrd led the offense with three hits and three players had two hits.

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs. He walked five and struck out seven and earned his first win of the season and career. Brandon Lyon pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, David Aardsma pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one.

Colin Cowgill had two hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had two hits. Byrd had three hits, Josh Satin had a hit and drew two walks and Recker had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI; Omar Quintanilla had two hits and two RBI. Jordany Valdespin drew a walk, Wright and Byrd each hit a double and Recker hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Murphy and Byrd each had a stolen base. Recker committed an error.

Paul Maholm pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and two runs with seven strikeouts. Maholm lost his sixth game of the season, Anthony Varvaro pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and Cory Gearrin pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks and he struck out two batters.

Recker hit a two run homerun in the seventh to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Justin Upton hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. Byrd scored a run in the eighth on a throwing error, Lagares hit an RBI single and Quintanilla hit a two run single to make it a 6-1 game.

The two teams will play their fifth and final game of the series on Wednesday night. The Mets record improved to 27-40 and the Braves record dropped to 42-30. 

The New York Mets sweep a doubleheader in Atlanta

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves by the scores of 4-3 and 6-1. The games took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a day for the Mets future as Matt Harvey pitched the day game and was great and then Zach Wheeler made his major league debut at night and pitched well. Daniel Murphy and Marlon Byrd led the offense in the day game. In the nightcap Byrd led the offense with three hits but three other players had two hits each.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and three runs with three walks and 13 strikeouts. Harvey won his sixth game of the season, LaTroy Hawkins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout, Scott Rice gave up a hit and a walk and didn’t record an out and Bobby Parnell saved his 10th game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two.

Colin Cowgill drew a walk, Murphy had two hits and David Wright drew a walk. Byrd had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Lucas Duda drew two walks and John Buck had a hit and an RBI. Juan Lagares had a hit, Jordany Valdespin had an RBI and drew a walk and Omar Quintanilla had a hit and an RBI. Byrd hit a double and Buck hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Alex Wood started for the Braves and took the loss his first of the season. Wood pitched three innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts. Cory Rasmus pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts, Cory Gearrin pitched an inning giving up a hit and drew a walk and David Carpenter pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Jordan Walden pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Jordan Schafer had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Jason Heyward had two hits and an RBI and Freddie Freeman drew a walk. Brandon Laird drew a walk, Dan Uggla had two hits and drew a walk and Simmons had a hit. Heyward hit a double and the Braves were 3-7 and left six men on base. Heyward was caught stealing and Freeman committed an error.

In the third Byrd hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Buck hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it a 2-0 game. Valdespin had an RBI walk in the eighth and Quintanilla had a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 game. Schafer hit a two run single in the bottom of the eighth and Heyward hit an RBI double to make it 4-3 but that would be the final score.

The New York Mets win and take the series from the Miami Marlins in dramatic fashion

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Aaron Laffey started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch great but he also was able to limit the damage. The Mets bullpen was great and Daniel Murphy led the offense with a multiple hit game. Marlon Byrd provided the game winning hit. 
Laffey pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Greg Burke pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out three, Josh Edgin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Scott Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Scott Rice earned his first win pitching an inning giving up two walks.

Murphy had two hits and an RBI, David Wright drew two walks and Ike Davis drew a walk. Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit. Byrd had a hit and two RBI, Recker hit a double and Murphy hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Jose Fernandez pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts. A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Jon Rauch pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. Steve Cishek blew a save and took the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs.

Juan Pierre had a hit, Donovan Solano had three hits and an RBI and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk. Gregg Dobbs had two hits and drew a walk, Justin Ruggiano had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Rob Brantly had a hit. Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and drew a walk, Chris Valaika had two hits and an RBI, Ruggiano, Valaika, Solano, and Brantly each hit a double. The Marlins were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

In the third Ruggiano hit an RBI double to give Miami the 1-0 lead. Miami took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Valaika hit an RBI double and Solano hit an RBI double. Recker hit an RBI double for the Mets in the fifth to make it 3-1 Marlins. In the sixth Murphy hit a solo homerun to make it a 3-2 game. In the ninth Byrd hit a two run single to make it 4-3 Mets and win the game in walkoff fashion.

The Mets won the series two out of three and are now 4-2 on the season. The Marlins record dropped to 1-5. The Mets will play at Philadelphia on Monday night and the Marlins will be home to host the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.

The New York Mets defeat the Houston Astros 6-2

The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 6-2 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Jon Niese made the start in his final tune-up before Opening Day and pitched well. The bullpen was pretty good. Marlon Byrd and John Buck led the Mets offense. 
Niese pitched 4 1/3 innings picking up the win. He gave up two hits and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts, Scott Rice pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and two strikeouts, Pedro Feliciano pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out one and Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning striking out the side.

Jordany Valdespin had two hits, Josh Rodriguez had an RBI and drew a walk and Colin Cowgill drew a walk. Ike Davis had two hits, Byrd had two hits and three RBI and Dustin Lawley had a hit. Buck had three hits, Zach Lutz had two hits and an RBI and Ruben Tejada drew a walk. Byrd, Lutz, Lawley and Davis each hit a double and Byrd hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Valdespin committed an error and Rice had a pickoff.

Edgar Gonzalez took the loss pitching three innings and giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Rhiner Cruz pitched an inning giving up two hits, Jose Veras pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts and Xavier Cedeno pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. Hector Ambriz pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Colton Cain pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout.

Brandon Barnes drew a walk, Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Laird had a hit. Matt Dominguez drew a walk, George Springer drew a walk and Jason Jaramillo had a hit. Delino Deshields drew a walk and the Astros were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Correa had a stolen base and Barnes was caught stealing, Correa committed an error.

Byrd grounded into a double play in the first inning and a run scored giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Byrd hit a two run double in the third to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. Byrd hit a solo homerun and Lutz hit an RBI double in the sixth and it was 5-0 Mets. The Astros broke through in the eighth and scored their only two runs. Correa grounded out to score a run and a wild pitch scored the second run. The Mets scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Rodriguez had an RBI walk and the final score was 6-2 Mets.

The Mets record improved to 14-13 on the spring and the Astros record fell to 13-15. The Mets will play at the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon and Houston will play at Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Mets lose 4-2 to the Atlanta Braves

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves by the score of 4-2 on Monday afternoon. The game was played at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and pitched three good innings. Jeurys Familia and Bobby Parnell also pitched well. Marlon Byrd had a hit and a couple of RBI. 
Hefner pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts. Rafael Montero pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and Darin Gorski pitched one inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts. Gorski took the loss, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Matthew den Dekker had a hit, Colin Cowgill had a hit and Ike Davis had a hit. Byrd had a hit and two RBI, Mike Baxter had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit. Anthony Recker had a hit and Justin Turner had a hit, Davis and d’Arnaud each hit a double. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Dekker had a stolen base, Cowgill and Turner were each caught stealing. Tovar committed an error and Duda had an outfield assist.

Tim Hudson started for the Braves and pitched four innings giving up six hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out two. Luis Avilan pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, David Carpenter got the win pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts and David Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Alex Wood picked up the save pitching an inning giving up a hit, walking and striking out a batter.

Justin Upton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Evan Gattis had a hit and Joey Terdoslavich had a hit. Juan Francisco had a hit, Joe Leonard had an RBI and Chris Johnson had three hits and an RBI. Blake DeWitt had two hits, Tyler Pastornicky had two hits and an RBI. DeWitt hit a double, Upton and Johnson each hit a homerun. The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Kazmar had a stolen base and Pastornicky was caught stealing. DeWitt committed an error and Pagnozzi had a passed ball.

In the first Upton hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. Byrd hit an RBI single in the first to tie the game at one. Byrd hit a sacrifice fly in the third to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and in the fifth the Braves tied it at two. Pastornicky hit an RBI single, Johnson hit a solo homerun in the seventh to give the Braves a 3-2 lead and they completed the scoring with a run in the eighth. Leonard hit an RBI groundout. The Mets record dropped to 2-5 and the Braves are now 5-6. The Mets are off on Tuesday and the Braves will play at the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
