The New York Yankees rally to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 4-3 on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well and Andrew Miller got the save.  The Yankees offense stalled again until the eighth inning when they had a big rally which was also helped by the Blue Jays. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up two runs on six hits.  He walked one and struck out six.  Chris Martin pitched a perfect inning, Dellin Betances earned the win pitching an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two walks and Miller pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout to earn his first save of the season.  Betances picked up his first win of the season. 

R.A. Dickey pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Miguel Castro pitched to two batters and retired them both striking out one, Aaron Loup didn't record an out and gave up two hits and three runs and took his first loss of the season and Brett Cecil pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Roberto Osuna pitched to two batters and retired them both, one on a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and drew two walks, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Brian McCann had an RBI and Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI.  Stephen Drew had a hit and Chris Young had a pinch hit.  Teixeira and Young each hit a double and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and was picked off and Drew and McCann each committed an error. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Russell Martin had an RBI and Jose Bautista drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion had two hits, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Dalton Pompey drew a walk.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, Justin Smoak had a hit and Devon Travis had two hits and an RBI.  Smoak hit a double and the Blue Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Dickey had a pickoff. 

In the third Travis had an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.   In the fifth Martin had a sacrifice fly to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.  The Yankees got on the board in the sixth on a Beltran sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth a throwing error by McCann gave the Jays a 3-1 lead.  The Yankees scored three runs in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.  A wild pitch scored a run, McCann was hit by a pitch to score another run and Headley had an RBI single. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of their three game series on Thursday night.  The Yankees lost the first game on Monday 6-1 and CC Sabathia will pitch against Daniel Norris a rookie left hander.
