The New York Mets lose a tight one to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by the score of 4-3 on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.  Matt Harvey made the start and pitched well.  Juan Lagares, Michael Cuddyer and John Mayberry Jr. each had two hits. 

Harvey pitched four innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out three.  Noah Syndergaard pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Alvarez pitched to one batter and struck him out and Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Mazzoni pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk. 

Lagares had two hits, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk, Cuddyer had two hits and Mayberry Jr. had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI, Cuddyer and Recker each hit a double and the Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Plawecki had a passed ball. 

In the second Mayberry Jr. had an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Recker hit an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game.  In the third Granderson hit an RBI single to increase the Mets lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Matt spring hit a solo homerun to get the Red Sox on the board and a wild pitch scored a second run to make it 3-2.  In the eighth Blake Tekotte hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  In the ninth a passed ball scored the winning run as the Red Sox won the game 4-3. 

The Mets will take on the Miami Marlins on Tuesday afternoon at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
